After a series of roadblocks, the decks seem to be clearing for the Ilanthaikulam IT Park, a project of the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), to become functional in the next few months.

All the available space in the 50,000 square feet building has been booked. While three companies have already resumed operations, we expect all others to occupy space latest by April 1, said an ELCOT official.

Built over 28 acres, the IT Park, which was inaugurated in February 2011, had initially found only a few takers which IT entrepreneurs attributed to a host of reasons, including the global economic downturn.

Apart from the built up space, the premises also has land where companies can construct their own buildings and operate. The recent occupation of 4.5 acres of land by the renowned Bengaluru- based Honeywell is seen as a positive sign of development for the IT Park.

At present, the second floor of the built up space is empty and ready for occupation while 6,000 square feet in the first floor remains empty as well.

Most companies, who are yet to occupy the park, have signed the lease agreement and have a few approvals and other formalities to complete. There is a definite improvement in the situation now as far as the functioning of the IT Park goes, after the initial lull, said Kathir Kamanathan, Chief Executive Officer of Chella Software. The Madurai-based company too has been allotted land at the IT Park.

Manikandan. A, Project Manager, Sai BPO Services Limited, which is functioning at the Ilanthaikulam IT park since August 2014, said that the facilities at the park were satisfactory.

With adequate car and two-wheeler parking as well as connectivity from the Mattuthavani bus stand through private buses and share autos, we have been functioning smoothly here. There is immense potential to put the space available to use and we are hoping that the other companies will occupy the park soon, he said.
