Replacement Window Reviews – The Window Dog – Find the … - December 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

While were getting started around here well be posting in depth window reviews on a wide range of replacement windows. Well be covering a range of manufacturers and well focus on concrete quantitative information rather than more qualitative fluff youll find on most sites.

Well also provide feedback on marketing and sales strategies used by some of these companies where we think it will be useful information.

It will probably take a little time to get to all of the window reviews, but here are the products well be focusing on first in no particular order:

Many of these manufacturers offer several models so well try to get to as many of them as we can. We hope youll find this info to be useful and please do let us know if there are any other models youd like to see reviewed.

If you think we missed anything or didnt give a particular product a fair shake just post a comment, be sure to mention the specific window reviews youre concerned with and well respond asap.

As youre sorting through all of this its also important to remember that selecting great windows is only half the battle. Finding a reputable installation company is just as important to the overall success of the project. For some inside info on that front see our post on Angies List From a Contractors Perspective.

Show us some love, share this with your pals!

Carey sets temp 2015 budget - December 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CAREY - Appropriations for the village of Carey will be up 14 percent for 2015 thanks in large part to projects the village is undertaking from the electrical replacement/expansion to the culvert project.

The total is tabbed for $19,811,484.10, which included a General Fund budget of $1,772,63341, an increase of 7 percent. Administrator Roy Johnson said $7 million is to be covered by grants and assistance for larger projects.

Appropriations include the potential for raises for village personnel. In a move approved earlier this year, department heads are to complete employee evaluations by the end of February and employees could see increases based on the results of those evaluations.

Also budgeted is $8,000 for contracting Richard Grafmiller and Kathy Collins as prosecutors for any case in municipal court. Any case that's not a felony from the village comes through the municipal court. A discussion of a raise was presented, but it was suggested a record of how many hours the prosecutors were tallying for the village's cases to find out if an increase is warranted.

One large project, a solar field, is expected to go live by the end of the year.

The village is awaiting for its Christmas/winter decorations to arrive and they are past due. The village agreed that while they are winter-themed instead of just specifically Christmas, if they arrive after Christmas, they will wait until next year to utilize them. The village received donations totaling $2,845 from 23 donors, which covered about half the cost of the decorations.

The village offices are to close at noon Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas day and New Year's Day.

In anticipation of an increase recyclable goods, the village is going to have the self-serve recycle containers at the Senior Depot Friday and Saturday, Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2-3. Johnson reminded residents that wrapping paper is not accepted at the recycle centers.

As for leftover Christmas trees, residents can take them to the yard waste drop-off at the north end of town or have them on the curb by 8 a.m. Jan. 10 and the fire department is to collect them.

Reservations for pavilion rentals for 2015 are to begin Jan. 2.

'Senseless' vandalism angers retailer - December 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gifts on Grove co-owner Xue Mei is not impressed that a smashed window is the reason for this temporary art work at the front of her store.

A Blenheim retailer has described the smashing of a display window at his store as "senseless vandalism".

Gifts on Grove co-owner Roland van Asch was contacted by Blenheim Police about 8am on Sunday after the incident was reported by staff at neighbouring Coupland's Bakeries.

No alarms went off inside the store because nobody entered the premises, van Asch said.

Nothing was stolen but some items were damaged by falling glass.

"We found glass about three or four metres inside the shop and great shards of it hanging down," he said.

His wife Xue Mei said the window was struck with force in the bottom left corner, causing the single sheet of security glass to shatter. There was no sign of any weapon.

Fibreboard sheets cover the window space. Replacement glass will have to come from Christchurch and Mei hopes it will arrive this week.

Van Asch has installed extra lighting in this corner of the store, and employee, Jamie Sun, has painted a Christmas tree and a festive greeting on the fibreboard.

Stoke City Extra Time: Has the time come for Stoke to cash in on Peter Crouch? - December 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Peter Crouch celebrates his goal at Crystal Palace.

IF theres a new transfer window on the horizon then there must be a Peter Crouch transfer story following close behind.

Its in the rules, we all know that, and the first stories to surface have him linked to both QPR and Crystal Palace.

Nothing particularly new in those links given Harry Redknapp is still at Loftus Road and Tony Pulis was recently at Selhurst Park.

The question is: Will Stoke sell in January?

With six months left on his contract it makes financial sense to pocket what could be a couple of million.

But a couple of million is a drop in the ocean these days, and the loss of Crouch midway through a season, one that could still go either way, would be a massively brave step.

Surely, given the playing resources at his disposal, Mark Hughes could only begin to consider selling Crouch if he had a replacement lined up this January.

And a replacement that would bring height, strength and some kind of goal pedigree to his forward line.

Keeping Crouch for the second half of the season would also allow Stoke to keep their options open on whether they want to eventually offer a new deal to a player celebrating his 34th birthday on January 30.

West Ham United January transfer news and rumours - December 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Transfer window history: West Ham fans will pray there are no repeats of the bizarre January loan signing of central defender Roger Johnson from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Co-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold are not big fans of the January sales.

Budget: 5m. West Ham did superb business in the summer transfer window and wont be looking make major January moves. The club may, however, need a replacement for central defender Winston Reid.

Dream signing: Winston Reid. West Ham are desperate to tie the Kiwi down to a new contract, but have so far been able to negotiate an agreement. Allardyce may have to sell him in January, rather than risk losing him for free. Arsenal and Everton are interested.

Probable signing: Nicolas NKoulou. West Ham have been watching the Marseille defender in case Reid leaves in January. The 24-year-old Cameroon international would cost around 5m.
