The white marble countertop is popular for a reason: It's timeless, chic, and bright...but it can also be fairly expensive. Well, one homeowner just did an incredible (and inexpensive!) DIY job of her own marble counters using a paint kitand we're very impressed.

Nasozi Kakembothe founder of home decor and furniture brand xN Studioshared the behind-the-scenes of her fun, yet intense, weekend project: turning her dull, dated countertops into chic, white "marble" ones. With the help of a paint kit from Giani Inc., she gives a step-by-step of her process on her latest Instagram highlights. First, she did two coats of primer before adding simple marble vein accentswith a little dance break in between, of course. Then she let the paint dry for four hours before adding the final epoxy coat.

Marble is versatile and comes in endless varieties, Kakembo wrote in the Instagram highlights. I gravitate toward the brighter whites with pronounced and fewer veins.

She shared that the paint kit she used was under $200. Before she decided to go with the paint kit method of marbling, she got an estimate that was at least $5,000 to get them done professionally. Prior to painting, she had marble contact paper on the counters (see them in her home here), which gave a similar look but were far less durable.

If you want a more permanent marble look void of pesky bubbles, using a paint kit seems like the way to go. It also gives you control of the marble look you're after (Kakembo detailed her decision to paint graceful, light gray veins). Talk about a weekend well spent!
