ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Three former Indianapolis 500 starters visited the Window World, Inc.(R) booth at the West Coast Franchise Expo last week in Anaheim, Ca., to sign The Stinger, a modern day centennial tribute to the first winning Indy 500 car, the 1911 Marmon Wasp.

Anaheim was The Stinger's latest stop on a nationwide tour to obtain signatures from each of the 274 living Indy 500 starters, dating from 1949 to 2011, whose names are laid out on the vehicle's graphics package. During the three-day event, Window World hosted Alex Barron, George Mack, and Billy Scott at its booth for the car signings. "It is an honor to be a part of this legacy and support such a worthy cause," said Alex Barron about his signing. George Mack added, "I am thrilled to be involved with this mission and to work with John Andretti, Window World and Window World Cares."
Window World Cares(R), Window World's philanthropic foundation benefitting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R), makes a donation of $189 for each signature. The three additional signatures from the West Coast Franchise Expo bring the current total to 236 driver signings and $44,604. The car will be auctioned at a later date, with proceeds supporting St. Jude's mission of finding a cure for childhood cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. Billy Scott commented on the project, "The Stinger represents more than the first 100 years of racing at the Indy 500, it represents hope for the children of St. Jude and their families."
Window World attended the event, known as the largest franchise expo in the west, to meet potential new franchisees interested in becoming part of America's Largest Replacement Window and Residential Remodeling Company. Attendees had the chance to speak with top Window World executives face-to-face to learn more about current franchising opportunities.
The Stinger's next stop will be the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, in November.

The group working to save and restore the long-deteriorating Forest Grove School in Bettendorf has received a boost withnotification that the building has been added tothe National Register of Historic Places.
The designation is important because it gives the structure "a whole new level of credibility" with funding sources, including the National Park Service, which maintains theregister, Sharon Andresen, an organizer of Forest Grove School Preservation, said Friday.
The grouphas two grant applications totaling about $35,000 that are pending with the Riverboat Development Authority and the Scott County Regional Authority.
The money would payfora newroof and gutters, eight replacement windows, a replacement for the front door and aheating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning system.
The big question everyone wants answered is when the roof will be replaced, Andresen said.
A tarp was placed over the roofin the fall of 2012, but there has been one delay after another since then as far as getting to the roof, she said.
One delay involves the preservation group's desire to build a replica bell tower, bringing the school back to how itlooked in 1949. A box for the tower needs to be built on the roof before the rest of it is replaced, she said.
"We would like to see construction of the bell tower on the ground this winter so that it can be lifted by crane in the spring, but we hate to commit to anything because it's all dependent on money," she added.
Another delay involving the roof is that the group first will have to build a chimney even though it will be non-functioning because that was a significant feature of the original school, Andresen said.
Still, much has been accomplished since she and others interested in saving the school including the children of its former owners announced their plans in February 2012.

Hugh Pickens DOT Com writes "Many of New York City's subway cars are well past their prime and due for fleet replacement, most strikingly those on the C line, known by their model number, R32, and for the tin-can siding that will continue rolling beneath Eighth Avenue for at least a few more years. Now the NYT reports that transit planners have urged the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to consider articulated subway cars for any future fleet upgrades. Articulated cars, already adopted in cities like Berlin, Paris, and Toronto, have no doors between cars, allowing unrestricted flow throughout the length of the train that could increase capacity by 8 percent to 10 percent. Adam Lisberg, the authority's chief spokesman, says that increased capacity could also improve 'dwell time' the period during which a train is stopped in a station, often because of overcrowding and allow more trains to run. 'We're one of the largest systems in the world that doesn't do it,' says Richard Barone, the director of transportation programs at the Regional Plan Association. 'Our trains don't function right now to allow people to circulate.' Articulation also has the benefit of making empty trains feel safer. By allowing passengers the ability to move between cars easily and to see passengers throughout the train, the isolation that can sometimes feel dangerous on a late-night subway is less of an issue, simply because the whole train is joined together like one huge car. But not everyone embraces the idea. Elizabeth Kubany who works in the Flatiron district, expressed a fondness for the current configuration, suggesting that the separated cars were more 'intimate' binding passenger to passenger in an increasingly antisocial age. Then she reconsidered. 'You don't really want to be intimate with people on the train.'"

Efforts to loosen one of the St. Louis regions most notorious traffic choke points wrapped up on Friday.
During the last two summers, the Missouri Department of Transportation overcame one significant physical obstacle to add another lane in each direction on Interstate 270, roughly between Manchester Road and Interstate 44.
MoDOT had to work around railroad bridge columns that carry tracks over the bustling interstate, and blasted away some of the rock bluffs that posed a natural barrier to widening. Replacing the bridge would have been cost-prohibitive, MoDOT officials say.
So the project called for adding a fifth lane in each direction to the four-lane highway. MoDOT did this by making the north- and southbound lanes slightly narrower than the traditional 12-foot lane width.
Reader Marcel Roy of Crestwood noticed that there were some complications to merging onto southbound I-270 at Dougherty Ferry while the work was under way.
With the entrance ramp restricted to one merge lane, traffic could sometimes back up on eastbound Dougherty Ferry, and sometimes on southbound Des Peres Road.
The new northbound lane between Manchester Road and I-44 opened in December 2012. With little fanfare, MoDOT officials on Friday opened the fifth southbound lane between Dougherty Ferry Road and I-44.
The need was pretty clear. The roughly four-mile stretch carries 175,000 to 185,000 cars each day, making it one of the busiest roads in the region.
Traffic is known to slow to a crawl and by crawl, we mean about 35 mph on a typical morning commute on the northbound segment of I-270. That means it takes about 10 minutes more to drive this section during rush hour than periods of light traffic.
The state learned during the nearly two-year closure of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) that it could restripe highways without sacrificing safety. During the Highway 40 closure, MoDOT painted narrower lanes on sections of Interstate 70 and I-44.

IRONTON -- The Ohio Attorney General's office wants to help 35 Ironton residents it claims were scammed to the tune of more than $171,000 by a contractor between December 2012 and April 2013.
But finding the owners and operators of All Seasons Contracting, which reportedly operated out of Grayson, Ky., while doing work in Lawrence County, Ohio, hasn't been easy.
Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a civil suit against the company and its owners, Patrick and Carol Richard, on Sept. 30, alleging the company solicited business in Lawrence County for housing repairs, took the money and never completed the work. Most of the jobs included roofing and siding repairs or replacement, according to the complaint.
The suit claims most work was never completed, and what was done was "substandard/shoddy."
Though the business had residents sign a contract, it did not inform customers of their right to cancel or provide a cancellation form, nor did the business have a license to operate in Ohio, according to the lawsuit.
Phone calls to the Kentucky numbers listed on the company's contract forms were not answered Wednesday.
According to the suit, All Seasons Contracting is registered out of Frankfort, Ill., and Patrick and Carol Richard reside in Manhattan, Ill., a town of less than 10,000 residents about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.
DeWine's suit seeks to stop the company from ever doing business in Ohio again, that all parties victimized by the company get refunds, and that the company be fined $25,000 for each violation of the Consumer Sales Protection Act. There are three violations alleged in the suit.
A glance at the case history in the Lawrence County Common Pleas Court shows a copy of the lawsuit and a court summons sent to the corporate address in Frankfort, Ill., were returned marked "unable to forward" on Oct. 10.
