CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Charlotte Douglas Airport officials plan to have a new hourly parking deck open before Thanksgiving.

The Charlotte Observer reported (http://bit.ly/1tHlC2A ) the $120 million parking deck should help relieve the congestion that has plagued the airport during construction.

It's taken more than a year to build the deck, which has space for 7,000 vehicles. Four thousands of those spots will be available to the public. The other 3,000 slots are for rental cars.

Parking will be free for the first hour, to help people dropping off or picking passengers. After the first hour, parking is $1 per hour, with a maximum of $20 daily.

Airport officials hope the plan will reduce the number of people circling while waiting for passengers or using the two cellphone waiting lots, which are increasingly crowded.
