Finally, heres a few quick hacks for Yosemites Dark mode. The first is from former Macworld contributor Rob Griffiths. Yosemite overhauled the Dock with a new flatter translucent design, removing the ages-old ability to switch the Dock to black 2D look. If you want something similar to that in Yosemite, open a Terminal window (youll find it in the Utilities folder of the Applications list) and paste in the following as a single line, then hit enter:

defaults write -g AppleInterfaceStyle Dark;killall Dock;sleep 3;defaults remove -g AppleInterfaceStyle

Sadly, this only lasts until you next reboot, when youll have to repeat the procedure! To restore the dock to normal at any time, just type killall Dock into a Terminal window.

To be able to activate Dark mode instantly, try this hack. Again open a Terminal window and paste in the following, which should be entered as a single line:

defaults write -g _HIEnableThemeSwitchHotKey 1

Then log out via the Apple menu, and log back in again. Once you do so youll be able to switch instantly to/from Dark mode by tapping Ctrl+Alt+Cmd+T (Ctrl+Option+Cmd+T on some keyboards).

To deactivate the keyboard shortcut, again open a Terminal window and paste-in the following before logging out and back in again:

defaults delete -g _HIEnableThemeSwitchHotKey

FIFA say Barcelona will not get special permission to sign a defender after Thomas Vermaelen was sidelined by injury for several months.

Barcelona sought an emergency signing under 'exceptional situations' in Spanish federation rules, despite facing a one-year FIFA transfer embargo.

FIFA told Barcelona on Monday that its disciplinary committee did not 'conceive an exception' for signing players 'outside the official periods of registration.'

Thomas Vermaelen underwent surgery on a hamstring injury that will keep him out for several more months

The defender (left) is yet to make a single appearance for Barcelona since his summer move

The Belgium international joined the Catalan club from Arsenal for 15million

FIFA's ban was imposed because Barcelona broke rules on international signings of young players. It takes effect in January, pending an appeal verdict this month from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold has already begun looking for two foreign players to join the club in the January transfer window as injury replacement players for Ali Abbas and Corey Gameiro.

After losing their first game of the season in a 2-1 defeat to league leaders Perth Glory, Arnold admits his squad is no longer "balanced" as a result of the long-term injuries to the two first team players.Fairfax Media understands Arnold is looking to sign a foreign attacking midfielder, a number 10, which could lead to a slight alteration in the current playing system.Sydney's coach lamented a loss of pace and a lack of left-sided players as a result of the season-ending injuries for the Gameiro and Abbas and has began scouring overseas for two players to join the club next month.
