Ceremonial shovels hit the ground as work begins on phase two of the project.

Harvest Time, a Greenwich-based Assembly of God Church, officially inaugurated the beginning of construction on a new sanctuary with a recent special outdoor Dig In service.

The new structure will adjoin and triple the size of its existing facility at 1338 King Street and includes a central meeting area of 1,000 seats, larger than any other in the town.

The event, held under a large tent on the main grounds of the church, united all church services and its Stamford satellite congregation in a single celebratory occasion. Attendees included distinguished contributors throughout the churchs history and for the upcoming phase two project: the founding pastors, Ray and Patti Tate; the church presbyters, Pastor Don and June Evans; Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei; Richard Hayden, the architect of the new building; Tom Heagney, the churchs attorney; and Tim Holmes, the construction manager.

Pastor Glenn Harvison, senior pastor of Harvest Time, said, Our building project is about much more than a new building its about spiritual healing and growth in Greenwich and the surrounding New York metropolitan area. We have been blessed by a diverse and rapidly growing congregation and hope our stunning new sanctuary will serve as a beacon, proclaiming Jesus to people who are hurting or questioning the emptiness they feel in their lives.

Mr. Harvison noted that the church will be preparing for heavy excavation during the next three weeks, with digging scheduled to begin in mid-October prior to the upcoming winter. The 35,000-square-foot addition is scheduled for completion in 2017. It will include new classrooms to support childrens, teens and adult ministries as well as a fellowship mall with a bookstore, caf and seating area.
