One sure sign that fall has arrived in Tucson is the return of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association Home & Garden Show, which starts at 10 a.m. today at the Tucson Convention Center downtown.

The TCC has been converted into 350,000 square feet of exhibit space for about 300 vendors to mingle with consumers looking for ideas on home-improvement trends, outdoor living and remodeling ideas.

Home-show organizers are mixing it up this season with a couple of new events, such as hourly culinary showcases presented by Tucson Originals restaurants.

Every hour were gonna feature different local restaurants on the stage and have a chef presentation, said Noel Kurtz, the home-show director. And theyll give a free sample of what they just cooked.

Another new feature is Home Show Happy Hour, where attendees will be able to sample wine and beer from local wineries and breweries, from 4 to 7 p.m. today. There is no additional cost to partake in the tasting.

JoAnn Fabric and Crafts will take the crafting stage for the first time, offering workshops on cake decorating, paper crafting, sewing, knitting and crocheting, as well as presenting kids make it and take it craft sessions.

Home Depot returns to the home show, offering workshops on concrete repair and rapid set, gardening, roof maintenance and home security.

Vendors arent limited to the home-improvement sector, Kurtz said. You can buy tons of stuff in the arts and crafts area. We have wine vendors, jewelry, chocolate, you name it. If you dont have to do anything to your house, you can Christmas-shop here if you want.

Many vendors will offer giveaways and special home-show offers, including the chance to win a custom University of Arizona pool table from Diamond Billiards & Games or a custom set of golf clubs from Superior Golf Products.
