Romance with Richard Gere is very mature in 'Marigold' sequel: Lillette Dubey - March 22, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

New Delhi: She was seen as a domineering mother in 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' but for its sequel actress Lillete Dubey has shed her over-bearing image and will be seen romancing Hollywood heartthrob Richard Gere.

The 61-year-old actress, however, says the romance between her character Mrs Kapoor and Gere in "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is not the head-over-heels,teenagers-like love story but mature and subtle.

"The romance with Richard happens within the framework of my character. Just because an attractive guy like Richard Gere is showering her with attention it is not going to set her swooning and falling madly in love. She is not a young teen, she is a mature woman, who despite losing her husband has been on her own terms and managed on her own. That sort of a woman is not going get into a childish romance," Dubey told PTI.

Lillete Dubey will be seen romancing Hollywood heartthrob Richard Gere in 'The Second Best Marigold Hotel'.

"But she is no longer that domineering mummy. Something more develops for her character. People will know that she has a vulnerable side," she added.

After the success of the first film, original stars Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Ronald Pickup, Celia Imrie, Tena Desae, Dev Patel and Dubey return for the sequel, which released today, along with new additions Tamsin Greig, David Strathairn and Gere.

Dubey said that there were no apprehensions about joining the second film directed by John Madden as her role is meatier and better sketched than the original movie. Besides that she did not want to lose out on working with acting greats like Dench, Smith and Nighy again.

"As an actor before signing a movie, you want to know how big your part is and if you have something new to do. This opportunity was presented to me in 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'. I love John Madden. I am a huge admirer of Maggie and Judi as actresses. Bill Nighy is a rock star. It is such an amazing cast," the actress said.

Dubey, who has starred in acclaimed films like "Zubeidaa", "Monsoon Wedding", "My Brother Nikhil", "The Lunchbox", said even though the film consists of an older cast, it is not meant for an elderly audience as the theme of hope and possibilities is universal.

"I think the the film is very cute. I don't see it as a film only for old people. It is a story of hope, possibility, there are so many sub-themes. It would be injustice if we say that it is a film only for mature audience of the age of 60 and above," she said.

New Additions Spark Saints in 3-2 Win over Team USA U-17 - March 22, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

March 20, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Dubuque Fighting Saints DUBUQUE, IA-Seamus Malone scored the game-winning goal and new additions Robby Jackson and Hayden Shaw played key roles to lead the Dubuque Fighting Saints to a 3-2 victory over Team USA U-17 in front of 2,522 fans at the Mystique Community Ice Center Friday night. The Fighting Saints earned its first win against Team USA in the club's final meeting of the year.

After a goal by Team USA's Patrick Khodorenko 8:23 into the game put the visitors up 1-0, Dubuque quickly found its game and ended the first period with a lead. Brian Bowen scored his 4th goal in his past five games at 13:09 to tie the game, 1-1. Off a faceoff win by Dylan Gambrell, Brett Boeing moved the puck to Bowen on the right wing. The forward lifted a shot past the glove of USA goaltender Joseph Woll to score his 16th goal of the season.

Dubuque would take the lead on a power play late in the period. Hayden Shaw appeared to score his first goal as a member of the Fighting Saints on a wrist shot from the left point. The referee disallowed the goal initially, believing a Dubuque player had knocked the puck in with a high stick. After a conference between all three officials, the goal was determined to be valid and Shaw was credited with the tally that tipped off a USA defender. Willie Knierim and Jackson assisted on the goal.

It would be again be Jackson factoring in during the game's second period. The newly acquired forward struck for his second assist of the game, setting up Seamus Malone's 17th goal of the season at 7:17. Keegan Ford made a fantastic play at the left point, jumping in front of Team USA's Joey Anderson to keep the puck in the zone. He fed Jackson behind the net, and the forward made a perfect pass to Malone in the slot. Malone connected on a one-timer to give Dubuque a 3-1 lead.

Keegan Howdeshell scored for Team USA U-17 at the 3:44 mark of the third period to cut the lead to just one goal, but following the goal, Team USA was unable to generate much offense. Playing with only three forward lines, Team USA mustered just three shots on goal in the final frame.

Dubuque goaltender Jacob Nehama earned his 23rd win of the season by stopping 14 shots. Dubuque outshot Team USA U-17 37-16 on the evening.

The Fighting Saints visit Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup rival Cedar Rapids tomorrow night for a key game. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on Super Hits 106.1. Adobe adds fewer-than-expected Creative Cloud subscribers, shares fall - March 18, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

The company's shares fell nearly 4 percent in after-hours trading .

Photoshop maker Adobe Systems Inc reported a lower-than-expected rise in subscriptions for its Creative Cloud software suite and forecast a second-quarter profit that missed the average analyst estimate.

The companys shares fell nearly 4 percent in after-hours trading on Tuesday.

Adobe said it added about 517,000 Creative Cloud subscriptions in the first quarter, compared with the 573,000 net additions that analysts were expecting, according to research firm StreetAccount.

The Creative Cloud offering includes Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash software.

The company forecast an adjusted profit of 41-47 cents per share for the second quarter, below the average analyst estimate of 48 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Adobes revenue forecast of $1.13 billion-$1.18 billion was also largely below the average analyst estimate of $1.18 billion.

If you go back and look at the last several quarters, they have given conservative revenue and earnings guidance and tend to end up beating what that lower bar is, FBR Capital Markets analyst Samad Samana said.

Adobe is switching from traditional box licenses to web-based subscriptions for its Creative Cloud software bundle to help attract more predictable recurring revenue. Online subscriptions let customers access the latest software versions for a monthly payment.

Browns sign cornerback Williams, defensive lineman Starks - March 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Browns began the second week of free agency by plugging two holes opened in Week 1.

Cleveland signed cornerback Tramon Williams and defensive lineman Randy Starks on Monday, additions to offset the losses of cornerback Buster Skrine and pass rusher Jabaal Sheard - two recent free agency defections.

After Skrine signed with the New York Jets, the Browns hit the market and were able to land Williams, who spent the past eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Williams bolsters a defensive backfield featuring three Pro Bowlers: cornerback Joe Haden and safeties Tashaun Gipson and Donte Whitner.

Its going to be awesome, Williams said. Ill be glad to join those guys and help those guys with whatever they need. I see where these guys are going and I think I can help them go to where they want to go. They had a great defense last year with a lot of young guys on the team. Im a veteran guy and I hope I can take them to another level.

The 6-footer has been durable, missing just one start in the past five seasons. Since 2007, only elite cornerback Darrelle Revis has more passes defensed than Williams 115, and only Haden has more passes defensed since 2010 than Williams 82.

Tramon is a really good and consistent player, Browns general manager Ray Farmer said. He has had success in this league because hes a pros pro who believes great preparation leads to great performance. We are very happy to be able to sign a player of his caliber to our secondary.

While the Browns still believe Justin Gilbert, a first-round draft pick in 2014, can rebound from a rough rookie season, Williams is a proven player. He had nine interceptions in 2010, including three in the postseason to help the Packers make the Super Bowl.

Tramon is an experienced, versatile and productive corner that has played at a very high level throughout his entire career, Browns coach Mike Pettine said. He is a good fit for any defense because his impressive ball skills have made him an accomplished playmaker. He can play man, press or play off and be successful.

Those are attributes that are very important for our defensive backs. Tramon is a high-quality person who comes from a winning tradition and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our team.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, the 31-year-old Starks was released by Miami last week after seven seasons. He had 4 sacks last season and 41 during his NFL career.

NCAA tournament abounds with great story lines - March 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Home | Back

March 16th, 2015 8:00 am by JOHN MARSHALL, AP Basketball Writer

The NCAA tournament field is set and everyone will be trying to end Kentucky's bid to become the first team to go undefeated in 39 years.

The Wildcats are clearly the big story, but with 68 teams playing over three weeks from Seattle to Jacksonville, there's plenty of other reasons to tune in as March Madness kicks into full gear.

So now that the bracket is complete, it's time to run down some of the best matchups, surprises and potential upsets to keep an eye out for in the lead-up to the national championship game in Indianapolis:

TOP MATCHUPS: You want to see muscle on muscle, Louisville vs. UC Irvine should be a good one. Cardinals powerful power forward Montrezl Harrell against the Anteaters' 7-foot-6, 300-pound center Mamadou Ndiaye will be a heavyweight bout.

Both teams need to win their opening games, but Kansas against Wichita State in the round of 32 would be one of those must-see games. The Jayhawks will not play the mid-major monster Shockers during the regular season and the entire state of Kansas may be in Omaha if those two teams get through.

Keep an eye on Virginia Commonwealth and Ohio State in Portland on Thursday. That's when the Buckeyes' dynamic scorer D'Angelo Russell faces the Rams' Havoc defense.

Not to get too far ahead, but a Wisconsin-Arizona final in the West Region could be epic. The Badgers survived a last-second shot to beat the Wildcats in overtime in last year's West final.

TOP PLAYERS: Duke's Jahlil Okafor has been one of the nation's best players all season and figures to be headed to the NBA after one season, so he's going to be motivated to play well.

THE RATIONAL ARGUMENTATOR Review of Robert Wilfred Franson's The Shadow of the Ship

The Shadow of the Shipby Robert Wilfred Franson is a science-fiction novel set in a universe with a unique premise for methods of interstellar travel. A novel with strong individualist and life-extensionist themes, this book has much to recommend itself to libertarians and transhumanists alike. The Second Edition ofThe Shadow of the Shipwas released in Kindle format in December 2014, after Franson regained the rights to the work from the publisher of the 1983 First Edition. The Second Edition contains major enhancements, including more extensive character development, explanation of key aspects of the world within which the novel takes place, and an ending that clearly sets the stage for additional books in what is to be Fransons Overflight series.

Space travel inThe Shadow of the Shipis accessible to a society that is otherwise technologically far behind our own. The Trails Culture is dispersed among tens of worlds but lacks access even to most twentieth-century technology, such as powered flight or electricity. A series of trails across the meadow of subspace connects planets and can be traversed by caravans conveyed by waybeasts (squeakers) who are uniquely suited to crossing them. The books protagonist, Hendrikal Eiverdein Rheinallt, is originally from Earth and has been stranded within the region inhabited by the Trails Culture ever since his spaceship crashed on a nearby world. He and his friend Arahant, an intelligent aircat with the ability to speak and compose operas, are bloodswayers practitioners of a rare and challenging discipline that allows the channeling of the bodys energies toward repair and rejuvenation. Rheinallt and Arahant are therefore indefinitely lived and more resilient than ordinary humans, though not indestructible. Rheinallt is approximately six centuries old and endeavors to use his vast scientific knowledge to eventually find his way back to Earth. In the meantime, he carefully advances the scientific and technical knowledge of the inhabitants of the Blue Free Nation, the most tolerant and least regimented of the societies within the Trails Culture.

The books events take place aboard a caravan headed by Rheinallt with the purpose of investigating rumors of a crashed starship along the Blue Trail. The starship would be a paradigm-changing find for the people of the Trails Culture, as it would permit space travel without the limitations that the Trails pose; it could also be Rheinallts means to return home. The caravan includes many travelers who join out of scientific curiosity or a desire for fame, while others have more personal motives. Accompanying Rheinallt is his wife and beast-master Whitnadys, as well as a small contingent of crew to defend the caravan and provide essential logistical support. Although Rheinallt is the captain of the caravan, interactions aboard are largely guided by a spontaneous order without explicit laws and with virtually no authority for the captain to impose preemptive restrictions or discipline. Rheinallt, apart from making sure that the caravan is properly organized and maintained, only has the same prerogatives as ordinary passengers such as the right of self-defense and the ability to protect the caravan against threats that have already manifested themselves. He considers the circumstances carefully and is reluctant to resort to force unless the existence of a physical threat is incontrovertible, as he does not wish for the passengers to lose trust in his leadership or the legitimacy of his decisions.

The more positive examples of protagonists with unlimited lifespans arise in fiction, the greater will be the cultural acceptance of the ideas eventual application to our world. For this reason and many others, readers should eagerly anticipate the continuation of Fransons Overflight series.

Apart from the mostly anarchistic order aboard the caravan a reflection of the broader lack of centralized authority within the Blue Free Nation there are competing visions presented in the book, including an attempt by the Federated Trailmen, the areas guild of caravaneers, to bring subspace travel within their sphere of control, as well as the efforts by the government of Fleurage a world on the Yellow Trail to clamp down on political dissent and quash subversive innovators who threaten an establishment rapidly spiraling toward totalitarianism. Various passengers on the caravan represent these conflicting visions, which come to challenge Rheinallts ability to peacefully coordinate the expedition.

As much of the novel centers around the mystery of the ship and the stories of the passengers aboard, I will not delve into too much detail regarding events that are crucial to the storys suspense and surprise. I note, however, that the Second Edition contains significant additions, including thorough expositions of the main characters backgrounds and key aspects of Fransons universe such as subspace travel, the bloodswayer discipline, and the cultural and technological environment of the Trails Culture. The newly added content allows for foreshadowing of important discoveries and a more definitive elaboration on the threads of the story that would be continued in subsequent novels of the series. Furthermore, the revised ending is quite moving and immerses the reader more deeply into the novels characters.

Indeed, the characters of Rheinallt and Arahant should be of interest to all supporters of indefinite life extension, as here we have fine examples of literary protagonists who do not senesce and are not condemned to an inevitable demise and who are also intelligent, rational, benevolent, witty, creative, and resourceful. Their range of abilities and vulnerabilities is much closer to what actual indefinitely lived organisms would experience: they can still suffer from accidents and external physical harm, but they lack a built-in expiration. Therefore, their interactions in the environment of subspace are still fraught with peril, but they have sufficient abilities and strengths to give them a fighting chance much like the fighting chance we humans will need when faced with the many phenomena in the universe that are far bigger than ourselves. The more positive examples of protagonists with unlimited lifespans arise in fiction, the greater will be the cultural acceptance of the ideas eventual application to our world. For this reason and many others, readers should eagerly anticipate the continuation of Fransons Overflight series, which will finally bring the universe and ideas ofThe Shadow of the Shipinto renewed prominence after more than three decades.

Russell Martin's 2015 Impact Potential Is Key Under-the-Radar Story - March 14, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Lynne Sladky/Associated Press

When Marcus Stroman's knee went, it didn't take the Toronto Blue Jays' playoff hopes with it.

Stroman is a key cog in the Jays' rotation and the news that the 23-year-old right-hander is out for the season with a torn ACL was a painful blow, no doubt.

Toronto can weather this storm, though, thanks to a guy who won't throw a single pitch in 2015: Russell Martin.

Whatever route the team takes to fill the Stroman-sized hole on its roster, Martin will be the glue that holds the whole thing together. That's why the Blue Jays snatched up the Canadian-born catcher, inking him to a five-year, $82 million deal before Thanksgiving.

It was the biggest free-agent payday ever awarded ongeneral manager Alex Anthopoulos' watch, though it was quickly overshadowed by the blockbusters that followed elsewhere.

Martin, however, could prove to be among the most important offseason additions, under-the-radar or otherwise, for any team.

Yes, he's coming off the best offensive season of his career, during which he hit .290 with 11 home runs and a gaudy .402 on-base percentage for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Yes, he's among the game's elite defensive backstops, the 10th-best pitch-framer in baseball, perStatcorner, and a guy who gunned down an MLB-leading 37 would-be base stealers, perESPN.com.

And, double yes, the Jays are hoping he can replicate those numbers north of the border.

Nashua fire leaves 10 displaced - March 14, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

NASHUA Two dogs died and one was rescued by a local firefighter during a two-alarm blaze that left 10 people displaced on Thursday.

Fire crews responded the 2 story home at 11 Ridge St. shortly after 1 p.m. to find smoke billowing from the multi-unit apartment building.

The fire took some time to get under control due to the building construction, said Deputy Fire Chief Karl Gerhard. It was an older building, and it had undergone extensive renovations and additions.

There were very narrow stairwells and hallways that made it challenging for firefighters, as the blaze traveled quickly through the walls and created numerous hot spots, Gerhard said.

There were four adults and two children in the house when the two-alarm fire broke out, but all of them had gotten out by the time firefighters arrived, said Gerhard.

The occupants of the home were evaluated by medics, but none required medical assistance. No one was injured in the fire.

A firefighter was able to rescue one dog, although two others died.

The fire appears to have originated in the basement, said Gerhard. It traveled to the first level of the house and to a few spots within the second floor.

The cause has not yet been determined. The city fire marshal remained on the scene Thursday evening to investigate the incident.

Fire officials said they would be returning to the home frequently throughout the night to ensure that all of the hot spots have been extinguished.
