The sounds of home repairs can be considered as an annoyance to homeowners, but they're music to the ears of one Tarentum resident.
Richard Simpson, who lives at 529 Third Ave., is having much-needed new siding put on his house a service provided for free from Hosanna Industries Inc.
Hosanna Industries is a nonprofit Christian organization that provides home repairs to residents who can't afford them.
Simpson is grateful to receive the work.
I'm just trying to help with whatever they need, Simpson said after he hoisted a ladder onto his roof for workers.
Simpson, 52, grew up in the house and inherited it in 2000. He said the repairs have been needed for many years, but working a minimum wage job made paying for it difficult.
I'm just really glad that I was able to hear about Hosanna, Simpson said. It's like a godsend.
Becky Hetzer, who has been with Hosanna Industries for 18 years, is one of the mission workers doing the repairs. She said the appreciation shown from Simpson when he found out he was getting the siding was what makes the job worth doing.
The way that he looked me in the eye was enough to bring tears, Hetzer said.
Hetzer said the job is rewarding and gratifying on many levels.

The Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation is closing the historic grist mill at Eden Mill Nature Center and Park this Monday for several months, as the exterior of the more than 200-year-old mill is renovated.
Workers will replace the exterior wooden siding and the building's 39 windows, Paul Magness, parks and recreation's deputy director, said Thursday.
"The siding that's there has run its course," Magness said. "It's at the end of its useful life."
The Eden Mill Nature Center next to the mill and the rest of the park grounds will remain open while the work at the mill is progress.
Magness explained that the windows and siding on the mill building must be replaced to ensure water does not leak into the structure during a rain storm.
"Water can very easily penetrate into the historic mill, and this will certainly help with that issue and protect the inside," Magness said.
The mill in Pylesville is a Harford County registered historic property, and the renovation project received approval from the county's historic commission in February.
Magness said the commission members had to ensure "replacement construction materials that we're using are going to match the existing size and color of the structure."
The county has a $194,280 contract with L.C. Bathon Builders. The mill is expected to be closed for tours for four months.
Magness said the contractor is "confident" the work will be completed in time for Eden Mill's annual Fall Fest scheduled for Nov. 8.

GORHAM - Buckling under pressure, the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday temporarily halted repairs on a landmark after critics claimed the work spoiled the historical significance of the 193-year-old art gallery building on its Gorham campus.
Repairs to the landmark, built in 1821, began last year. Under the universitys renovation, windows were removed last week from the sides of the building, along with its wooden clapboards. The university plans call for replacing clapboards with vinyl siding. The plan is to store the windows and window sashes.
But, the repair project, costing $320,000, came under fire last week.
Theyve destroyed the exterior fabric of the building, Thomas Johnson, chairman of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, said on July 11, when he viewed the scene.
The sides and rear of the building were wrapped in Tyvek sheeting. Some molding pieces and broken clapboards with vintage nails were strewn on the ground near by. Johnson analyzed a strip of broken, milled wood.
This was cut from virgin forest, said Johnson, who is also director of the Victoria Mansion in Portland.
Bundles of new replacement materials were stacked behind the art gallery.
Gorham resident Adam Ogden said placing synthetic materials on the landmark is totally inappropriate. Ogden raised awareness of the project after seeing the building minus its siding and windows.
This is a crime, Ogden said on July 11.

Three Mid-Missouri businesses are among 16 home-repair firms targeted for legal action by Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, who claims they defrauded customers.
In anews release, Koster said complaints about home repair and remodeling businesses are common, particularly after storms. He says there have been more than 330 complaints so far this year.
The Mid-Missouri businesses he is suing include:
-Switzer Construction in Boone County. Koster alleges owner Cory Smith took at least $21,000 from eight customers without performing roof and deck work as promised. -St. Clair Windows and Doors in Cole County. Koster says owner Ronald Spielman took at least $9,000 from two people while failing to do promised work or performing substandard work. -Kremer Construction in Cole County. Koster charges owner Paul Kremer took $4,000 from two consumers for roofing, gutter, and siding replacement and did little or no work.
Most of the remaining businesses are in the St. Louis area. Koster says the lawsuit affects at least 80 Missouri homeowners who lost about $360,000.
