Romtec Continues Product Expansion with New Cabins - June 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Roseburg, OR (PRWEB) June 03, 2014

Romtec, Inc. continues to grow its product offering by now designing, manufacturing, and installing vacation cabins across the country. Romtec is a national market leader in the design and supply of public restrooms and multipurpose park and recreation structures. Now Romtec is also designing and providing vacation cabins as a new addition to its ever expanding product line of public use structures.

Cabins are a natural fit for the design expertise of Romtec. For every building, Romtec considers the particular needs of the project and creates floor plans and engineering documents to meet those needs. On paper Romtec offers four new cabin models, but through its established design-build process, there are limitless possibilities for configuring and constructing cabins for any outdoor venue. This process develops unique buildings and structures that are professionally designed and manufactured.

Each project we do is special, said Mark Sheldon, Vice President of Romtec. Cabins are the perfect product for Romtec because we first work hard to understand what our customers want. Then, Romtec develops each building with unrivaled attention to the details that make each project exceptional.

The cabins will benefit from this same Romtec process. Each cabin is designed as a standard structure. The interior and exterior of a cabin can then be designed with many construction options. These are options such as log siding, stone, shake siding, wood floor, tile, stucco, and more. The same process that has made Romtec successful at supplying restrooms, concession stands, showers, utility buildings, and more can now be used to get cabins.

Over the past few years, Romtec has had success applying its design-build process to a variety of new products. Most recently, the Sidewalk Restroom was developed and offered for the urban restroom market. Prior to that, hand-crafted log pavilions and kiosks were launched as new Romtec products. These all were very successful. The new cabins continue this pattern of product development that continues to help Romtec grow and develop more relationships with parks and communities across country.

Romtec, Inc. is a national designer, manufacturer, and supplier of pre-engineered restroom buildings, recreation structures, and other park utility structures. Romtec provides turnkey installation. Romtec, Inc. is a privately owned company founded in 1977. Romtec, Inc. is located at 18240 North Bank Rd. in Roseburg, Oregon. Romtec can be reached at 541-496-3541 or by visiting http://www.romtec.com.

Price, less maintenance is key for siding customers - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Deborah Neyens, correspondent

Ask professional remodelers, and theyll tell you an exterior replacement project is one of the most valuable improvements a homeowner can complete on a home.

Not only do new exterior siding, windows and doors add to a homes curb appeal and make a favorable first impression on visitors, they have a solid return on investment.

According to a 2014 cost-versus-value report published in Remodeling magazine, more than 70 percent of the cost to replace siding, on average, is recovered when the home is sold. Nationwide, a new steel entry door has an average payback of more than 96 percent of cost, while the cost-value ratio for new windows approaches 80 percent.

Brian Zumhof, owner-operator of Ideal Window, Siding and Doors in Marion, said many of his customers want all three of these projects done at the same time.

A typical exterior home renovation project may include a mixture of siding, natural or cultured stone, and shingles or shakes.

Designers and architects will tell you that three different textures and three different colors make for an attractive home, Zumhof said. Well create a palette for the house that is appealing to the eye.

Zumhof started Ideal in 1991 as a building materials supplier. Over the years, the company evolved into construction and remodeling, with installations now making up 60 percent of the business.

With the exception of stone installation, which is subcontracted to a mason, the company generally handles all the work on a project.

R&P Construction of Cedar Rapids also handles complete home exterior renovations, including siding, windows, doors and decks. Other than some gutter work that is subcontracted, R&P also performs all its own work, co-owner Paul Kaune said.

Fire spread quickly in Pavilion building even as firefighters poured water on the flames - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

After nearly an hour on scene in Pavilion yesterday, I told a chief things seemed under control and I was heading back home to my yard work.

At that point, the two-story commercial and residential structure at the corner of Ellicott Street Road and West Park Street looked fine. There was a faint whiff of smoke in the air, but no smoke showing and certainly no visible fire.

"You might want to stick around," the chief said.

A firefighter told me a few minutes later as he laid out hose from a tanker truck, "this could get really interesting really fast."

Later the chief would tell me, "see, my worst fears came true."

The origin of the fire was in the crawl space of the attic. An area covered in hard wood, spray-in installation and only 18 inches of space in any direction.

First Assistant Chief Sean Vogt said his crew was poking through the ceiling, trying to find the right access point to the smoldering fire and Le Roy's crew had punched a ventilation hole in the roof, then the fire took on a life of its own.

"If we we could have gotten up there, gotten our hose lines up there, wetted it down, maybe we could have saved a little more of the building, but with it going through the roof, it just flashed over on us too fast," Vogt said. "It was just rough."

Siding Installation on High – Video - June 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Siding Installation on High
I was wondering how I would ever get the siding up on the west gable end. I used a rope, a hook, and one helper to get the heavy sheets up 18 ft. in the air.

Barron Designs Announces a Variety of New Products, Best-in-Class Faux Building & Design Products Company to Debut New … - May 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Deer Park, NY (PRWEB) May 30, 2014

Barron Designs, a leading supplier of high-quality faux design products used by residential and commercial architects, will be officially debuting a number of new products in Chicago in June.

According to Steve Barron, President of Barron Designs (the parent company of FauxPanels.com and FauxWoodBeams.com), Kim Lewis will be on hand at their tradeshow booth to share creative tips about designing with textures amongst examples of their most popular stone panels, straight and arched beams and columns.

Some of the new products Barron Designs will debut in Chicago include: hundreds of new decorative strap choices for faux wood beams, including customizable options; over 40 new columns, including two-piece columns for a range of stationary and capped columns and larger one-piece columns measuring 16 x 16 and 20 x 20. Barron Designs will also be showcasing a number of new product advancements in their popular Wellington Drystack line, including new interlocking ends for better installation and finished look, 3 new colors (London Gray, Canyon and Washed Bisque) as well as fire-rated options. They have also recently added 5 new arched beam styles, enabling architects and builders more freedom with their designs and easier truss-building capabilities. Most of the new product options will be available to ship in the beginning of June.

Modern fake wood and stone veneer products look amazingly natural because they are molded from real wood beams and real stone and brick walls, and then hand painted to reflect unique, realistic color variations. The molding process captures a variety of natural features, including worm holes (on fake wood products) and weathering (on both wood and stone products). All faux materials are made of non-toxic, high-density polyurethane, which does not contain any harmful chlorofluorocarbons or formaldehyde.

Barron Designs has become an industry leader in realistic, easy-to-install stone veneer panels, columns and faux wood beams by delivering:

Architects often spec Barron Designs product for their commercial and residential projects because the inclusion of modern faux products lowers design and installation expenses without sacrificing style and aesthetics.

This Memorial Day Weekend, Make the Most of Outdoor Living Spaces - May 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Valley Forge, PA (PRWEB) May 23, 2014

The unofficial start of the summer season, Memorial Day is a time to kick back and relax in the backyard, swim in a newly opened pool, have a barbeque, and participate in outdoor recreation activities. Many homeowners also mark the holiday by firing up the grill, pulling lawn furniture out of storage and thinking about ways to spruce up the exterior of their homes.

CertainTeed Corporation, North Americas leading brand of building products, offers complete lines of decking, siding, roofing, railing, exterior trim and fence products to help homeowners create beautiful and lasting curb appeal, as well as sustainable and low-maintenance outdoor living spaces. To get the most out of your yard this Memorial Day, CertainTeed provides the following tips:

Gather around the fire There may be nothing as inviting as an open fire, which brings people together with storytelling and laughter. Fire pits can also serve as a focal point in an outdoor landscape design, and are a popular and relatively affordable way to create a central gathering spot in a backyard or patio. For larger spaces, a custom outdoor fireplace might be an option.

Prep the deck Transform a deck into an inviting space for entertaining by adding comfortable furniture and fun accessories, creating separate zones for grilling, dining, and lounging. Water features are also a favorite, adding interest and privacy while disguising unwanted background noise. In addition, shading features like an umbrella or pergola can keep the area cool and comfortable.

Energize the exterior Creating dynamic curb appeal requires exterior siding and roofing products that give a home its personality. Choose bright, primary colors to create a vibrant mood or incorporate warm hues and woodgrain textures for a cozy, rustic appeal. CertainTeed offers unsurpassed Freedom of Choice with a wide array of exterior building products in durable materials that are designed to mix-and-match with each other and feature authentic textures, versatile styles and rich color combinations.

Paint or replace your front door Speaking of the perfect hue, a pop of color on a front door with a fresh coat of semi-gloss can also make a homes entrance stand apart from neutral neighbors. Check for any homeowners association restrictions, then pick a color, grab a paintbrush and get painting. Be sure to prime first for extra durability.

Need help selecting the perfect color? Use online tools like CertainTeed ColorCoach that guide users through the product selection process by offering professional color theory, including tips, trends and palettes that work well together.

Be energy-conscious Products such as CedarBoards insulated siding, with custom-contoured foam backing can improve thermal performance of exterior walls. Or consider a sleek solar roofing system to generate electricity, like Apollo II, which can easily be integrated into either an existing roof or with the installation of a new roof that combines solar panels and asphalt shingles.

Create ambience with lighting Outdoor lighting can set the mood and create a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere after the sun goes down. Step and path lights improve safety and add visual appeal, and solar powered lights are an easy and affordable way to accent landscaping. Also, energy efficient LED lights dont attract insects like halogen lights.

Changes Coming To Uptown Amtrak Station - May 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

NORMAL - Traveling from Chicago to St. Louis, and vice versa, could soon happen in a flash. Amtrak is in the midst of a $100 million high speed rail conversion, and Uptown Normal is about to see some major changes to go along with that project.

"It'll be a change for them and I can't tell you how they'll perceive that, but I think it's an attractive fence and it does have a very, important safety aspect to it, said public works director Wayne Aldrich.

Throughout the next six months, Amtrak and IDOT crews will start making changes to the track and siding to be ready for faster trains, expected to race through the area.

By the fall the south platform wont exist anymore. That's so they can move the rails eight feet over to create more separation for the trains.

"The installation of platform rails and things like that for Normal mean that we're a focal point along this corridor from Chicago to St. Louis, said Aldrich.

And even with all of the changes and repairs...Aldrich says the station and at least one of the tracks should always stay open.

"They've told us at least at this point that this particular project, there's a way not to disrupt the train traffic," said Aldrich.

And as those major upgrades are put in place, Aldrich says riders can look forward to a more efficient and comfortable trip on the rails. If all goes as scheduled, Amtrak still hopes to have the project done by 2016.
