Certified Arborist Rob Calley has recently been nominated to the board of directors of the International Society of Arboricultures Florida Chapter. This is a huge step for Calley, Backridge Tree Service and the local tree care industry. As a board member, Calley will have a direct impact on the tree care industry from safety training and education to state and federal legislation concerning tree care and tree professionals.
"I am humbled by the responsibility, but I can't wait to get started, said Calley. Arborist Travis Morales has also recently received news of an exciting achievement. He has been accepted by North American Training Solutions (NATS), the worlds leading arboricultural training firm. Morales will travel to Georgia in February for a week-long training program, and after graduation will be a lead instructor for NATS. He will maintain his job as lead arborist at Backridge Tree Service, but travel several times a year around the country putting on training events.
"This is a career dream for me, said Morales. NATS is so exclusive, I can't believe its real sometimes. I accept the challenge and look forward to making a difference in the profession I love. If one climber learns something from me that will keep him safe and returning to his family every day, I've done my job."

A large tree burst a three-inch water main when it toppled over in a Woodland neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
City crews are working to clear the tree and make repairs to the line, which has left five homes without water along Ashley Avenue.

The tree's limbs and branches extended into the middle of the roadway, which has been closed off.
When the tree fell overnight and cracked the water pipe, water spewed into the air, forcing utility workers to shut off water to the handful of homes.
Crews said they won't be able to fix the line until the massive pine tree is removed.
"The tree is the big hold up," said Woodland Public Works deputy director Rob Sanders."We cant get to the waterline, the waterline is actually about a foot behind the walk. So its laying right over the water line and thats where it broke."
Crews were called to the location several days earlier when the home owner noticed water boiling up from area near the base of the tree.
"I heard this gurgling and there was water coming out from the base of the tree," said homeowner Robin Bent."I called the city and they came right over. The line was broken and they fixed it."
Bent said she has been keeping a close eye on the tree and was making plans to some day remove the tree.
