Calgarys homes and communities shone at the annual provincial housing awards, with builders and a developer winning two of the three top Builder of the Year awards, as well as top community.

Reflecting the growth of Calgary and areas luxury home market, Albi Homes was named this years Ralph Scurfield Builder of the Year on Friday at the Canadian Home Builders Association-Albertas annual conference in Jasper.

Albi Homes had three finalists in the homes categories, and Albi Renova won two categories Renovation Under $200,000 for its Ranchlands renovation, and Renovation $200,000-$500,000 for the Rurral renovation.

Homes by Avi won Multi-family Builder of the Year, perhaps a nod to this citys interest in density. Avi Urban, its multi-family division, won Multi-family Apartment under $325,000 for Sawyer Silverado.

Calgary is also home to the community of the year. Hopewell won the Community Development award for Mahogany, a new community in the southeast that encompasses what will be the citys largest lake.

The Builder of the Year for small volume companies was taken home by Ashcroft Master Builder of Lethbridge, which won Single Family $310,000-$340,000 for Griffin.

Builder of the Year awards are presented for the best overall score in the competition.

Points are awarded for being in the top three finalists of each category, as well as how each home placed.

Further points were earned for safety, customer satisfaction survey results and volunteerism.

The builder with the most combined points won its division.
