Companies are finding that they need to stay competitive from the ground up. This includes their network infrastructure and the voice and data cabling systems that are the foundation of their business telecommunications. This is one of the reasons that Houston Network Cabling and Fiber Optic is expanding its fleet of technicians and offerings to include specialty fiber optic services including, fusion splicing, OTDR testing, trenching, boring, and aerial fiber installations, as well as offering cutting edge design and installation of data and voice network cabling.
Houston Network Cabling's highly trained staff has been in the forefront of telecommunications service providers in Texas, offering cat5, cat5e, cat6, data/voice installations for the last 20 years. They report an increase in the need for wireless network installations, IP camera systems, and VOIP phone systems in the recent years. With the addition of all these high tech systems in the work place its no wonder that companies need to reevaluate their systems and rewire their networks that drive these components. They are also seeing an industry trend to implement the mobile devices like phones and tablets for things like wireless inventory control, to replace a wired POS system with tablets, or to remotely view and monitor a facility with a CCTV system and a smartphone. The move to wireless equipment also means that an office or facility needs to be evaluated to certify the coverage is complete and that data cables need to run to mount the wireless access points, antennas, and repeaters.
The telecom industry is evolving and expanding quickly. Houston Network Cabling believes in delivering quality expertise at reasonable rates and establishing a relationship with your cabling contractor. A good contractor can assist you in the design and cable installation for your unique network design based on what your current and future needs are. They can implement a fiber backbone to deliver higher speeds to more people, or install dual or quad drops of data for a future switch to a voice over IP phone system. Every office location or facility is different in its construction, layout and use. So it is beneficial to schedule a site survey with an installer, take precise measurements, and review what equipment will be provided or is needed. This kind of foresight can really save money as a company evolves since messy wiring, inexperienced installation, and troubleshooting can by costly and time consuming.

Cosmonauts completed a six-hour, eight minute spacewalk on Monday, finally getting the two Urthecast cameras installed outside of the International Space Station (ISS).
Expedition 38 Commander Oleg Kotov and Flight Engineer Sergey Ryazanskiy began their spacewalk this morning at 8:10 a.m. and finished at 3:08 p.m. eastern. The two men set out to finally complete tasks started on a December 27 spacewalk.
Kotov and Ryazanskiy installed a pair of high fidelity cameras, as well as retrieved scientific gear outside the stations Russian segment. The cameras are part of Urthecasts project to produce a live Ultra HD video feed of Earth in full color. The cameras were first shipped to the space station back in November aboard the Progress 53P cargo ship.
At the end of December Kotov and Ryazanskiy attempted to install the cameras, but the cosmonauts experienced problems with the wiring that delayed the initial installation. However, Urthecast said it found out afterwards that the problem was due to a cabling issue inside the ISS. After resolving the issue, the cosmonauts had to wait for another window of opportunity before attempting to install the cameras again.
With the ISS cabling issue now resolved, we expect that the second spacewalk will result in a complete installation, UrtheCasts Chief Executive Officer, Scott Larson, said earlier this month in a statement. We are again thankful for the hard work of the engineering teams at Roscomos, Energia, and UrtheCast, which were able to quickly isolate and resolve the issue. Were now confident that our business plan will remain unaffected.
The installation is part of a commercial agreement between Urthecast and the Russian Federal Space Agency to provide a live stream of Earth to Internet-based subscribers.Organizations will be able to rent out the video feed for research and other projects that might need to view the Ultra HD video stream.
NASA said the spacewalkers installed the high resolution camera and a medium resolution camera, but experienced telemetry issues with the medium camera. Neither Urthecast nor NASA have provided any more details about the telemetry issues.

Upgrading your car stereo's receiver is the one of the easiest ways to boost your dashboard tech. Here are the seven features we look for when making recommendations.
The Pioneer AppRadio series are among of the most fully-featured app mirroring receivers on the market.
When most people think about a "car stereo," they're actually thinking about the receiver. Also known as the head unit or deck, the receiver is both the brain and heart of your car audio system and the bit that you'll directly interact with from behind the wheel. When you choose a receiver, you're also locking in your available audio sources, features, and the expandability of the rest of your car audio system.
So what should you look for when choosing for a new receiver? Here are the 7 attributes that we consider when recommending a car stereo, along with a few of our top picks to get you started on your search.
The most important bits that you should look for are the audio sources that you most often use.
Do you need a CD player? Will you be using your receiver for DVD playback when parked? Have you ditched discs in favor of digital media? Depending on your answer, you'll have to decide whether to go with a traditional CD-receiver with a slot for your discs, a larger A/V receiver with a color screen, or a mechless receiver that ditches the drive and all of the moving parts that come with it.
Even if you still keep a book of CDs in your car's glove box, odds are good that you or a passenger will want to plug a phone or media player up to your car at some point, so make sure that your new receiver at the very least includes a USB port for MP3, AAC, or WMA playback from flash storage devices and a 3.5mm analog auxiliary input for universal connectivity.
The early adopters' choice: Parrot Asteroid Completely ditching its optical drive in favor of non-physical, the Parrot Asteroid is one of the most forward looking receivers that we've tested. Though its sometimes-buggy reliance on USB-stored, Bluetooth-streamed, and Web-connected media will appeal mainly to early adopters and tinkerers, this diminutive deck shows much promise thanks to its large (for a single-DIN) color display and Asteroid Market of Android-based applications for navigation and audio streaming.
You're a CNET reader, which means the odds are good there's smartphone in your pocket that you'll want your new car stereo to play nice with. Be sure to check out CNET's guides to using your Android phone or connecting your iOS device to the car for details. The broad advice is to look for the "Made with iPhone" badge to ensure that the USB port on your new stereo supports full speed access to your iDevice's media. Users of the iPhone 5S, 5C, or any of the iPads that use the new Lightning connector will also want to make sure the receiver uses a plain-vanilla USB port and not an older 30-pin connector.
Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry users have no badges to look for. Either pick a receiver that uses A2DP stereo Bluetooth audio streaming for wireless media playback or make use of the aforementioned auxiliary input for the simplest connection.

Smart Vision Lightsa leader in the design and manufacture of LED lights with internal current-control drivers for precision industrial, machine vision, and architectural applicationsis pleased to introduce the LHF series of LED linear lights for the direct replacement of fluorescent lights.
Like all Smart Vision Lights, the LHF series of fluorescent replacement lights comes with the industrys only internal driver capable of both continuous and strobed operation. The LHF series can use either NPN or PNP strobe triggers to control light pulse timing. Internal LED drivers also eliminate the need for additional wiring between the light and external drivers, simplifying installation. Furthermore, the LHF series is based on Smart Vision Lights Direct-Connect series of linear lights, which allows the user to snap together up to eight 300mm LHF300 lights for a consistent illumination source up to 2.4 meters long without any additional wiring. A T-slot built into every Direct-Connect LED light housing makes it easy to install and support our LED lights for virtually any application.
Each 24V DC LHF300 array utilizes 30 high-intensity LEDs, and features a diffuse lens cover designed to disperse the light in the same fashion as a fluorescent light of equivalent length.
The LHF series of linear lights is the brightest in the vision industry due to the heat dissipation of the housing, resulting in more consistent light output over a longer lifetime than competing solutions. To dissipate heat, Smart Vision Lights directly mounts high-current LEDs to an aluminum circuit board connected to an aluminum housing. This design efficiently transfers heat away from the high-powered LEDs, allowing users to run the light at a higher current, producing an increased output without reducing expected lifetime. In constant operation, the housing on Smart Vision Lights LHF series lights will run at 50C in an ambient temperature of 25C, overcoming ambient temperature limitations common to standard fluorescent lights. The LHF series of fluorescent replacements also eliminates mercury waste from fluorescent ballasts as well as fluorescent ballast buzz.
For more information on the LHF series of fluorescent replacements or Smart Vision Lights other industrial and machine vision LED light products, visit http://www.SmartVisionLights.com or contact Bobby Segraves at (231) 722-1199 or Bobby(at)SmartVisionLights(dot)com.

Electrical wiring can be as simple as following these tips. Connecting cords, circuit connections, device connections, and electrical panel connections all require some type of wiring connection. This tutorial is loaded with electrical wiring tips to make the job simple and easy to accomplish.
Every appliance, whether it be a counter top appliance like a coffee pot or a major appliance like an electric range, has an electrical connection. Each has a specific outlet and certain breaker size that they are needed to be connected to. These connections are easy enough if you can follow these simple instructions.
There are good electrical connections and some that should never be made. Although manufacturers sometimes give you the choice of a couple of different connection points, like with switches and outlets, a closer look will reveal which connection should be your choice. Keep these connection tips in mind the next time you perform your next electrical wiring project.
Making the proper connections to the electrical service components will help keep the electricity flowing trouble-free. Before trying to wire an electric meter, disconnect, electrical panel, or sub-panel, be sure you know where to place the wires on each. Here's a look at just a few that will help you keep your wiring projects safe and functional for years to come.
Electrical devices must be wired right to make electrical connections safe and secure. Some appliances need only 120-volt outlets, but others need 240-volt outlets. Just connecting wires to device terminals isn't enough. You need to know the proper way to strip, bend and tighten connections so they will provide you with a safe and functional connection for years to come.
Before you can make electrical connections, you must first know what type wire to use for the installation, what color wire is needed for the application, and what is the proper size wire to handle the load of the circuit. For electricians, wire colors mean everything. They identify whether the wire is a hot, neutral, or a ground wire.
Having the right sized wire to handle the ampacity flowing through it is just as important. The size of wire also varies, depending on which type of wire you are installing. By following these steps, you'll be installing electrical circuits the right way and have a safer home because of it.

Los Angeles city building inspectors launched an investigation Thursday into whether county Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has an illegally converted garage at his Leimert Park home, where government employees recently performed thousands of dollars worth of work.
The Los Angeles Building and Safety Department opened the probe less than a day after The Times reported that county crews installed a security system, drywall, an air conditioner and other appliances in Ridley-Thomas' detached garage.
A search of city databases found no permits for that work or any other improvements to the garage. A source familiar with the property said the garage was being used as an office, complete with a restroom, and appeared to have been converted before the most recent work was done.
The city Building and Safety Department placed a notice of the investigation on its website.
"If anybody calls and complains about a politician or anybody, we'll go out and investigate," department spokesman Luke Zamperini said.
Generally, permits must be obtained for the installation of restrooms, air conditioners, electrical wiring and drywall, he said. Violators of the city's permit rules could be ordered to pay fines and correct any improper work, the department website says.
Ridley-Thomas and his spokeswoman did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
The source with knowledge of the work at the supervisor's garage, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to talk, said county crews replaced older wood paneling with the drywall and, in addition to the air conditioner, installed a flat-screen television, a refrigerator and electric wiring.
The work was done as part of a project to add a security system to the garage.
The county released documents Thursday to The Times that say the "security enhancements" cost $10,038. The source said he was informed that Ridley-Thomas paid for the air conditioner, TV and refrigerator, but it was unclear whether he reimbursed the county for any other costs.

When installing underground electrical wire, it is important to use the correct cable for the task. Underground feed (UF) cable is specifically designed to be buried in the ground. The cables conductors are enclosed in solid thermoplastic insulation that is both sunlight- and moisture-resistant. UF cable is more economical to install because there is no need to enclose it inside conduit.
Check with your local municipality for the direct burial regulations prior to installing your underground electrical wire. Depending on your locale regulations, direct burial wire has to be placed 18 to 24 inches underground.
Dig your trench to install your underground electrical wire. Use a trenching shovel to dig your trench to the depth that your municipality requires.
Lay your underground electrical cable into the trench that you dug in Step 2. Underground feed electrical wire is specially designed to be buried underground without the need for conduit.
Cover the underground electrical wire with the dirt you removed from the trench in Step 2.
Underground electrical wire may be essential if you plan to put in outdoor lighting or some other outdoor circuitry. An outdoor electrical...
