Big-hearted cleaning firm hit the streets in bid to sanitise Ayr town centre during lockdown – Daily Record - March 31, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

A big-hearted cleaning firm are sanitising the streets of Ayr for free.

Flamingo Exterior Cleaning have been voluntarily blasting high-risk areas around the town centre to kill off the coronavirus.

The team have been tackling spaces used by the public including Ayr Hospital, the High Street and care homes.

Robin Barclay, who runs the business with Malcolm Bennett, says the decision to hit the streets was an easy one.

Robin told Ayrshire Live: It has always been important for us to be as involved in the community as possible, supporting events and local initiatives.

As the current crisis unfolded we felt it was a natural step, for a company that offers professional sanitisation already, to help where possible by sanitising the most vulnerable areas and areas of high human interaction such as handrails, crosswalks, doors, handles, bins etc.

We touch these things much more often than we probably imagine.

Flamingo Exterior Cleaning are based at Mosshill Industrial Estate in Ayr.

The bulk of their work usually involves window cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and graffiti removal.

But since the coronavirus outbreak, the company has seen a spike in the amount of residents who would like their wheelie bins given a deep clean.

And after dark the specialist team have been hitting the town in a bid to save lives.

Robin said: We have dedicated time for three vans to provide free cleaning and have sanitised exterior areas throughout Ayrshire.

So far this has included Ayr Hospital, the High Street, Sandgate, Boat Vennel and many others.

Most of this work is carried out between 7pm and midnight as it is quieter and safer to carry out the work.

Robin says their work has been well received by the public.

And the 30-year-old insists they are doing it all for the good of the community.

Robin added: The sanitisation of these areas is strictly non profit it is about humanity and our duty to care for our community.

We have had an amazing response from members of the public, professional bodies and other businesses.

We have to thank other local businesses and the wider community for the tremendous work.

We feel extremely proud of the community spirit and everyone's dedication to fighting the virus.

Cleaners must be considered as ‘critical workers’ says BCC – ThisWeekinFM - March 31, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Government published a list of key workers on Friday 20 March 2020 whose children will continue to be cared for at school amid thecoronaviruspandemic but the British Cleaning Council raisesconcernsthat cleaners are not included.

The Government has requested that all schools provide optional care for a limited number of children, which includes critical and key workers, stating on Gov.UK:

If your work is critical to the COVID-19 response, or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and you cannot keep your child safe at home then your children will be prioritised for education provision:

If workers think they fall within the critical categories above, they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

    Gov.UK website

There is further information on whichjobs are included detailed under each category, but cleaners are notably absent in the initial version. This means that parents working in the cleaning sectorare not eligible to apply for childcare provision from schools which jeopardises their ability to work under the social distancing protocol.

The British Cleaning Council (BCC) has responded to this omission with the following appeal:

AS we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together as an industry, it is my duty to keep you informed about how the British Cleaning Council (BCC) is campaigning to ensure that people within our industry are viewed as essential critical or key workers who are needed more than ever to ensure we not only maintain but elevate hygiene standards in the UK in order to come out of this crisis quicker.

The BCC and its members have the staff, products, equipment and machinery to reduce the risk to human health by providing & maintaining clean, sanitised and safe premises and environments. Our regular day to day cleaning staff and our specialist and periodical industrial and window cleaning staff all have a major part in improving the environmental hygiene of the UK.

Even in lockdown, premises and particularly education, retail, healthcare establishments and care homes will require more frequent sanitisation regimes at what may well be a premium time to do so. Our cleaning staff throughout the UK have the expertise, training and knowledge to carry out sanitisation, hygiene, clinical or decontamination cleans so it is essential that the workforce are kept available by being identified ascritical or key workersby the Prime Minister and the British Government. Additionally, our cleaning product suppliers need to remain at work to provide the consumables and products to clean with, from wipes and paper products, to disinfectants, sanitisers and cleaning products in general. And our machinery and equipment providers need to produce and supply specialist cleaning equipment that our staff can use.

The cleaning industry represents nearly 4% of the UK workforce and if we do not identify our people ascritical or key workersthen hygiene in the UK will drop with the effect that the virus may flourish.

Support the BCC and all its members and keep our people at work maintaining the hygiene of the country and providing vital sanitisation services.

On behalf of the BCC, may I thank you for your support in these difficult times as with your support our staff can carry on with their invaluable work in order that together we can defeat this awful disease.

City of Edmonton issues notice after window washer falls while working on Stantec Tower – Global News - January 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

The City of Edmonton has issued a notice to the company involved in a scary incident outside Edmontons Stantec Tower in October.

Two window washers were working on a swing stage on the outside the tower when the equipment began twisting in the wind.

The equipment smashed into the tower several times, breaking multiple windows.

One of the workers was thrown over the rail and left dangling by his safety harness five storeys above the ground.

It was later determined the City of Edmonton did not issue a business licence to Aurum Window Cleaning, the company involved.

That prompted the City of Edmonton and Occupational Health and Safety to launch separate investigations into the incident.

    Story continues below advertisement

The municipal investigation has wrapped up, with the city issuing a notice to Aurum.

According to a spokesperson, when they received this, they applied for a business licence, which is currently pending while we wait for further documents.

That notice did not include a fine or penalty against the company, though the spokesperson said one could be levied if the company does not provide the required paperwork.

This is all very, deeply troubling to me, said Alberta Federation of Labour President Gil McGowan.

We have a business that has violated the rules at both a municipal and provincial level. So I would expect investigations from both the city and the province and, frankly, I would expect at least fines, if not something more serious.

The company could have faced a municipal fine of up to $500.

McGowan believes Aurum should not be granted a business licence.

It sends a message to other employers that they can be fast and loose with the rules and they can get away with it.

On Wednesday, after months of trying to get a hold of Aurum, Global News was able to contact the companys CEO.

    Story continues below advertisement

He said everything has been resolved and claimed the business does have a licence in Edmonton but that it is listed under a numbered company. He did not provide further details.

The provincial Occupational Health and Safety investigation is ongoing.

In an emailed statement a spokesperson said, Occupational Health and Safety continues to investigate the window washer incident and cannot discuss details of active investigations.

OHS has two years to complete its investigation. McGowan says he hopes it results in penalties.

Through their negligence, this is a company that put the lives of its employees at risk, but they also put the lives of the public at risk.

The employee left dangling has returned to work.

Transboundary Commercial Robot, CES coayu Released the First Commercial Sweeping Robot – Business Wire - January 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On January 7 local time, the annual international Consumer Electronics Show (CES) opened in Las Vegas. As the largest consumer technology industry event in the world, CES attracts thousands of manufacturers from all over the world to participate every year, becoming an important platform for the release of new products such as mobile digital products, automobiles and smart homes.

This years CES was worth seeing. In addition to 5G technology, driverless, blockchain and other hot trends, as an old player of CES, BONA robot launched its own brand coayu, and launched the world's first commercial sweeping robot BLNE01, focusing on the eyes of many on-site technology giants and media people.

It is understood that the new commercial sweeping robot BLNE01 is equipped with the world's first x-matching global navigation system . It can be applied to complex and diverse indoor business environment, such as strong and weak light, strong and weak texture, etc., with a mapping accuracy of 99.9%, In terms of duration endurance, the commercial sweeping robot has a built-in large capacity battery, which can complete the cleaning coverage of 1000 once charged, meeting the cleaning requirements of most commercial spaces.

Compared with the ordinary household sweeping robot's dust box of 400-500 ml, the capacity of the commercial sweeping robot's dust box has increased by more than 12 times, and the 6L super large capacity dust box is extremely rare in the sweeping robot, which is more than enough to deal with the garbage in the commercial place. More intelligently, the user can reserve the robot cleaning time independently according to the site characteristics and cleaning needs. In addition, it also has the functions of low-power automatic recharge and breakpoint continuous cleaning, improving overall user experience.

Liu Tong, deputy general manager of BONA, said that most of the commercial cleaning robots on the market are bulky and cumbersome heavy equipment, which requires a lot of manpower for maintenance. The commercial cleaning industry is also facing problems such as rising labor costs. For example, the annual salary of cleaning personnel is about 60 thousand dollars per person. The operating costs have increased year by year, and the profit space of enterprises has been further compressed.

The advantages of coayu commercial sweeping robot are: first, its weight is lighter, small and light, it can be lifted easily by hand, and its simple design style enables it to be naturally fit into various business environment; second, it supports wireless remote control and mobile app control, no need for artificial intervention, it can realize intelligent cleaning, and reduce a lot of manpower for the enterprise cost. Third, higher cost performance. Compared with the high cost of manpower, the price of coayu commercial sweeping robot will greatly reduce the burden of the enterprise and save a lot of operating costs.

Different from the home scene, the complexity of the space structure and environment of the commercial scene makes its technical threshold much higher than the home sweeping robot. How to keep efficient cleaning in the commercial space, and ensure superior user experience, has been a major difficulty of the coayu commercial sweeping robot. For this reason, coayu has investigated thousands of business places and potential users, repeatedly verified the machines with the survey data, and gained a more comprehensive understanding of the commercial space.

At the same time, coayu commercial sweeping robot optimizes the cleaning system, achieves a new level of the industry in terms of actual suction, up to 30 times of ordinary household models, achieves a one-time cleaning rate of more than 90% and ensures low noise, which is a amazing indicator in the industry.

Looking around the sweeping robot industry in the market, there are only a few home sweeping robot enterprises that transboundary to the business scene. coayu is a rare brand with both home and commercial sweeping robot development and manufacturing experience.

Courage to cross-boundary commercial sweepers comes from our strength. BONA, the parent company of coayu, entered the field of sweeping robots in 2012. It has been deeply involved in the industry for 8 years, producing and developing sweeping robots for more than 60 brands in 45 countries and regions around the world. The company has obtained more than 140 authorized patents and applied for more than 300 domestic and foreign patents. With years of industry accumulation and independent innovation ability, coayu's product line can achieve full coverage of household and commercial use, and its products range from traditional sweeping robots to window cleaning robots and even lawn mowers.

In the future, coayu will make full efforts in the field of intelligent cleaning, adhere to the needs of users, explore diverse functional requirements, and continue to provide a complete set of cleaning solutions for business scenarios and home environments.

Lose Weight & Get Fit with Tom Kerridge: Brothers in-law lose 17lb in one week – how? – Express - January 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

How to lose weight may well be an aim for a lot of people in January, especially after a period of indulgence, and there are certainly plenty of diets and diet plans to choose from to stimulate weight loss. During tonights instalment of Lose Weight and Get Fit with Tom Kerridge, Tom and his multiple volunteers take on the dreaded first weigh-in to see how they got on following Toms diet and exercise plan.

It's the first full week of the challenge and Tom is back in Gloucester, the city where he grew up, to exercise and cook alongside his diet and fitness gang.

Window cleaning brothers-in-law Dan, 37 and Alex, 34 volunteered for the challenge because of health concerns and a normal day sees them tucking into a big, calorific breakfast and grabbing fast food between jobs.

Dan commented: I wanted to lose weight and be healthier for my kids, I want to be able to have a run around in the park with my boy, too many times I go Im too tired, I cant do this, I cant do that.

Most days the mens' day begins with a trip to a drive-through, starting their day with a greasy and unhealthy breakfast.

READ MORE:Tom Watson: Former MP reveals secrets to 8 stone weight loss

I think the reason we have naughty breakfasts is that we enjoy the rubbish food, it tastes nice explained Alex.

    Accessible and cheap, justified Dan.

Typically their day wouldnt have many exercises incorporated into it, but since joining the challenge the pair had made a promise to change.

What winter dieters miss most is comfort food, Tom explained. A small salad just doesnt cut it when its freezing cold and dieters really fancy a fry-up or a nice curry.

    DON'T MISS

As team chef, Tom wants to get his team off to a good start on calorie counting - and familiar, comforting dishes is the way to go.

Among his lower-calorie recipes this week are fish fingers with sweet potato wedges, red pepper, and spinach pasta bake and a bean stew with sausages, which he describes as one of the best inventions ever probably just behind the wheel.

Personal trainer, Adam, is working closely with Tom and his weight loss gang, and has created a simple stamina and strength workout that slimmers can follow at home.

Adams workout takes about 45minutes. Its half aerobics exercises for the heart and half resistance movements for strength, said Tom.

You dont have to do it all in one go. You can do half the exercises in the morning and half in the evening, added Tom.

So, how did they get on at the first-weigh in?

At the beginning of the weight loss challenge, both Alex and Dan were concerned with their weight and unhealthy eating habits.

But since following the diet and exercise plan, constructed by Tom Kerridge, the brothers-in-law have lost 17 pounds between them, thats 4kg each in just a week.

How did they manage to lose weight so quickly?

Tom revealed that as well as following the diet and fitness plan, the pair have ditched their morning drive through in favour of much healthier breakfast choices, which set them up for the rest of their day.

You dont have to ditch comfort food to count calories, but making small changes to your every day routine can improve your health before you know it, said Tom.

How did Tom Kerridge lose weight originally?

Over the last five years, Tom has gone through an incredible weight loss transformation and he revealed he lost 12 stone using a simple happy diet plan to shed the weight. What was the diet?

The 46-year-old celebrity chef has shed an incredible 12 stone and has transformed the way he eats with the dopamine diet - a diet he is famed for. What is the dopamine diet?

According to BBC Good Food, the dopamine diet encourages slimmers to lose weight, while simultaneously boosting mood too. It is often referred to as the Tom Kerridge diet, as he boosted the popularity of the diet, in recent years.

This diet is all about increasing levels of happy hormone dopamine in the brain at the same time as shedding pounds, the website said.

There are multiple versions of the diet, however, all are based around food that is thought to boost dopamine levels in slimmer.

These can include foods such as:

Dairy foods such as milk, cheese, and yogurt

Unprocessed meats such as beef, chicken, and turkey

Omega-3 rich fish such as salmon and mackerel

    Eggs

Fruit and vegetables, in particular bananas

Nuts such as almonds and walnuts

    Dark chocolate

Most versions of the diet recommend avoiding alcohol, caffeine and processed sugar, while some also recommend cutting out or severely restricting starchy carbohydrates.

Plympton-Wyoming mayor honouring those who give back – Sarnia and Lambton County This Week - January 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Lonny Napper

This past years Plympton-Wyoming Mayors Community Appreciation Awards will honour organizations, volunteers, historians, an author, baseball players, fundraisers and businesses for their contributions to the Lambton County municipality.

I think it was 2010 or 2011 that we started it, Mayor Lonny Napper said about the annual list. Its something my wife and I wanted to do to give back.

Following the tradition he began, Napper will be host to a noon luncheon on Feb. 1 at the Camlachie Community Centre to recognize the new honorees.

He covers the cost of the lunch and those attending are asked to make a donation to a cause selected each year. This year, Napper is recommending a $10 per person donation for Miracle Maxs Minions, a project of one of this years honorees, Brian Schoonjans and his family.

They planted a field of sunflowers in 2019 at their farm on Douglas Line and invited visitors in to take photos and leave a donation in memory of Max Rombouts, a two-year-old boy from Thedford who died that year after battling leukemia.

Its estimated 10,000 people or more visited the field while the sunflowers were blooming in September, and donations came close to $60,000 for charities selected by the Rombouts family.

I just like to honour the people who make a difference in the community, Napper said. Thats why its such a nice place to live because of what they do.

Tickets to this years awards luncheon are available, in advance only, until Jan. 28 by calling the municipal office at 519-845-3939. Charitable receipts will be available for donations of $50 or more.

This years appreciation award recipients also include:

    PICK OF THE DAY

    Good Omens

i's TV newsletter: what you should watch next

Neil Gaiman adapts the 1990 fantasy novel that he co-authored with Terry Pratchett, in which a fussy angel (Michael Sheen) and a hedonistic demon (David Tennant), millennia-old friends now accustomed to life on Earth, unite to prevent the coming of the Antichrist and therefore avert Armageddon. Shown on Amazon last year, this BBC co-production works best as a sort of divine buddy comedy, the enjoyable Sheen-Tennant double-act bolstered by a top-notch cast, including Anna Maxwell Martin as Beelzebub, Successions Brian Cox as the voice of Death, and Daniel Mays and Sian Brooke as the unsuspecting parents of the reluctant Antichrist.

    Trust Me, Im A Doctor

Youve probably heard of ASMR, or autonomous sensory meridian response, which has spawned an online industry of people whispering, scratching books, tapping on glass and other such supposedly soothing sounds. But do they actually (as claimed) help relieve stress and anxiety? Dr Alain Gregoire, whose splendid moustache is enough in itself to relieve stress, investigates with a group of volunteers and discovers a seemingly contradictory mix of lowered heart rates and increased skin arousal. Elsewhere, Dr Javid Abdelmoneim investigates over-the-counter cannabis-based health products.

Lose Weight And Get Fit With Tom Kerridge

In the first full week of the challenge the chef is back in Gloucester, where he grew up, to exercise and cook alongside his fitness gang. As team chef, he wants to get them calorie counting starting with window cleaning brothers-in-law Dan and Alex, who would normally begin their day with a big, calorific breakfast. Kerridge takes them instead on an early bike ride, before giving them a tasty breakfast muffin.

    White House Farm

Freddie Fox continues his chilling turn as Jeremy Bamber, who in 1985 killed his adoptive parents, his half-sister and her two young sons at the eponymous Essex farmhouse. And while suspicion lies heavily on the mentally unstable Sheila committing a murder-suicide, Mark Addys DS Stan Jones is having doubts that a woman built like Twiggys thinner sister would have had the strength to carry out the attacks, much to the impatience of his aggressive superior (played by Stephen Graham).

    Meat The Family

More from the four families who are challenging their meat-eating habits by caring for farm animals in their homes. Dawn, John and the boys have fallen in love with their pigs, but a vegetarian barbecue goes disastrously wrong. Meanwhile, there are new arrivals for Pam, Lou, Jade and Jazmyn, who are responsible for rearing two lambs. Will a trip to a farm during lambing season prompt Pam, a convinced carnivore, to challenge her long-held beliefs?

    The Great Pottery Throw Down

Judge Keith Brymer Jones is reduced to tears again as the 11 remaining potters are tasked with hand-building an elaborate chess set, quite an endeavour with 32 individual pieces to craft, followed by throwing miniature vases at the wheel (as it were). Melanie Sykes is the new Sara Cox of the resurrected show.

Talented footballer supplied golf ball-sized amounts of cocaine to pay off debt – Nottinghamshire Live - January 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

A dealer supplied golf ball-sized amounts of cocaine to pay off a debt.

Dexter Atkinson pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply, and supplying a quantity of cocaine to another between January 1, 2019, and August 29, 2019. when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.

The 23-year-old, of Gibbons Avenue, Stapleford,

Charges were brought when police searched the 23-year-old's address, in Gibbons Avenue, Stapleford, and found varying amounts of cocaine, including five golf ball-sized amounts worth between 3,000 and 5,000.

Two sets of scales had the presence of cocaine, there were dealer's lists, deal bags and 1,700 in a bedroom.

Jeremy Janes, mitigating, said Atkinson, who had no previous convictions, "comes from a loving, supportive family" and "has a real talent for football".

He said Atkinson had worked as part of a project to steer others away from the path he was to "ultimately take".

In 2018, Atkinson had been charged with unlawful wounding - a serious allegation that he stabbed another person in Stapleford, added Mr Janes.

He was electronically tagged for more than a year when, one month before the trial, the prosecution reviewed the evidence and concluded it was insufficient against him.

No evidence was offered against Atkinson last autumn.

"Because of the tag, he was unable to do the work he had done before," said Mr Janes.

"He fitted and sold tyres and did window cleaning but it was difficult".

He turned to temptation and, in one sense, easy money, said Mr Janes, and was supplying cocaine in the golf ball size to try and pay off a debt for a different sort of drug.

Judge Timothy Spencer QC told Atkinson: "You have lost your good character in a spectacular way".

He was jailed for two years and ten months.
