Bombers Announce Additions to 2015 Coaching Staff
Ahead of the first official car launch of the year, Lotus has become the second team to issue images of its 2015 contender.
In a brief press release issued today, along with a number of renders of the car, Lotus CEO, Matthew Carter, introduced the car.
"The E23 Hybrid represents a new era for Lotus, not only in the change to a Mercedes Benz Power Unit, but also it is the fruition of a busy winter behind the scenes," he said. "Improvements within our Design, Aero and Simulation departments have all contributed to the development of a car which is a huge step forward.
"As a team we are confident that the new car coupled with additions to the Race team will enable a huge leap forward and we are full of optimism going into the new season. It is time to put the disappointment of last season behind us and benefit from 12 months of hard work; we are ready to return to our rightful place at the pinnacle of the sport."
"The E23 Hybrid represents a massive step forward for us," added Nick Chester, the team's Technical Director. "It's no secret that we struggled with last year's car so we've targeted every area that caused us an issue. We've made strong progress in the wind tunnel as well as in areas such as packaging and cooling. We expect the E23 to perform far, far better than its predecessor.
"In terms of what's new, obviously a massive change for us is a new Power Unit supplier. We made this change as it looked and looks to be the one area of the car which could bring us the greatest performance gain. It's not just performance, but reliability and driveability as well as packaging and cooling too. The E22 did deliver good figures in the wind tunnel, even if it was difficult to unlock its potential, so we've paid more attention to making the characteristics of the car more adaptable. In terms of the suspension, we were delivered something of a blow last year when the front-rear interconnected suspension was outlawed mid-season. The E23's suspension design is specific to the updated regulations so we're not trying to update a system originally intended to work a different way.
"We learnt a lot in many areas of the car over the course of 2014 so there are many lessons which have been applied. We know we've made a big step. We won't know how our car will fare in relative terms until we're out in action at a Grand Prix, but we certainly expect to be much more competitive than last year."

Lotus presents its 2015 challenger; the E23 Hybrid.
"It's very comparable to last year and within a few hundred people, so overall we feel good about the event," St. Peter said. "It's a much different event than TwinsFest back at the Metrodome. We have the capacity to add more people, but I always worry about that at Target Field because it doesn't necessarily accrue to the fans their experience there. But we were pleased with the support we received this weekend from our fan base."
St. Peter said the event will continue to be held at Target Field next year, but the Twins will potentially explore other options after that, as the new Minnesota Vikings stadium on the former site of the Metrodome will be built by then.
"We are happy at Target Field," St. Peter said. "We have received positive feedback for the most part from our fans, and particularly from our season-ticket holders. It's only the second year we've done it here and we're committed to Target Field again next year, but we intend to certainly evaluate this heading into next year's event."
More than 60 current, former and future Twins players were in attendance over the three days at TwinsFest with Torii Hunter being perhaps the most popular player. But fans were also excited about top prospects Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano, and had a chance to interact and get autographs from other popular players such as Joe Mauer, Brian Dozier, Ervin Santana and Glen Perkins, as well as new manager and Hall of Famer Paul Molitor.
Twins embrace fans' support on Day 2 of TwinsFest
Paul Molitor, Terry Ryan, Torii Hunter, Ervin Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Ricky Nolasco and Dick Bremer interact with fans on Day 2 of TwinsFest
"He's an incredibly popular part of our franchise," St. Peter said about Hunter. "It's a special time for our fans to have access to not only Torii, but our entire roster, including guys who are hopefully going to be a part of our future, such as the Buxtons and the Sanos."
St. Peter said he also sensed more optimism from fans at TwinsFest, but he was quick to point out the club has to prove it on the field after its struggles over the last four years.
"I think the core fan base is excited and has higher expectations than perhaps a year ago. But that said, I understand a lot of fans are going to take a wait-and-see approach. We need to get it done on the field. The Paul Molitor hiring and a couple additions this offseason and the understanding is that it's as deep as it's been in a long time; I think people generally think we have a bright future."

January 24, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) Battle Creek Bombers Battle Creek, Mich. - The Battle Creek Bombers have announced their first signings to the 2015 roster.
Dre Gleason and Cayce Bredlau, two 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans from Austin Peay State University, will debut with the Bombers this summer. In addition, four other All-Americans will be making their way to Battle Creek this season - giving the Bombers a total of six All-Americans on their Opening Day roster.Further information on these other players will be released in the coming weeks.
OF Cayce Bredlau (5'10", 190, Sophomore, Bats: L/Throws: L)
Bredlau was selected to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Freshman Team in addition to being named an All-American in 2014. As a staple near the top of the Governors' batting order, he led the team in on-base percentage (.444) and stolen bases (14), while ranking second with a .331 batting average. The lefty's bat picked up in OVC play, as he led the Governors with a .468 OBP and a .371 batting average during the 30-game conference schedule. While patrolling the outfield, he recorded just one error in 53 games, pacing the Governors. Bredlau also recorded 40 runs, 12 doubles, two home runs, and 21 runs batted in.
"Cayce's speed is unbelievable, especially in the outfield," Field Manager Robert Robinson said of Bredlau. "His range is some of the best in the country and that is going to be a huge asset for our pitching staff, especially at C.O. Brown stadium. At the plate, he finds ways to get on base and can use his speed to put himself into scoring position."
1B Dre Gleason (6'2", 210, Sophomore, Bats: L/Throws: R)
Gleason hit in the five-hole for much of his first season with Austin Peay. He launched four home runs, knocked in 29 runs, and recorded nine doubles, while starting 49 of Austin Peay's 56 games in 2014. He ranked second on the team in fielding percentage (.984), seven points behind Bredlau. Like his teammate, Gleason's offensive production also picked up in conference play. The Governor started all 30 games, batting .276 and hitting each of his four of his home runs against conference competition.
"Dre is a big, physical lefty with a powerful bat that will be critical in the middle of the order," Robinson said. "I expect him to have a great year on a young Austin Peay team and carry that momentum into the summer."
Bredlau, Gleason, and the Bombers' four other All-Americans start their summer at C.O Brown Stadium on May 26th, opening day of the Northwoods League season when the Bombers host the defending NWL Champion Lakeshore Chinnoks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Altuve has always said he believes the Astros are headed in the right direction, but the offseason additions of Pat Neshek and Luke Gregerson to the bullpen and Jed Lowrie, Colby Rasmus, Luis Valbuena and Evan Gattis to the lineup have him feeling especially optimistic for 2015.
"I think we have the team to go to the playoffs this year," Altuve said. "We have to keep working hard and get ready and start the season with a good feel."
Outlook: Altuve is top-notch speed and average source
Jose Altuve hit for a league-leading .341 average to go with 56 stolen bases in 2014 and is expected to put up similar numbers in '15
Altuve joined teammate Alex Presley and former Astros pitcher Brandon Backe during Friday's final day of the annual winter caravan for stops on the island, including a trip to meet a penguin and other wildlife at Moody Gardens. The players also signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.
"This is a good chance to spend the time with the fans away from the field and try to show people how we are on normal days," Altuve said.
Altuve is coming off a magical year in which he won the American League batting title, leading the Majors with a .341 batting average and a club-record 225 hits, smashing Craig Biggio's previous club record of 210 set in 1998. Altuve had the most hits by a second baseman since Charlie Gehringer had 227 for the Tigers in 1936, and he set the single-season hits record by a Venezuelan-born player. He also posted franchise records for multihit games (69), three-hit games (24) and singles (168), all of which led the Majors.
All that's in the past, though. Altuve is ready to turn his attention to 2015.
"I'm not thinking about numbers," he said. "I think about winning. I think about getting ready and getting to know my teammates, getting together and being on the same page and working hard and playing defense and swinging the bat. And win."

The Trinidad neighborhood in Northeast Washington, roughly bordered by West Virginia Avenue NE, Mount Olivet Road NE, Bladensburg Road NE and Florida Avenue NE, lies adjacent to the hip H Street corridor and not far from Union Market, a destination for D.C. foodies.
The quiet neighborhood of rowhouses and single-family homes reminds Andrew Rubin, a principal with the Rubin Group, of Glover Park in Northwest, particularly because most of the solid brick homes have front porches.
The Rubin Group recently converted an end-unit rowhouse at 1123 Staples St. NE into a condominium with three distinctive homes. Two of the units are already under contract. The Rubin Group has converted dwellings in Dupont Circle and Petworth into condos and built additions to expand those buildings to create additional living space.
This is our first project in Trinidad, Rubin said. Were very interested in this neighborhood because its changing so rapidly along with the adjacent H Street corridor. The coming of the streetcar should make this neighborhood even more appealing and will make it more accessible to the Union Station Metro station, too.
The first buyer at the Staples Street building plans to commute between home and a job at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., a journey that is expected to be simplified when the streetcar starts running.
We were careful to make sure that the home continues to complement the neighborhood, so we restored the front porch and the awning above the porch and even added some decorative elements that match one of the homes across the street, Rubin said.
The company restored the bay window along the side of the house and added a three-story box bay window. In the back is parking for three cars.
Ample storage: The conversion of this rowhouse resulted in three condos, each with 1,100 to 1,350 square feet and an individual layout. Two of the homes are two-level units, while the upper level is a one-level home with an expansive private roof deck.
All the units have two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an open floor plan in the living area, high ceilings and maximized lighting from windows. Designer Mimi Tygier, a principal with the Rubin Group, was careful to add storage space and closets in every possible place in each unit along with a closet with a full-size stacked washer and dryer.

BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP)s second-quarter iron ore output gained 16 percent as the worlds biggest mining company continued to raise production amid a price slump.
Output of the steelmaking raw material rose to 56.4 million metric tons in the three months ended Dec. 31 from about 48.7 million tons a year earlier, Melbourne-based BHP said today in a statement. That missed the 58 million ton median estimate of three analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Petroleum production rose to 63.6 million barrels of oil equivalent, beating a median forecast of five analysts of 61.8 million barrels.
We are reducing costs and improving both operating and capital productivity across the group faster than originally planned, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mackenzie said in the statement.
The largest iron ore suppliers, led by Vale SA (VALE5) and Rio Tinto Group, are raising output even as weaker growth crimps demand in China. While the producers forecast higher cost competitors will curb output, UBS AG and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. estimate that the global surplus will grow on supply additions from Australia and Brazil.
BHP, the biggest overseas investor in U.S. shale, plans to cut the number of active rigs in its U.S. shale unit by 40 percent by July in response to falling oil prices, Mackenzie said in the statement.
Though iron ore and oil prices are lower, BHPs cash flow is sufficient to cover planned increases to its dividend, Morgan Stanley analysts led by Brendan Fitzpatrick wrote in a Jan. 20 note. It is some years before sufficient cash would be accumulated on the balance sheet to make additional returns, the analysts wrote.

WASHINGTON -
It was a reunion eight years in the making. Earl Johnson III reclaimed an urn holding the ashes of his father Earl Johnson Jr.
It's amazing, Johnson said as he received the urn. It really is. I'm speechless because this was a chapter that was lost and finally we got him back.
It is the end of a mystery Kate Justice has been trying to solve for a long time. She found the urn in a box that didn't belong to her while unpacking from a move to her mother's home in South Dakota back in 2007.
I contacted the moving company obviously right away and sent pictures of the urn along with it, she said. Never a peep back from them. Not a thing.
Justice's mother held onto the urn after she moved back to Portland, Ore. The family even called the room where they kept it as Earl's room.
I had people say, Why don't you just scatter him at this point or toss it?' said Justice. I couldn't do it. If it were my loved one, what would I want? I don't know. It just didn't feel right to me and my family, and we were willing to hold on to him and keep trying to find where he was supposed to be.
Documents inside the box had a Maryland address. After trying several other things, this year, she thought to email us here at FOX 5.
We attempted to track down Johnson's family. There was no forwarding address left at the Hyattsville, Md., home where they had lived.
But within less than 24 hours, a viewer who saw our story and knew Johnson helped us piece it all together.

Dozier also provided solid defense at second base to win the club's annual Defensive Player of the Year Award, and finished fifth among all second basemen in Wins Above Replacement (WAR), according to Fangraphs.com.

But Dozier, who is representing the Twins on their annual Winter Caravan throughout the Upper Midwest this week, isn't ready to rest on his laurels and believes he can be even better in '15.
"I think last year, individually it went good, but there's always room to improve on a lot of different things," Dozier said. "So for me, I've said this a million times, but to be a guy at the top of the order you have to get on base. It's essential."
After playing in 147 games in '13 and 156 games in '14, Dozier has adjusted his offseason workout regimen. He used to start baseball activities in November, but pushed it back until after the New Year this offseason.
Dozier remained active, playing plenty of golf and hunting in his native Mississippi early in the offseason, while starting his workout program in November. He also found time to make themission trip to Nicaragua for a second straight offseason, and celebrated his one-year anniversary with his wife, Renee, there in early January.
"It was good," Dozier said. "Last year, we dug trenches for their water, but this year was totally different. We did concrete and nailing in boards and things like that to help build a school. So it was completely different, but every time you go down there, you come back with a feeling I can't describe."
After attending the Twins Caravan, the Diamond Awards and TwinsFest this weekend, Dozier will head back to Mississippi before heading to Fort Myers, Fla., for Spring Training in mid-February.
