Sunrooms 910-550-3933 Wilmington NC Sunrooms - July 25, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

Sunrooms can be called many things, a solarium, sun-porch, Florida room, or enclosure, but they generally are a glass and screen room to create an indoor space with an outdoor feel. What is more important than the name is whether or not it fits your home and lifestyle. A Sunroom can be added to your deck, patio or porch using convenient panel systems that easily attach to existing structures or completely customized to match both the interior and exterior design of your home.

From enjoying a cup of coffee and your favorite book to entertaining guests, this new bonus room will fill your home with light and life. Including details from the rest of your home, such as flooring, or a solid roof to continue match the rest of the roof line can be achieved with a custom sunroom installation. The perfect sunroom is versatile, comfortable and spacious all while maintaining the beauty and aesthetics of your homes design.

    When you start considering Sunroom additions, begin listing every way you would like to use the space and what part of the outdoors you would like to bring in.What are you more concerned about When considering sunroom design plans, keep these questions in mind;

The answers to these questions can help determine if your sunroom designs should include a glass enclosure, or is only screened in. If you simply want to enjoy your porch without the annoyances of bugs or pests, a screen option will work. For year round enjoyment the best way to control the temperature is if the sunroom is a glass enclosure with an insulated roof. However, the heating and cooling of a sunroom can be easily circulated from the rest of the house even with glass, aluminum or vinyl walls and windows.

A sliding panel system like Eze-Breeze sunroom can allow for the desired air flow, with protection from bugs as well as protection from weather, dust and wind with its vinyl windows. Sunrooms have been created all over Wilmington and North Carolina by All Seasons Roofings team of experts. They use high quality products from companies like Metals USA, Structall Building Systems, PGT and Custom Window Systems.

Looking to add some living space to your home, but reluctant to take on a full renovation? Consider adding a sunroom. Usually constructed onto the side of a house, a sunroom is intended as supplemental living space; it allows you a sheltered place to enjoy the surrounding landscape, happily protected from bugs, rain, wind, and other adverse conditions. It wont be plumbed, and traditionally it isnt wired for electricityalthough, with digital devices as almost constant companions, most homeowners now insist that any additions to the home have a number of outlets. Even with wiring, a basic sunroom will still have a lower per-foot cost than a regular addition.

Though adding a sunroom isnt as thorny an undertaking as a major addition or renovation, its still a construction project, and great care must be taken. The planning stage of adding a sunroom is the most critical, and many decisions will determine the final success of your addition.

Set a budget. Decide ahead of time how much money you want to commit to the project, and stick to it. Your design options will be guided by the amount you are willing to spend. It may even be wise to consult a realtor or appraiser before you begin planning. Even if you only want to add the sunroom for your own enjoyment, talking to an expert about how it will affect the value of your home can help you decide how much you want to invest in it. While you cant expect to recoup the entire value of any renovation, knowing the cost-to-value ratio can help you tailor your plans accordingly.

Examine your property. Where the sunroom is placed in relation to the rest of your house is very important. Two things you should keep in mind when planning your sunroom are its impact on the rest of the house as well as how much sun will hit the roommost people try to add a sunroom to the south-facing side of the house to get the greatest amount of sunlight. Also consider the sight lines from the streetbe sure that a new structure in the area you have chosen wont compromise your homes curb appeal.

Check the zoning and permits. Contrary to popular belief, even a sunroom addition has to have permits pulled. Your local zoning board will be able to issue the correct permits and can help you understand the building codes that must be followed. These codes will also be important guides to help you decide the features and appearance of your sunroom.

Plan for construction. There are two types of sunroom additions: prefabricated and site built. A prefabricated sunroom is assembled at the manufacturing plant, then broken down and shipped to your house, where it will be reassembled by the installer. This option may limit your design possibilities, but it can also save on time and costs. With a site-built sunroom, you can opt for just about any combination of flooring, windows, and roof style that you can dream up. Of course, that level of customization means you will pay more, and its easy to allow flights of fancy to overtake your set budget. Whether standard or customized, the sunroom must rest on a solid foundation, which should be considered in the building plan. For examples of the most common types and purposes of sunrooms, check out Friday's blog.

If you are adding a site-built sunroom, it might be wise to have an architect draw up blueprints for your contractor to follow; however, if your budget is more constrained, there are computer-aided design programs that you can use to create plans at a significantly smaller cost.

Get estimates. Once you have a plan in place, its time to look for a company that can make your dream a reality. When asking for an estimate, be sure to show the contractor your building plan so that any special features that may affect the overall cost can be accounted for. Also, ask about the time frame the contractor foresees in the completion of the project; a sunroom may be less complicated than a full-room addition, but any type of remodeling work is going to be a disruption. It is better to know up front how long youll have to accommodate workers on your property.

Whether you opt for a simple glass enclosure or a dramatic, lavish design, a sunroom can open up space in your home and let in more natural light. With a little bit of forethought, you can plan out a new room that will allow your whole family to enjoy the outdoors without sacrificing a bit of comfort.

Sunroom vs. Room Addition – Patio Enclosures - March 21, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

In this article you will learn

Many people are finding it economically smart to expand their existing home rather than move to a larger home; or they may wish to stay in their current neighborhood for other reasons. Regardless, when it is time to add on, you should consider which option is best: A room addition or a sunroom? A sunroom is an all-encompassing term that can be either a three season room or a four season room; it could also be a solarium, which is a all season room with a glass roof.

A three season room is not insulated for winter weather, so in four season climates it will be too cold to use during winter months. It typically does not have its own central air-conditioning for summer weather either. An all season room can be used every day of the year. It is properly insulated for every season, has a heating and cooling unit and is a fully functioning room just like any other room in your home.

A room addition is built on site: the foundation, the walls and roof are built, windows and doors are hung, and insulation, roofing and siding finish the building. A sunroom is a prefabricated modular addition to your home. It is built indoors under climate-controlled conditions, so there is no danger of building materials becoming mildewed or warped from weather exposure; then it is transported to your location and set in place.

A sunroom is a pre-fabricated sunrooms have more efficient insulation because the insulation is installed at the factory where all areas of the unit can be easily accessed as the sunroom is created. Conversely, it can be difficult to access, caulk and insulate portions of a stick-built addition. Construction for a pre-fabricated sunroom is less costly than a stick built addition and construction is not hampered by weather delays, so your addition is likely to be finished when promised. The other great thing about a modular sunroom addition is that the quality is checked throughout the construction process for consistency. And, of course, there is no limit on the design, style or amenities that you can choose with a modular sunroom.

Finally, there is no comparison between a sunroom addition and a stick built addition when it comes to the square footage of glass. Room additions use narrow, double hung windows with standard sizes which results in a considerable amount of fill material. Patio Enclosures sunroom additions employ edge to edge glass for a 180 view with glass from floor to ceiling improving ambient light that results in more usage of the room.

In the final analysis, the best option should be based on your purpose and vision for the room. If you are looking for more family living space, a three season or four season room can easily meet that goal; you just need to determine if your room requires fully functioning heat and air-conditioning or if three seasons of use will suffice. Keep in mind that a four season room addition can be suitable for nearly any type of addition. For example, a four season sunroom can be a great way to expand your kitchen and dining area or turn your bedroom into a spacious, luxurious suite.

Why not see for yourself how a three or four season room can add to the spaciousness, function and comfort of your home. Schedule your free in-home design estimate or call 800-230-8301 today!
