No, the monster from the movie Tremors is not to blame. It is poor foundation planning.
Whether you are planning a DIY shed installation or hiring a shed installer, the foundation of sheds is important. After all, that is the surface that a shed will be resting on for many years to come. If you were to simply build a shed on top of soil, your shed would eventually look like this one on the left.
Before you make any foundation decisions for your shed, consult a local building inspector to determine what foundation you will need to build. The decision will be related to the height and size of your storage shed building. Regardless of the size of your shed, a building inspector needs to make sure that the storage building is up to code for your local area.
The simple answer is no. Smaller shedsof up to 8 x 6 do not need a foundation. Small sheds can be rested oncrushed stone with either treated wood foundations or concrete foundation blocks. Larger sheds will need to have strong foundations.
Concrete slab shown here
The best type of foundation that you can use for a shed is a concrete slab. In preparation for the shed installation, the site must be properly leveled and should have natural drainage and no standing water. This insures that the shed will remain strong and stable for many years to come.
Concrete Slab Requirements:
First stages of the flooring construction.
Use cement blocks for shed foundations
Wood foundations are typically built using solid cement leveling blocks which are 8 x 16 and no more than 2 high Each block is arranged in evenly spaced rows by placing one in each corner and at each break. These cement leveling blocks will support the floor of the shed. If cement leveling blocks are not used werecommendusing pressure treated lumber to support the wooden shed floor frame.

I started dreaming up this project in the summer of '09. I had quite a bit of lumber in my garage that I was saving for a future project and decided this was it. I wanted to build a carport but I needed more storage space so I started sketching up ideas and based on the material I had been saving, in come cases up to 5 years this is what I came up with. It had to be heavy duty, with stand high winds and earthquakes and It had to look good. Look good for me and my neighbors. I wanted the sheds to be low maintenance and the used aluminum roofing I used as the siding really made that happen. I bought 65 sheets of 28" x 10' for two dollars each back in 2006. I stored it for a long time and finally got tired of all the extra space being taken up so not only did these sheds free up space I have created tons of storage space in addition to a outdoor office man cave space to relax in and get away. I broke ground on November 1st, 2009 and put up the first shed on Dec 2Nd 2009. I had to work in between the rain storms so the roof had to be sealed. the second shed went up on January 10Th The carport didn't go up until June of 2010. It was a lot of work but Once I figured out what I was going to do in the building process I simply repeated the process so the second shed was basically a no brain-er. I hope you liked the video too, that took me 20 hours to put it together. .Behind the scenes LINK::: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfDWD-... ...........

Anthon fire destroys sheds, 300 bales -
December 30, 2014 by

ANTHON, Iowa | Authorities are still determining what caused a fire that destroyed several buildings and hundreds of bales at a rural Anthon residents Sunday evening.
Anthon Volunteer Fire Department chief Ryan Baldwin said the fire started in a machine shed at about 5:30 p.m. at 4029 220th St. It and the tractor and feed wagon parked inside were destroyed. The fire then spread to a cattle shed, garage/workshop and a hay shed. Those buildings, plus 300 cornstalk bales were destroyed.
Baldwin said a second hay shed containing about 300 hay bales was just catching fire when firefighters arrived. That fire was extinguished before it could damage the bales.
The fire did not spread to the owners' home. Baldwin said there was no estimate on the amount of damage, but that the owners have insurance. There were no injuries.
Anthon firefighters were on the scene for about 18 hours, Baldwin said. A total of 58 firefighters from the Anthon, Correctionville, Cushing, Danbury, Pierson and Healey Werks fire departments responded to the fire. -- Nick Hytrek

When a rapidly-growing cell divides into two smaller cells, what triggers the split? Is it the size the growing cell eventually reaches? Or is the real trigger the time period over which the cell keeps growing ever larger?
A novel study published online in the journal Current Biology has finally provided an answer to this long unsolved conundrum. And it's not what many biologists expected.
"How cells control their size and maintain stable size distributions is one of the most fundamental, unsolved problems in biology," said Suckjoon Jun, an assistant professor of physics and molecular biology at UC San Diego, who headed the research study with Massimo Vergassola, a professor of physics. "Even for the bacterium E. coli, arguably the most extensively studied organism to date, no one has been able to answer this question."
Finding a solution was more than a basic-science pursuit for the scientists, who pointed out that learning more about the triggers of cell division would enable researchers to better understand such processes as the runaway cell division that leads to cancer. To conduct the study, Jun and his colleagues developed a tiny device to isolate and physically manipulate individual genetic materials.
"It turned out that we can use this device to also follow the life history of thousands of individual bacterial cells for hundreds of generations," he said. "We looked at the growth patterns of the cells very, very carefully, and realized that there is something really special about the way the cells control their size."
"In our study, we monitored the growth and division of hundreds of thousands of two kinds of bacterial cells, E. coli and B. subtilis, under a wide range of tightly controlled steady-state growth conditions," said Jun. "This produced statistical samples about three orders of magnitude, or a thousand times better, than those previously available. We could thus pursue an unprecedented level of quantitative analysis."
The scientists found through their development of mathematical models that matched their experimental data that the growth of cells followed the growth law, essentially exponential growth based on a constant rate. But they also found to their surprise that cell size or the time between cell divisions had little to do with when the cells divided. Instead, to keep the distribution of different sized cells within a population constant, the cells followed what the researchers termed "an extraordinarily simple quantitative principle of cell-size control."
"Specifically, we showed that cells sense neither space nor time, but add constant size irrespective of their birth size," said Jun. "This 'adder' principle automatically ensures stability of size distributions."
"E. coli and B. subtilis are one billion years divergent in evolution, and they are the textbook examples of the diversity of molecular details for biological controls in different bacterial species. Thus, their sharing the same quantitative principle for size maintenance is a textbook level discovery."

SUPER svelte Michelle Gray says she feels like a new woman after shedding over SIX stone and dropping five dress sizes.
Michelles before and after shots show her incredible transformation.
The inspirational mum-of-three says she piled on the pounds through comfort eating to cope with the emotions of her job as a foster carer.
But she decided to change her unhealthy lifestyle after being encouraged by a friend to join her local Slimming World group.
The 41-year-old, who lives in Greenock, says she now feels better than ever after dropping from a size 22 to a 12 and is now on a mission to help other people lose weight.
Michelle said: I have always been really into my food, and not always the healthiest food.
Through fostering and the emotional ties that come with that, I sometimes found comfort in what I ate.
But after my 40th birthday last year, my friend encouraged me to come along to Slimming World and Ive never looked back.
Michelle was quite nervous about going along to the class but says she had no reason to be.

Members of the South-Asian community discussed the impact of immigration reforms during a recent forum sponsored by the Indian Business Association (IBA).
This was a very important seminar that we felt addressed a need in the community, IBA President Dhiren Amin said of the Dec. 18 event at the Mirage Banquet Hall, Oak Tree Road, Edison.
President Barack Obama unveiled his new immigration initiatives on Nov. 20, seeking to repair what he termed a broken immigration system.
Part of his plan provides deferred action or the ability to remain in the country temporarily to undocumented immigrants who have been in America for more than five years or have children who are citizens or legal residents of the U.S. To be considered for such status, one must register, pass a criminal background check and begin paying taxes.
The president also said he would step up border patrols to prevent new arrivals of undocumented individuals and will seek to deport those who break the law.
Most people woke up the day after the president announced the orders and asked, Whats next? Hopefully we answered some questions, Amin said.
To answer those questions, three speakers addressed the crowd, sharing insights and information.
Satish Poondi, an attorney with Woodbridge based Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, spoke about the goals and potential impacts of Obamas order.

British Railways shed codes were used to identify the engine sheds that its locomotives and multiple units were allocated to for maintenance purposes. The former London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) alpha-numeric system was extended to cover all regions and used until replaced by alphabetic codes in 1973.
The coding system had its origins in a reorganisation of locomotive operation and maintenance on the LMS in the 1933-35 period.[citation needed] It grouped all sheds into districts with a main shed, given the district number followed by the letter A as its code, and subsidiary sheds with the same number followed by B, C, or D etc. Many sheds were also responsible for sub-sheds where day-to-day servicing could be carried out but which lacked the facilities for intermediate or heavy overhauls. The extension of the system to all regions was brought into use in 1950, each region being given a block of district numbers:
Many codes changed as districts were re-organised and as regional boundaries changed over the years. For example, the former LMS shed at Goole was initially 25C as part of the Wakefield District. In September 1956 the district was transferred to the North Eastern Region and split between districts 53, 55 and 56; Goole became 53E in the Hull District. This district was itself merged with the York District in January 1960 and so Goole was re-coded again to become 50D. The changes accelerated with the contraction of the railway network and modernisation, both of which reduced the number of locomotives in use. For example, the Inverness district had five sheds and seven sub-sheds in 1950 but these had been reduced to a single shed by 1967.[1]
On 6 May 1973 all the remaining depot codes were replaced by new two-letter codes. These no longer included any kind of district hierarchy, but were more suitable for use with the TOPS operating management computers.[1]
Each steam locomotive was allocated to a particular shed and an oval, cast metal plate with the depot code was bolted to the smokebox on the front of the locomotive. When locomotives were transferred between sheds the plate was taken off and replaced with one from the new shed. Locomotives moved between a parent depot and its sub-sheds did not need this change as they shared the same code.
With the introduction of diesel and electric motive power the system of allocation became changed. Main line locomotives were capable of operating greater distances between servicing and, very often, depots only held the equipment and spare parts for servicing a limited range of locomotive classes. This resulted in them being allocated to a smaller number of depots and reallocations became less common. For instance, the 309 Western Region diesel-hydraulic locomotives 74 Class 52 diesel-hydraulics were only ever allocated to six depots.[2] This meant that many depots only had allocations of shunting locomotives, and some locomotives did not carry allocation plates. Those that did had them in a variety of positions: Class 42s on the underframe below the cab but near-identical Class 43s on the front next to the left buffer; after 1967 the code was generally painted on the bodywork near the cab door.[3]
The North Eastern became part of an enlarged Eastern Region in 1967, however the shed codes remained unchanged.
