CHHAPRA: Decks have been cleared for construction of a thematic park showing rise and fall of different civilizations at Chirand in Saran district.

Atul Verma, director, archaeological wing, department of art, culture and youth affairs, Bihar government, on Saturday said, "Land for this purpose has been acquired and the government has also sanctioned funds for this work." He was addressing a seminar on 'Saran ke Itihaas mein Chirand ka mahatwa' organized under the aegis of Chrand Vikas Parishad. Narrating the story of start of excavation at this place by the then drector V S Verma, he said initially the local people objected to the excavation work but allowed it after they were convinced.

"Without the cooperation of local people such works can't be taken up," said Atul Verma and added this excavation has changed the old concept that civilization existed only in hilly areas not in planes. He said the materials collected from here have proved the existence of Neolithic civilization in Gangetic plains during which bone-made tools were considered important. They are kept at the Patna Museum for exhibition. He said the state government has decided to organize 'Chirand Mahotsava' after a few months but such seminar would be organized every year with the help of Chirand Vikas Parishad. He also commented on the unauthorized construction in the protected area and said, "Such constructions would not only be demolished but those who have allowed it would be taken to task."

Unfair means at Inter exam: More than 40 examinees were expelled from Intermediate examination in Saran district on Saturday. Two invigilators, who were found helping some examinees, were also relieved from invigilation work. Intermediate examinations began at 47 centres at Chhapra for about 70,000 examinees, three centres at Marhoura for about 4,500 examinees and at five centres at Sonepur for about 6,500 examinees on Saturday.
