Promises made - 8 WEEKS later fulfilled
July 1st the siding was started. Told it would take 4 - 5 days to complete. We informed everybody we were going away the week of the 11th. "No problem it will be done by then." Still, the project was on going the week of the 18th. Not really a Problem. After the siding was complete, a few wires were left hanging, and some minor problems which the crew had to come back and fix them. The salesman called me to say he would talk to his boss and get me a discount because of all the problems. There was a pile of leftover material left in our driveway which was for the gutters so I thought. On July 25th, the gutters were installed in one day. They looked odd - seemed dirty, holes in places, just weird. Questioned the installers they said it was the way the siding was put up. I asked about the materials left - they said they had all the material they needed on the truck. I called customer service - "someone will call you. "Call did come "it will be taken care of." The Project Manager came by and looked at the gutters and agreed they were not installed correctly. He actually took pictures. Supplies were picked up middle of August - most of them. Still a small pile on side of driveway was left. Called again it will be picked up tomorrow. A week later it was. Finally Thursday, August 25, 2016, I got a call from someone saying a crew was at my house fixing the gutters. It does look nice finally. Customer service was excellent I called at least ten fifteen times during this whole ordeal. I called mainly because I could not get in touch with the Project Manager. Every time I called him, it went to voice mail and was told to try later. It was very frustrating to say the least. I was never given a discount.

There are a lot of factors that go into the final cost of installing siding. These include:
Some vinyl siding manufacturers recommend using a pressure washer once a year, while others advise against using pressure. Be sure to check with your manufacturer's instructions before using a pressure washer as the damage done will be permanent. You can rent a pressure washer from Home Depot for an average of $34 per day, making vinyl maintenance a relatively inexpensive task.
An easy DIY cleaning solution can also be used to clean vinyl siding throughout the year. The combination of 70% water and 30% white vinegar makes a great all-purpose cleanser that removes light mold and mildew stains. Use a soft brush to clean siding and avoid using anything harsh such as steel wool or other highly-abrasive scrubbers.
Engineered wood is another option for wood siding. Engineered wood is plywood or hardwood sheets made up of bits of wood bonded together with special resins and treated with insecticide and fungicide. It often comes pre-primed and ready to paint or already finished in a number of styles that mimic the look of real wood. Engineered wood is lighter and easier to install than traditional wood, making it a popular choice for DIY projects. The average total cost of installing engineered wood is $3,000-$5,000.
After installing engineered wood siding, the only maintenance that should be done is washing once a year with a power washer and possible repainting every 5 to 10 years. The chemical compounds in engineered wood helps withstand mold, rot, and prevent insects.
Bevel or clapboard wood siding is a traditional form of siding on homes. Some popular wood siding options include pine, spruce, cypress, and Douglas fir. These woods are economical and durable. Cedar and redwood are also great options since they naturally contain rot resistance. However, they are more costly than other wood options. The added upfront cost, though, could save you money down the road by preventing termite and other insect damage along with water damage.
The price of wood varies from year to year and by location. Here are some average prices for wood siding materials:
Unlike vinyl and aluminum siding, wood siding requires some additional maintenance. Along with washing siding annually using soap and water, wood siding needs to be treated every four to six years depending on the amount of snow and sun your area receives. This may require re-staining and/or re-painting. It is important to keep on top of wood maintenance to prevent rotting, mold, and insect damage. A complete refinishing job including clear finishes, semi-transparent stains, and re-painting will cost $2,000-$5,000 total.
James Hardie Fiber Cement is touted as a low-maintenance option for a wood-like appearance. It should be cleaned annually like aluminum, vinyl, and wood siding using soap and water (with or without a pressure washer). JamesHardie.com also offers a variety of maintenance products for your specific siding. In addition, any dents, chips, cracks, and other minor surface damage in James Hardie siding and trim products can be filled with a cementitious patching compound.

An investment in new home siding is one that will pay off for years to come.

Siding technology is continually moving forward. Improvements in environmental impact, energy savings, and regular maintenance, mean you, the homeowner, benefit in many ways. The durability of todays siding ensures your homes exterior will look great for many years to come.
Though there are several types of siding available today, vinyl siding remains the most popular. Highly affordable and stylishly transforming, vinyl makes a difference in your homes appearance and raises the bar on interior comfort, because of its insulating properties.
Traditional vinyl siding is anything but old-fashioned. Todays vinyl siding styles and colors will complement any home. The high-quality materials used in modern vinyl siding provide serious insulation, which youll notice immediately, both in your homes comfort and your next utility bill. Vinyl siding is more affordable than ever before, requires no painting, and no maintenance beyond the occasional spraying with your garden hose.
Winters can be very cold in Maryland and Virginia, and the cost of home heating has skyrocketed in the past decade. Installing vinyl siding can provide you with immediate energy savings. Your home is virtually wrapped in comfort, sealing out drafts and winters chill. Conversely, our areas summer heart wont seep into your home, robbing you of cool comfort, and spiking your cooling costs.
Of course, vinyl is just one option when it comes to siding your home. Cedar siding and cement compound hardy plank siding are just two of the popular alternatives to vinyl. While both are attractive, they are slightly more maintenance intensive than vinyl siding. Well-sealed siding means you can easily pressure wash to keep it clean, and, although both cedar and hardy plank are subject to fading and discoloration, they do keep their appeal for a few years before painting or staining is required.
Adding new siding to your home also gives you the opportunity to spruce up in a few other areas. Dominion Roofing specializes in exterior improvements and can also install new trim, update your eaves and soffits, and rakes. Why not improve your entire exterior, and gain additional insulating properties at the same time?

Hardiplank Siding Installation How To Install Hardiplank Siding
A lot is said about Hardiplank Siding and how wonderful it is. What is rarely discussed when a homeowner thinks about replacing their siding with Hardie Siding is the process of the installation.
When we visit with the HardieRepresentativeswho service our account, they tell us that nearly 90% of the phone calls that they get from homeowners having problems with their Hardie Siding is not due to the siding at all. In fact, the problems that they see and hear about are almost always due to improper installation by untrained installers.
Most of the problems that people experience with Hardiplank Siding in Houston is not even caused by the siding itself. It is usually caused by improper installation by inexperienced crews. With the recent problems in our economy there has been a spike in people that call themselves Professional Siding Contractors. While many of these people are good in their intentions, they lack the training and the proper equipment to install Hardiplank Siding the way the manufacturer requires.
We have actually worked for some unfortunate Houston homeowners who already paid someone to install Hardie Siding on their home and it was not intsalled properly and so it failed. If you do not install the siding per the manufacturers best practices and procedures you are likely voiding the warranty on your Hardiplank Siding without even knowing it.
The sure way to protect your investment in new Hardiplank Siding is to deal directly with an experienced, professional, preffered installer of Hardiplank Siding. Save On Siding has trained all their installers in the proper way to install and seal all Hardie Siding products. Intro
This product comes in 12-foot lengths. These steps show 8-1/4-inch-wide boards installed with 7-inch exposures; you can choose narrower or wider boards and exposures. Layout and installation are generally the same as for wood lap siding. Here are the differences:
-- At the bottom of the wall, there is a starter strip rather than a water table board. -- Because the material is very rigid, you can blind-nail the boards near the top, where the nailheads will be covered by the next course. -- Because fiber-cement expands with rises in humidity, the boards should be cut 1/4 inch short so there is a 1/8-inch gap at each joint.
Like wood siding, the ends should be coated with primer before you install them. Cutting calls for different techniques and tools but is not difficult.

There are very few home improvement projects that can have as large of an impact on curb appeal as new siding. Ever see old, rotted siding? Not such a pretty sight. There are a variety of types of siding available. Included in these are:
Wood siding: The advantages of wood siding are beauty, dependability and charm. The disadvantages are high maintenance and bug and animal infestations.
Aluminum siding: Aluminum siding is very low maintenance and comes in a wide range of designs and colors. It is designed to be weatherproof. Aluminum lacks the aesthetic beauty of wood siding. Some pre-finished painted siding has been known to fade, and denting is a common problem.
Vinyl siding: Vinyl siding is a low cost, low maintenance option. Vinyl siding comes in strips and can be sold in a wide array of styles and colors. Certain styles can mimic the appearance of wood shingles. Vinyl siding has been known to crack in cold weather or after receiving a strong impact. If its not properly installed, it could warp or buckle.
Cement fiber siding: This is the most recent development in residential siding. It is extremely durable, inexpensive and made from recyclable material. Being virtually maintenance free, it often has a warranty for up to 50 years. The drawback of cement fiber siding is that it is more expensive than the other siding options.
In years past, asbestos siding and fiberglass siding were popular. But these options have been replaced with the above mentioned home siding styles. When properly installed and well-maintained, siding not only improves the appearance of the home, but it also offers protection from damage for years to come.
