BALLWIN, Mo. (KMOV) -- A Ballwin woman says her kitchen remodeling was put on hold when she paid for new granite countertops, and the contractor never finished the job.

Julie McLaughlin recently moved to the area from Arizona. She hired a contractor to help install granite countertops in her kitchen, but now says he "wasn't legit."

McLaughlin said she paid Joe Kordic of Planet Granite over $800 to start the project. But Kordic never showed up, according to McLaughlin, and avoided her calls for the next several weeks.

"He was just ignoring me completely," McLaughlin said.

With no answers from Kordic, she headed to his showroom in Gravois. After finding it closed, and no sign of Kordic, McLaughlin decided to hire another company to do the job.

When Ballwin police told her it was a civil matter, McLaughlin contacted News 4's Mike Colombo.

Kordic's brother-in-law runs Five Star Granite in St. Peters. Kordic reportedly told detectives Planet Granite and Five Star merged, but his brother-in-law denied any affiliation.
