TRENTON Surveillance operations conducted by patrol officers working as part of a task force in the Hanover/Academy section Wednesday afternoon led to five arrests and the seizure of nearly 800 decks of heroin, police said.

The officers set up on the first block of Commerce Street after they had developed information that narcotics sales were occurring in the area, according to Sgt. Tim Thomas, a police spokesman.

City resident Tashawn Santiago, a 20-year-old man who has several listed addresses including one on Commerce Street, was arrested by the task force after they allegedly saw him dealing heroin. Santiago was charged with possession with intent to distribute, distribution of heroin, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park.

Police also arrested George Martinez, a 34-year-old city resident, and charged him with possession, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park.

Charged with simple possession were Adelberto Rivera, 45, of Trenton, and 54-year-old city resident Kevin Daniels, while 22-year-old Corey McCoy was charged with obstructing public passage.

Police also seized $1,000 cash during the operation along with 780 decks of heroin, Thomas said.
