Squantum residents may hear explosions Monday morning as part of the ongoing demolition of the Long Island Bridge.

Residents in the surrounding areas may hear blasting between 8 a.m. and noon Monday, when charges will be used to cut beams and lower bridge sections into the water to be hauled away, the Patriot Ledger reported.

Explosive charges will be used on three additional days in the coming weeks, though the dates have not been announced.

Boston is overseeing the $20.6 million demolition project on the 3,450-foot-long bridge, which has connected Long Island with Moon Island in Squantum.

Boston officials abruptly closed the bridge last October because of safety concerns.

The move displaced a Boston-run homeless shelter for more than 400 people as well as several programs for about 300 recovering addicts.
