MANILA The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) has started the rehabilitation of the comfort rooms in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).

In a statement, the transportation department said the toilet rehabilitation project started on February 26 and will continue until September.

The project covers all 63 comfort rooms in all 13 MRT-3 stations. It involves tile replacement, installation of new fixtures, ceiling improvements, repainting, electrical and mechanical upgrades, and plumbing and declogging works in the comfort rooms.

The DOTC will first work on the comfort room for men and persons with disabilities (PWDs). This will take about four months.

Rehabilitation of the comfort rooms for women shall then take another 3 months.

DOTC spokesman Atty. Miguel Sagcal said the project is a response to the call of commuters for better comfort and convenience.

One of the basic necessities of an MRT-3 rider are functioning and decent comfort rooms. Alongside our improvement projects for train operations is this toilet rehabilitation project, which responds to the call of our commuters for better passenger comfort and convenience, he said.
