LAS CRUCES For many, it's become a traditional way to walk off some Thanksgiving calories, pick up some unique gifts, and meet artists and see where they work.

The sixth annual Fall Studio Tour Along the Picacho Corridor runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"Clustered near the downtown area is a friendly group of visual artists who host an open-studio tour every Thanksgiving weekend. This year, there are 20 artists in 11 studios who will display their work in a studio environment, offering refreshments and excellent prices on fine art from painting and drawing to pottery, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, photography, digital art, and artistic textile works," reports printmaker and multimedia artists Ouida Touchon, who will open her studio at 1200 N. Reymond St.

Following in the tradition of the annual ArtsHop here, which evolved into the monthly downtown Ramble, and similar seasonal tours throughout the United States, Touchon decided to gather artists here for the annual event.

"This year, we're doing something a little different and having guest artists. My special guest artist is Glenn Schwaiger, who created the wonderful tile surface in the downtown La Placita. He teaches ceramics at DACC and is setting up a tent display at my studio with his

"Earlybirds will definitely find the best selection of paintings at the best prices and some of us are offering special discounts," said Bonnie Mandoe of Quesenberry Farmhouse Studio, 825 Quesenberry St.

"Deidra Schaub of RiffRaff Jewelry, who makes all of her pieces from recycled papers, books and art prints will be the guest artist at the studio of Tauna Cole, 33 W. Ethel Ave.," Touchon said.

Other participating artists include Ann Angelo, Pat Bonneau-White, Mary Beagle, David Brown, Tauna Cole, Lyn Orana, John and Penny Duncklee, Linda Gendall, Mary LeBlanc, Bonnie Mandoe, John and Kris Northcutt, Penny Thomas-Simpson, John Schooley, David Sorensen and Marie Siegrist.

Look for yellow "Open Studio" signs along Picacho Avenue. Studios are clustered among the side streets between Motel Boulevard to the west and Tornillo, just above Mesquite Street, to the east.
