POWNAL, Vt. -- At its recent regular meeting, the Select Board heard from unofficial "tree warden" and local forestry expert David Dence on hazardous tree removal and replanting efforts on town-owned land.
Also a teacher at the Southwest Vermont Career Development Center in Bennington, Dence suggested at the Thursday night meeting that the town create a plan to budget in advance for the removal of dead or potentially dangerous trees on public property. Dence listed concerns with the practice of waiting to remove trees until they are an imminent threat, or after they have already fallen.
Pointing out that the town owns a chipper and a dump truck, and could therefore eliminate costs for renting heavy equipment to assist with tree disposal, Dence was joined by Board Chairman Stephen Kauppi in his desire to preserve historic town landmarks -- namely its cemeteries and hardscapes dating back centuries.
The board approved of the idea and agreed they would be interested in following up on it, especially if CDC students were able to gain experience by contributing some of the surveying and arbor work and thereby save the town some of the overall cost.
A review of Bridge 42 was postponed Thursday due to heavy rains. Board members rescheduled the review for Thursday, Sept. 19, prior to the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Community members are welcome.
Hazardous waste collection will be held at the Shaftsbury Waste Facility on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. Latex paint will not be accepted -- dried cans of latex paint may be combined with regular trash, officials said.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 14, 2013
Throughout the Houston metropolitan area, a wide range of trees can be found in parks as well as on commercial and residential properties. These trees must be maintained over the years to keep them beautiful and lush, but there may come a time when the property owner wants or needs them to be removed. BIO Landscape is a full-service tree and landscaping company, and it has been providing local residents across Houston with tree maintenance and assistance with other related tasks for years. Recently, this reputable company has announced the introduction of new tree services to benefit its customers.
While beautiful trees can add numerous benefits to a property, such as increasing property value, and providing shade to promote the energy efficiency of nearby buildings, they may need to be removed for specific reasons. For example, some trees may have become damaged due to pest infestations or bad weather. They may need to be removed for new construction projects, to build a swimming pool on a property, or because their roots or branches are causing damage to plumbing or other property features. BIO Landscape offers a full range of tree removal services to meet the needs of each of its customers.
Removing a tree from a property is difficult and sometimes even dangerous work. When trees are not removed properly, they can cause damage to the property and to nearby vegetation. They can also cause bodily harm to individuals attempting to remove or trim them without the proper training or equipment. Professional tree removal is completed by the team at BIO Landscape with great results. The team has considerable experience removing trees from different properties, and they can safely remove trees of all types and sizes. Removing a tree with great results involves being careful when the limbs and branches are being removed. Care should be taken to ensure that the roots are removed as well. When roots remain in the ground, they can continue to affect property foundations, plumbing features, and more. Professional tree removal from BIO Landscaping will cover all the bases and will provide fast service.
BIO Landscape is a full-service tree company, and its team can provide other services as a benefit to Houston area residents. In addition to tree removal service, the team also can provide tree inspections. Many local residents may be concerned about the health of their tree at some point, and a tree inspection can reveal if a tree can be saved with pruning services or if it should be removed. Tree maintenance services with pruning and other types of services are also available from BIO Landscape. There is no tree service request that is too large or too small for BIO Landscape to assist with.
Houston area property owners who have trees on their property will benefit from working with the team at BIO Landscape for all of their tree pruning and maintenance needs. The highly skilled team of arborists offer an extensive tree removal service to meet all local property owners needs.
About BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. has been the go-to source that local property owners across the area have turned to for their tree service needs.
