Toms River, NJ (PRWEB) October 08, 2014
Carls Fencing, Decking & Home Improvements, a family-owned full-service home remodeler, has announced that Jackson residents John Way, along with wife Donna Way, have won their $5,000 grand prize sweepstakes. The sweepstakes, initiated in September, offered one past customer of Carls $5,000 worth of home improvement services.
Over 400 entries were received and the winners were announced at the end of Carls Customer Appreciation Day held at 1579 Route 9 on Saturday, October 4, 2014. According to the sweepstakes's terms and conditions, the winner must have been present to win. We entered because we had things we needed done in our house, said Mrs. Way. We will probably use the money to replace some sliding doors and some windows.
Prior to the drawing at 3:00 pm, past customers of Carls enjoyed a day of fun with free educational seminars, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, balloon animals, and refreshments. Vendors in attendance included Owens Corning, Uptite Fasteners, Dexerdry, James Hardie, WOLF, FLW International, and Kensington HPP. Kensington, a replacement vinyl window supplier for Carls, donated four gift cards that were raffled off during the event. Personal appearances were made by Kevin Williams from WOBM Radio and Steve Trevelise from NJ 101.5, along with station vans and crews to provide music and entertainment throughout the day. Toms River Mayor, Thomas F. Kelaher, also attended to conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the re-branding and expansion of Carls into all areas of home improvement. Carl's, a recent Asbury Park Press 2014 Reader's Choice Best of the Best winner, had revealed a new logo, store-front LED sign, and fleet of vehicles to the crowd.
Our goal with this sweepstakes, and the event as a whole, was to thank our customers for their continued business over the years, explained owner Carl Delpizzo Jr. Homeowners in the area have a lot of choices when it comes to choosing a contractor and the fact that they have put their trust in us is not something we take lightly. This was our opportunity to give back and the day couldn't have been better."

Thursday night games can be ugly, but the Packers should take care of business at Lambeau Field.
The Green Bay Packers offense finally settled in last week against the Chicago Bears, and now the Packers will face another division opponent on a short week, the Minnesota Vikings. Thursday may bring the Packers' first look at Teddy Bridgewater, a rookie quarterback who barring injury will make his second start following a strong debut versus the Atlanta Falcons. Bridgewater is officially listed as questionable with an ankle injury.
Weather could be a factor in the game as well. According to Weather.com, there's a 90 percent chance of rain. That could affect the passing games for both teams. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are a explosive aerial attack when they get rolling. Poor conditions could limit that success. Instead, the rushing attacks could become key parts to both attacks. For Green Bay, that means a heavy dose of Eddie Lacy. Minnesota is playing without Adrian Peterson, but the Vikings have found a solid tandem to fill in with Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon playing well in replacement duty.
Both teams are coming off arguably their best games of the year. Minnesota's victory against Atlanta, however, didn't appear to do much to sway the prognosticators in the Vikings' direction.
All seven of SB Nation's experts sided with Green Bay this week. The Packers have dominated the rivalry in recent years, posting a 4-1-1 record against the Vikings since the start of 2011. The Packers are 3-2 in Thursday night games during the last three years and will have a built in advantage this week. Since the NFL added Thursday night games on a weekly basis in 2006, home teams have had an overall advantage. The short week, plus travel is rough for a road team. Minnesota won't have far to travel, so the impact may be mitigated compared to other matchups.
The SB Nation NFL experts are the only ones siding with the Packers by a considerable margin.CBS Sports' experts all went with Green Bay, as did the crew over at Yahoo! Sports.

Coastal Bridge Construction workers resurface the Tiger Drive Bridge Friday. The bridge project is nearing completion.
The new Tiger Drive Bridge in Thibodaux is expected to open to the public more than a year after the old bridge closed.
The bridge replacement should be complete at the end of next week or beginning of the following week, project manager Devon Overall said Thursday.
The two-lane crossing is being replaced with a three-lane bridge that will allow drivers to make left turns onto St. Mary Street and La. 308 without slowing traffic.
Contractors were finishing laying asphalt on the bridge Friday. All that remains, Overall said, is to add guardrails and siding, stripe the road and set up rights of way.
If weather permits, the project should be finishing up by next Friday, he said.
The bridge closed Sept. 3 last year to allow Baton Rouge-based Coastal Bridge Construction to begin work.
City Council members approved the project in June of last year because of traffic-flow problems. While residents initially viewed the project as a necessary inconvenience, some had grown frustrated over the delays in the project.
Originally expected to be complete by June, crews have been delayed by weather and the delivery of pilings.

Nic Rogers found six dead pronghorn and five dead mule deer along a 45-mile stretch of fence in mid-August near Pinedale. Alone it doesnt sound like much 11 dead animals in populations of thousands, but the numbers add up, he said.
And their deaths werent pretty.
Most of them caught a leg trying to jump over a fence, or antlers trying to climb under. Then they stayed there until they starved.
The deer herd is already declining, and you have does dying in the fence, he said. You can extrapolate that out to how many fawns wont be produced the next year.
Most importantly, those deaths can be prevented, he said.
Thats why Wyoming Wildlife The Foundation, along with a handful of other groups and individuals and the Bureau of Land Management, started replacing 45 miles of fence recently on crucial pronghorn and mule deer winter range. It is one of the largest fence replacement projects in Wyoming and should be finished by 2015.
About 90 miles of fence cross whats called the Mesa, a swath of land near Pinedale home to one of the largest gas fields in country. Portions of the Sublette mule deer herd and numerous pronghorn populations cross the fence as they move from their summer to winter ranges and back again.
The line of fence is on Bureau of Land Management lands, but is the boundary between BLM operated land and land leased by ranchers. A total of 13 ranches lease the land on the Mesa, and are responsible for maintaining the fences, said Rogers, project coordinator for Wyoming Wildlife The Foundation, a component of the Wyoming Community Foundation.
The problem isnt fence is general; its fence that prevents animals from easily crossing.
Most of the fences were built a century ago. Theyre at varying heights some more than 4 feet off of the ground. Others have bottom wires only 6 inches off of the ground.

State pitches in for AeroTEC project -
September 24, 2014 by

MOSES LAKE - Recently allocated state funding will help the Port of Moses Lake prepare for the construction of AeroTEC's new 65,000 square foot, wide-body aircraft hangar.
The state Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) approved $1.4 million in public investment for jurisdictions across the state, including a $500,000 low-interest loan to the port. Other projects approved for funding include a $288,000 loan to the City of Lynden for the replacement of sidewalks, curbs and gutters and improvements to sanitary sewer lines and a $175,000 grant to the City of Airway Heights to construct a half-mile of rail siding and roadways.
The Port of Moses Lake will use the $500,000 to install water and sewer lines and a fire suppression system, move ramp lighting and place overhead power lines underground. The work will allow AeroTEC to move forward with the construction of their hangar at the Grant County International Airport.
Company officials announced in July they would be building the hangar at the airport to accommodate flight testing of Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation's new MRJ 90 airliner. The new hangar is the first privately-built large aircraft hangar at the airport, according to a previous Columbia Basin Herald article.
AeroTEC will be investing about $8 million in the project. The Port of Moses Lake is matching CERB's investment with $125,000 in local funds.
AeroTEC president Lee Human previously said construction on the hangar would likely start in October and finish by July.
AeroTEC anticipates to have about 80 to 100 employees on the ground during flight testing of the MRJ 90, a new, fuel-efficient commercial aircraft being built in Nagayo, Japan. The plane is scheduled to enter service in 2017.
CERB's latest investment of $1.4 million will support more than $19 million in local match and private investment dollars for projects that target job creation in the chosen counties, according to a state Department of Commerce news release. Since 1982, CERB has committed close to $168 million to communities across the state.
"CERB's public infrastructure investments help Washington compete for business while encouraging companies prepared to grow and expand," said CERB Chair Steve Anderson in a recent statement. "These projects play a vital role in our state's future job and economic growth."

GAF WeatherSide is a popular asbestos siding replacement choice.
Options were very limited in the past by siding makers such as GAF and James Hardie now make a wide range of new shingle siding that matches the wavy and scalloped profiles of many older asbestos siding shingles.
If your older siding is largely in good condition, you may now have the option of keeping it in place and replacing broken and cracked pieces potentially saving thousands of dollars.
Youll need to first decide what your goal is, as far as whether you want to remove all older siding and completely replace it or to instead selectively replace individual siding shingles.
Replacing all your asbestos siding will involve a much larger and costlier asbestos abatement effort, unless you opt to remove it yourself.
Laws and regulations vary by state as far as asbestos disposal requirements, so be sure to check to see what the process if for disposing of any asbestos siding that is replaced.
If you plan to replace your older siding with vinyl siding, encapsulating the asbestos siding and installing new vinyl siding on top of it is also a viable option.
Asbestos siding replacement costs can vary widely.
If individual siding pieces are being replaced, costs are easier to estimate. GAF WeatherSide fiber cement siding typically sells for about $150/bundle online, with a bundle covering about 33 square feet.
Asbestos siding replacement pieces from James Hardie and other manufacturers are similarly priced, and some online retailers offer free shipping or free pickup at local stores.

Did you know Habitat for Humanity has a home repair program? Since 2011, Habitat for Humanity has partnered with over a dozen homeowners in Archuleta County to assist with much needed repairs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
This program is bringing the community together by forging new partnerships, serving more people, and creating additional opportunities to volunteer and allow people to get to know their neighbors.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors partnerships have allowed for home improvements ranging from house painting to roof replacement. One of the earliest and most intensive undertakings was the leveling of a trailer home that required the replacement of several concrete slabs. Other projects have included replacement of damaged siding, replacing windows to enhance insulation and reduce loss of heat during winter months thus reducing utility expenses, repairing flooring that had been damaged by a minor flood, and replacing faulty plumbing fixtures. As with other Habitat for Humanity programs, the majority of the labor is conducted by volunteers.
To qualify for partnership with Neighbors Helping Neighbors, you must reside in the home you own and meet income guidelines. The population served generally earns between 20 and 60 percent of the area median income. Approved partners receive a zero interest, short-term loan. Partners are also required to perform a nominal amount of sweat equity hours, which can include performing some of the work on the home or providing lunches for volunteers. Habitat for Humanitys Neighbors Helping Neighbors home repair program follows the organizations mission of providing affordable and decent housing, but allows expansion of services to include greater partnerships in the community and safety for homeowners.
You can learn more about Neighbors Helping Neighbors at Loaves and Fishes on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parish Hall, located downtown on Lewis Street. You may also contact the Habitat for Humanity office directly at 264-6960 to apply for services, make a donation or inquire about volunteering.

WAREHAM The 100 apartments at Woods at Wareham will be improved and will maintain their designation as affordable housing for at least 15 more years as a result of $9.1 million in MassHousing loans.
With the new financing, the 17 residential buildings on the property will receive substantial renovation. Among the improvements planned for the property are new siding, windows, doors and roofs and porch and stair repairs, electrical and fire alarm upgrades and boiler replacement as needed, officials said in a news release.
The Woods at Wareham is owned by Riverview Village Associates in partnership with HallKeen Management, which has extended for 20 years the HUD Section 8 Housing Assistant Payment (HAP) contract on 78 of the apartments. Additionally, the state Department of Housing and Community Development has approved a new 15-year HAP contract for the remaining 22 apartments.
"The financing we were able to arrange with MassHousing will give new life to Woods at Wareham and enable us to provide much-needed affordable housing to its residents for many years to come," said David Carlen, president of Norwich Corporation and representative of the River View Associates general partner, in a statement.
The Woods at Wareham is located at 48 Swifts Beach Road. The 100 apartments are contained in 17 two-story buildings constructed in 1972.
