Man who caused school lockdown gets jail time - May 14, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

by Amber Gillenwater agillenwater@civitasmedia.com Gallipolis Daily Tribune

GALLIPOLIS A Gallia County man who had fled officers attempting to serve him with an arrest warrant late last month for probation violations, was sentenced to prison on Monday in the Gallia County Common Pleas Court.

David L. McCormick, 39, Gallipolis, was sentenced to serve a total of 17 months of imprisonment in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction after his community control was revoked.

McCormick, who was arrested on May 2 by a Gallia County Sheriffs Deputies, fled from officers who approached his Green Terrace Court residence in Centenary earlier that week and subsequently was the cause of a lockdown at nearby Green Elementary School and Gallia Academy School.

McCormick reportedly fled on foot into the woods located opposite of the trailer court at approximately 9:30 a.m. on April 29.

Both schools were contacted by authorities as a precaution and were locked down until 10:45 a.m. that morning.

McCormick remained at large until his arrest on the morning of May 2 by deputies who were able to make contact with the suspect and take him into custody.

The defendant was initially charged in this case with one count of felony theft by deception after he reportedly stole $9,000 from the victim in October 2009.

According to the police report, McCormick had agreed to perform some work for the victim including a roof replacement and siding replacement on the victims residence. However, after providing money to the defendant for materials needed for the work, the victim reported that he never saw or heard from McCormick again.

A indictment against McCormick was later filed against McCormick in December 2009, and, the following August, the defendant entered a guilty plea to a fourth-degree felony theft charge and was subsequently sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $9,000 to the victim.

Small Remodeling Budgets, Big Upgrades - May 10, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Thinkstock

If you've got a smaller home with no more than five to eight front windows without shutters, consider adding some to improve the curb appeal, advises Sullivan. However, on a $1,000 budget youll likely only be able to afford vinyl shutters, which start at $21 per pair at Home Depot (wooden shutters start at $46 per pair). You'll spend the remainder of your $1,000 budget having a professional install them.

If you already have exterior shutters and theyre in good condition, apply a fresh coat of paint to give them new life. The cost of hiring a painter to update exterior shutters varies by location, but it can be less than $1,000 depending on the quality of the paint and other materials, such as primer, being used. In Washington, D.C., for example, the average cost of painting 16 shutters for eight windows starts at $581.55, according to Homewyse.com, a Web site that offers cost projections for labor and materials. In Seattle, it'll run you $650.81.

Farrell: Tazawa Will Close For Red Sox - May 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

BOSTON (CBS) It didnt take long for John Farrell to name Bostons replacement closer.

Farrell said he will turn to Junichi Tazawa to close out games with both Andrew Bailey and Joel Hanrahan on the shelf.

Tazawa has a little bit more fastball, Farrell said on MLB Network Radio on Tuesday. Whether Im siding with the traditional approach with a little more power late in the game, thats there. So right now, thats the initial approach well take to closing things out.

Tazawa has been stellar out of the Boston bullpen this season, walking just three batters and allowing just four runs over 14.1 innings of work. The reliever has struck out 18 batters while recording nine holds.

Tazawa has only one career save, a three-inning appearance which came last season.

Farrell opted to go with Tazawa over Koji Uehara, who he will use in the eighth inning when needed.

The one thing I like with Koji is youre going to get those pinch-hit left-handers in the eighth inning, and hes so effective against lefties, the Sox manager said. Thats where you might get a little bit of that gamesmanship or the matchup capability in the eighth inning.

Bailey, who the Red Sox placed on the disabled list on Monday with a right biceps strain, is eligible to be activated on May 14. Hanrahan was inserted back into the closers role but left the mound in the ninth inning of Monday nights 11-inning, 6-5 win over the Twins with forearm tightness. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
