WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) -

On a typical day in the Cunningham house, youll find Luke, Sam, and Hatch dueling their Pokmon trading cards, a hobby that could make two of the boys world champions.

They are fortunate enough to have each other, so they practice different decks with each other, said Ariana Cunningham, the boys' mom

They started playing two years ago. After placing in the national competition earlier this month, 13-year-old Luke and 10-year-old Hatch have qualified to compete in the 2014 Pokmon World Championship next month in Washington D.C.

The boys say there are thousands of Pokmon cards to choose from, and for every duel, each player can choose 60 to use. I usually will play an all basic deck using stuff for support. I want it to be very consistent, said Luke.

Each player draws seven cards from their decks and the duel begins.

Every Pokmon has certain attacks that cost a certain amount of energy, said Hatch

To win the game you can either earn six prize cards or knock out all of your opponent's Pokmon in play.

Each Pokmon has a certain amount of heart points, and once the heart points wear out, that Pokmon faints, Luke said.

Luke says duels can last anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes and he says to make it to this level of play, youve got to do your homework.
