Cheika sheds tears for Phillip Hughes - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Australian rugby coach Michael Cheika was brought to tears by news of Phillip Hughes' death and says the Wallabies want to pay their respects at Twickenham this weekend.

Australian players will honour the late cricketer's memory by wearing black armbands in Saturday's Test match against England while officials confirmed on Friday a minute's applause would be held prior to kickoff.

"We just want to show that we care," Cheika said on Friday.

"Show respect to the family and maybe make people remember the man for another moment."

Hughes' shock death has hit the Wallabies squad hard, even for those like Cheika who didn't know him.

"I don't know why there's that connection for some reason," Cheika said.

"I suppose being in a professional sports game as well you can really identify with that.

"I've never met Phillip but when I heard about it I cried because there's something about it that touches you and how unfortunate it is.

"Any type of respect we can show, we want to do it."

Several Wallabies players had met Hughes and he took part in a cross-sport promotional photo shoot with Israel Folau, Matt Toomua and Nic White earlier this year.

Antiques Appraiser Sheds Light on "Treasures" - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) November 28, 2014

Most of the people attending a presentation by Ken Farmer of Farmer Auctions in Salem, Va. at Lake Prince Woods retirement community found out the prized possessions they had brought for appraisal had great sentimental value but wouldnt have made the cut to be on an Antiques Roadshow segment.

Farmer, well known for his expertise in decorative and folk art and his appearances on the PBS program over the past 20 years, talked about trends in buying and selling antiques. Broadly speaking the antiques market is down because the lifestyle of people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s doesnt include things like china, crystal, family furniture and other heirlooms that previous generations valued.

After the presentation Farmer appraised a number of items brought by those attending the program, including a 1953 electric guitar, a copy of George Washingtons will, a military ball program signed by Bob Hope, a Native American-made rug, and several pieces of china.

Several of the Lake Prince Woods residents in attendance jokingly said they had given away their most valuable items when they downsized to move to their current residence. Im glad I dont have all that clutter anymore, one person noted.

The homes at Lake Prince Woods have distinct floor plans designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Cottages, villas, and apartments offer generous space for active lifestyles.

Lake Prince Woods is a residential retirement community offering an array of lifestyle choices. Located in Suffolk, Virginia, the community is nestled among 172 lovely wooded acres bordering Lake Prince. As a continuing care retirement community, Lake Prince Woods offers residential living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing care. To learn more, visit http://www.lakeprincewoods.org.

Yampa Valley Data Partners sheds light on Northwest Colorado economics - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

For this holiday season, its Yampa Valley women who have the purchasing power.

Purchasing power or real dollar values refer to the value of dollars in a single year, according to Katherine George of Yampa Valley Data Partners.

Using real dollar values allows for comparison over a number of years.

In Moffat County, womens real dollar values increased by 15 percent between 2000 and 2012, according to YVDPs Regional Economic Forecast Fourth Quarter News. But Moffat County men lost about 10 percent in purchasing power in the same period.

Routt County men had a 13 percent decline in real wages and women maintained (did not gain or lose) their real wages in the same period.

Income inequality in Colorado and in the Yampa Valley explains much of the real wage value decline, the report said. Womens growing role in the labor force also has an effect on the numbers.

Income of the richest fifth of households increased in both Moffat and Routt counties.

The poorest fifth of households lost 15 percent in income in Routt County and the poorest fifth of households income in Moffat County gained 15 percent.

Changes in the past 25 years to corporate governance and financial regulation at the macro-economic level explain the income and wage gap between the richest and everyone else, the report said.

While purchasing power has taken a hit, unemployment numbers are more encouraging.

Brent sheds close to $1 ahead of OPEC meeting - November 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- One day ahead of a key OPEC meeting in Vienna, crude oil prices were in negative territory amid early Wednesday signs of static production levels.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh, who arrived early in Vienna, said his country was already producing below its capacity, so further cuts would be unfavorable for a country struggling to cope with sanctions targeting its energy sector.

Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries are working to shore up a market share in an era when U.S. dependence is plummeting because of the glut of oil from shale. Low prices mean less revenue for countries like Iran that rely heavily on export revenue.

"We need to speak to other [member states] and exchange views with them on how to deal with the situation," the Iranian minister said. "The most important thing for all of us is the unity and solidarity of OPEC."

The price for Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, shed more than 75 cents per barrel for the January contract to trade at $77.56 early Wednesday. That's down from the monthly average of $112 per barrel in July.

For non-OPEC members like Russia, oil prices could put pressure on an economy already reeling from sanctions pressure on its energy sector. But Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said he too didn't foresee a production cut from OPEC, saying such issues should be decided by the market.

Some analysts have said keeping prices low by keeping production levels static would squeeze U.S. shale output, where production is more expensive than elsewhere in the world. Last week, Jim Burkhard, vice president at IHS Energy, said in a statement to UPI oil production from the United States still increases in 2015 if oil prices drop below the $70 per barrel mark.

West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, was down more than 50 cents per barrel to trade at $73.53 for the January contract.

Campaign sheds light on deadly disease - November 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Loved ones share stories about pancreatic cancer

Ten years ago Betty Aldridge lost her husband to pancreatic cancer and she fears shes about to go through it again with another family member.

Betty Aldridge of Ottawa, Ont., founder and president of the National Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation, was in St. Johns on Wednesday. She gave a presentation at the Health Sciences Centre in the evening. Photo by Joe Gibbons/The Telegram

What are the chances? she says.

Pretty high when you consider the statistics 4,700 Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 4,400 will die in 2014, according to http://www.cancer.ca/en/cancer-information/cancer-type/pancreatic/statistics.

Visiting St. Johns from Ottawa, the founder of the National Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation is spending this week in the Atlantic provinces to try to raise awareness about the disease, which has a poor prognosis once detected.

Aldridge said her husband was a professional athlete with the Toronto Argonauts in the 60s and 70s and always took care of himself.

She said he was also a teacher who never smoked or drank.

Theres no early detection, no testing. Its pretty devastating. My husband died within six weeks of diagnosis, Aldridge told The Telegram Wednesday.

I not only lost my husband, but now my brother has it, she said.

Kuwait- Academic sheds light on 'efforts' to fight obesity - November 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

(MENAFN - Arab Times) ROME Nov 22 (KUNA): Spouse of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Italy Dr Sara Al-Rugayan has shed light at an international conference held here on problem of obesity in Kuwait affirming that it has become quite alarming. Dr Al-Rugayan speaking at the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) noted that the State of Kuwait devotes special attention to nutrition educating the public against unhealthy food intakes and enhancing their consumption awareness.

This conference is of particular significance for Kuwait which witnessed over the past decade an alarming hike in the number of citizens suffering from obesity particularly among teenagers 'regretfully placing Kuwait among the ten countries with the highest proportion of overweight citizens in the world.' Dr Al-Rugayan also an academic researcher invited to the convention as a representative of Kuwait said the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has worked out a plan to treat non-communicable diseases in harmony with the World Health Organization's program in this regard.

The national program has succeeded in coordination with the WHO in cutting salt proportion in locallymade bread and cheese by 20 percent. The MoH abides by the WHO guidelines regarding detailed specifications of ingredients in food particularly fast-food meals where detailed information should be available for the consumer regarding number of calories amounts of fatty ingredients and sugar.

Moreover the Gulf State has recently established 'the public authority for food and nutrition' charged with supervising nutritious products to ensure they meet international standards. It is high time that families be educated about healthy eating habits 'so we may set the good example for our children and intervene before obesity undermine their lives' she said noting necessity of feeding on homemade meals and increasing exercise to try contain the problem. In conclusion she cited a saying by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) advising against over-eating.
