MIRI: The state government has presented a RM100,000 grant for the construction of the Holy Trinity Church in Lambir.

Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat presented the grant on behalf of Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem to building committee chairman Pemanca Wilson Siang Lim recently.

We would like to thank the state government through the chief minister for the allocation. Such a contribution is needed for us to finance the new church construction at an estimated cost of RM1.5 million, said Wilson.

In addition, he said the building committee has also received minor rural project (MRP) grants from Assistant Minister in the Chief Ministers Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, Sibuti member of parliament Ahmad Lai Bujang and Ripin.

We are indeed touched with the support shown by the Muslim YBs which clearly showed that religious tolerance has been well practised by the multiracial people in the state, he said.

Wilson added that the church building fund is still short of RM800,000.

We are going to organise a second fundraising dinner for the church on Nov 28 at Mega Hotel. Here, I would like to thank the generous supporters, he said.

Meanwhile, six mosques and six schools here also received MRP grants totalling RM158,000 from Ripin. They were An Naim Lutong Mosque, Darul Ehsan Mosque in Piasau, At-Taqwa Mosque, Darul Istiqamah Mosque in Kampung Luak, Ar Rayyan Mosque in Permyjaya, Jamek Mosque in Miri, SJK Tukau, Sekolah Agama Rakyat Miri, SM Sains, SK Lambir Village, SK Kelapa Sawit No. 2 and SK Ulu Satap. Ripin also presented MRP grants from the state government to clubs, associations and churches.
