When it came time to decorate for the holidays, the Lompoc Public Library used something it has plenty of books.

The lobby of the library at 501 E. North Ave. boasts a Christmas tree standing more than 6 feet tall and made totally from books with red bows providing additional adornment.

The book tree is topped by a decoration made, of course, from a book with its pages folded to look like an angel.

People who are coming in and seeing it in the lobby are loving it, Library Director Ashlee Chavez said of the book tree.

To see the tree, the library is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Its closed Sundays.

The Lompoc Public Library will be closed Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. On New Years Eve, Dec. 31, the library will close at 5 p.m.

Among upcoming holiday events, the library will host a special holiday storytime at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 in the Grossman Gallery. Kids will get to meet the chief character from Llama Llama Red Pajama and receive a free book with a craft. For more information, call 875-8781.
