Pascack Valley Regional Board authorizes building repairs - January 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Pascack Valley Regional High School Board of Education passed a resolution on Jan. 27 calling for $3.29 million in repair work to the district.

This summer, the Pascack Valley Regional High School District will begin a window replacement project at both the Pascack Valley and Pascack Hills high schools with energy efficient ones. The windows at both schools date back to the 1950s up to the 1970s, Superintendent Erik Gundersen said. The HVAC controls at Pascack Hills High School will also be upgraded, as the system is "significantly outdated," Gundersen said.

The board will pay $2.38 million for the work, while a total of $913,442, or 40 percent, will come from a Regular Operating Districts (ROD) grant from the state, officials said.

The district will also fund a $1 million renovation project to the girls' locker room at Pascack Valley High School, which it has budgeted for in its spending plan. The locker room, which will be renovated this summer, will contain a new configuration of lockers, restroom and shower facilities.

Disabled mum hurt by brick thrown through window - January 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Published: 27 Jan 2014 13:00

A DISABLED mum was left bleeding when a brick crashed through her window and insult was added to injury when she had to wait 10 WEEKS for it to be replaced.

ANGER: Andrew Mitchell and Jacqueline Crawford.

Jacqueline Crawford, 42, was rushed to hospital after a thug smashed the glass at her Larkfield flat in November.

Her three-inch head wound has since healed but her living room window was still boarded up when she spoke to the Tele on Wednesday.

Landlords River Clyde Homes (RCH), who finally fixed the window the following day, have apologised for the lengthy delay.

Ms Crawford, who has epilepsy, recalled the frightening window smash incident to the Tele.

She said: I was sitting watching the news at about 6.15pm and my dog Casper started barking.

I told her to stop it as there was no one there, and then a brick came through the window.

I got a split head and a cut to my leg and had to go to hospital.

January transfer window: Premier League club-by-club guide to the final week - January 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Aston Villa

John Percy: Paul Lambert's capture of Grant Holt finally added sorely needed experience to the squad while Ryan Bertrand's arrival on loan will hopefully be third time lucky in his hunt for a left-back. Lambert still wants a creative midfielder, but his move for Norwich's Wes Hoolahan appears doomed due to the bad blood that exists between the two clubs. Shifting Alan Hutton off the wage bill is a priority.

    Panic rating: 4/10

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Cardiff City

Graham Clutton: As soon as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived in south Wales, he dipped into the transfer market to sign the highly rated Norwegian trio of Mats Moller Dahli, Jo Inge Berget and Magnus Wolff Eikrem. Now Solskjaer has gone in once again with Wilfried Zaha, Fabio and Kenwyne Jones on their way too. Smacks of panic signings some might say but the trio will bring quality and ambition too. The task now is to piece a new look side together and to pick up the necessary points in february that will keep last season's Championship winners in with a chance pf avoiding the drop.

    Panic rating: 7/10

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Chelsea

Matt Law: Chelsea have already been one of the busiest clubs this month and still have plenty of money in the bank from the 37 million sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United. The departures of Mata and Kevin De Bruyne have been offset by the arrivals of winger Mohamed Salah from FC Basel and central midfielder Nemanja Matic. A new striker may have to wait until the summer, but Chelsea could yet get drawn into a bidding war with United this week over Southampton's exciting young left-back Luke Shaw.

Bill to remove Speaker Naize heads to council - January 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Window Rock The Naa'bik'yti' Committee tabled legislation calling for the removal of Navajo Nation Council Speaker Johnny Naize.

The bill was proposed after Naize was charged with 10 counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy by the tribe's special prosecutor on Dec. 3.

Delegate Dwight Witherspoon motioned to table the measure, which was seconded by Delegate Jonathan Hale, and the committee voted 10 in favor and seven opposed during Thursday's committee meeting in the council chamber in Window Rock.

Naize recused himself as the chairperson and then left.

Acting chief legislative counsel Mariana Kahn read the provision in tribal law which provides that when the chairperson is absent then members shall nominate and elect a pro tem chairperson.

After taking nominations, the committee elected Delegate Mel Begay.

While addressing the committee, Delegate Alton Joe Shepherd, who is sponsoring the bill, reiterated that Navajo law mandates the speaker be a member of the council, serves at the pleasure of the council, and shall be in good standing.

Naize was elected to serve his first term as speaker in January 2011, he was reelected last January.

"We selected him because he was in good standing, as I mentioned, as a member of this council and we choose him to be our first of equals to lead us forward in confidence," Shepherd said.

He said that he spoke to several delegates who took the position that Naize should step down. Naize has issued a statement saying he will not step down and that he did nothing wrong.
