National company expands to western Pennsylvania - September 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BEAVER FALLS -- The remnants of an old tile warehouse have been reinvigorated.

Chalmers & Kubeck Inc., aPhiladelphia-area-based business, is re-equipping the Beaver Falls warehouse to capitalize on the safety-release valve market as well as industrial repairs for anything from machines in steel mills to boilers at community colleges, plant manager John Davis said.

Safety-release valves automatically reduce pressure buildup. When those valves dont work, explosions can result.

If that goes, the whole plant shuts down or it goes kaboom, said Travis Thompson, the valve shop leader.

Two of Gov. Tom Corbetts Cabinet secretaries are scheduled to visit the property, at 1018 11th St. in Beaver Falls, on Wednesday as part of a tour. State money is helping Chalmers & Kubeck Inc., of Aston, launch the local shop, with up to $600,000 in tax credits and $122,500 in grants.

The secretaries include C. Alan Walker of the Department of Community and Economic Development and Julia Hearthway of the Department of Labor & Industry.

A DCED spokeswoman said Tuesday, though, that the department has currently scheduled its deputy secretary for community affairs, Michael Cortez, to visit the site.

The move comes as the business last year became the sole authorized assembler for General Electric consolidated safety valves, Davis said. The territory spans from western New York to northern West Virginia, he said.

The company is also eyeing Shell Chemicals proposed petrochemical plant in Potter Township, but even without it, the company sees a robust economy, Davis said. The business has shops from Maine to Florida, he said.

The state awarded the company a $500,000 enterprise zone tax credit, given to encourage business in certain areas, and its also eligible for up to $100,000 in job-creation tax credits, Beaver County Corporation for Economic Development Vice President Robert Rice said.

Centura Tile, Canadas Premier Distributor of Floor and Wall Fashions, Discusses Three Issues to Address Before … - September 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) September 16, 2014

Centura Tile (http://www.Centura.ca), North Americas premier distributor of both residential and commercial floor and wall fashions, is discussing three important things homeowners should keep in mind before selling their home.

So many matters need to be addressed when going through the process of selling a home, says Ross Keltie, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Centura Tile. Apart from the loads of paperwork to ensure the transaction happens smoothly, there are also house maintenance issues that need to be taken care of before selling.

According to Keltie, one of the most important pieces of advice is to pay attention to all of the little things. Replacing loose or chipped tiles, filling in holes in the walls, and regrouting are all work that can be done with minimal time commitment but go a long way in improving the aesthetic of a home, making it more appealing for resale.

The next suggestion is to do whatever it takes so the new owners would never know you had a pet, he continues. Pets cause minor damages to homes, including staining the carpets or scratching wood floors. These are noticeable issues that need to be addressed so its not instantly apparent to the buyer that a pet was present in the home.

The last tip is to make things less personal, Keltie concludes. Yes, you are selling your home, but you need to set the stage so buyers can envision themselves in what would hopefully be their home one day.

Centura Tile is the premier distributor of both residential and commercial floor and wall fashions throughout North America. Founded in 1933, Centura Tile has grown from a single location in Toronto to 14 locations coast-to-coast; each with a full showroom and warehousing facilities. Each Centura Tile location carries an extensive range of floor and wall products, such as ceramic tile, porcelain, mosaics, stone, vinyl, rubber, carpet, laminate, and hardwood from leading manufacturers around the world. Centura Tile also has the most complete range of accessory products to complement any installation, including bases, treads, mortar, grout, engineered cements, adhesives, trim systems, and tools. Renovating Old Main - September 12, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

For more than a hundred years, North Dakota State College of Sciences Old Main has overlooked the campus.

It was built in 1891 and after a hundred years of use, the building needed renovations.

Executive Director of Facilities Management Dallas Fossum said work will ensure that Old Main stays standing for another 100 years.

Starting in February 2014, the renovation project at Old Main has been an effort to bring the best of two worlds together by fully revitalizing the building with new technology and its original character.

The full renovation of the building is expected to be finished by the summer of 2015and be ready for use during that fall semester. So far, Fossum said everything is running on schedule.

Were nearing completion on a lot of the structural steel work inside that was required both to accommodate the new design and to shore up the building so it can last for decades to come, said Fossum. Theyre already framing a lot of interior walls and are nearly done with sheet rock work.

Additionally, Fossum explained that a lot of the plumbing and electrical work has been accomplished. Currently, the crews are focused on the basement level of the building, as Fossum said there is renovation work to be completed on the drain tile to make sure moisture stays out of the building.

The windows will then follow, Fossum said. The plan is to start installing the windows here in late September, working from the fourth floor down. They want to get it done this fall so they can do the finish work over the winter.

As it nears completion, Fossum said landscaping work will begin to get completed and by mid-summer of 2015 the fence is expected to come down.

Upon its completion, the building will be utilized by students and faculty alike, holding both offices and classrooms. Also included will be a tutoring center and an academic services center.

County plans tile repair east of town - September 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Wright County Board of Supervisors agreed Monday to take charge of a shared drainage project in Drainage District 111, which lies along the Franklin County line six miles southeast of Belmond (or one mile west of Alexander).

The supervisors made a conference call to their counterparts in Franklin County because the work, which involves Lateral 5, is totally in Wright County, according to Wright County Drainage Clerk Deb Loux.

The main work being planned is enlarging and extending the tile in Wright County. Once completed, there will be a reclassification so Lateral 5 will no longer be considered a joint district with Franklin County.

Lukes said Franklin County landowners will not have to help pay for the project in any way. Instead, affected property owners in Wright County will be assessed for it.

In other news, the supervisors received two quotes for re-roofing the courthouse. Neither quote was accepted, since the board is waiting for a few more bids and wants to consult with the countys insurance company. This matter will be discussed again next week.
