HIGHTSTOWN Borough police officers arrested one man after they found 847 decks of what they believe to be heroin inside a cab they pulled over early yesterday morning, police said today.

At 12:08 a.m., police stopped a taxi for several motor vehicle violations and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, police said.

In addition to the driver, there were a male and female passenger in the car, police said. Police received permission from the driver to search the vehicle and found the suspected heroin and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine near the male passenger, who has been identified as Lashaun Turner, police said.

Turner was arrested on a number of drug possession charges, tampering with evidence, manufacturing or distributing heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone and possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park and a housing authority.

The driver of the taxi received tickets for the motor vehicle violations and was released, and the female passenger was released with no charges. Hightstown police could not identify them or disclose Turners town of residence.
