‘Frozen’ hotel room really hot - January 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

If want to sleep like Anna and Elsa in the hit movie "Frozen," here's your chance.

Quebec Citys famed Htel de Glace has revealed the first look at its exclusive, limited Frozen-inspired suite.

Created entirely out of sculpted ice and snow, the Frozen Suite is modeled after the two sister's bedrooms from the hit Disney animated film. The stay will also include time in a Frozen Activity Cave.

Frozen mania has taken hold for those wanting to delve deeper into the Disney story based on Hans Christian Andersens winter myth The Snow Queen.

Last month, Adventures by Disney announced a new Norway itinerary inspired by the film. The eight-day itinerary includes visits to Bergen, the real-life inspiration for the kingdom of Arendelle in the movie, a safari through Fjord Country, time to explore the capital city of Oslo, a raft trip down a river in Voss, and a visit to the stave churches that inspired the films architecture.

Already there are rumors that they're might open a Frozen-inspired attraction at Norway in Epcot Center and Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted that Frozen may inevitably head to Broadway.

Frozen has also scored two Oscar nominations, one for Best Animated Feature, and another for the films musical showstopper Let It Go.

The suite will be unveiled this weekend and remain open through March 23.

Emergency room wait times: How long will you wait to see a doctor at your hospital? - January 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) An emergency room is a destination for people with an urgent medical condition.

But some hospitals provide doctors on average more promptly than others.

The Federal Government recently released the wait times people can expect in emergency rooms throughout the country.

Among Central New York hospitals, patients can expect the shortest wait times at Crouse Hospital, whereas patients who go to St. Josephs Hospital Health Center will likely wait more than an hour:

In addition, they say the new emergency room facilities have altered their workflow and that the staff is learning how to use the new space more efficiently.

Changed the footprint completely. But when you change a footprint, you have to do different work flows. You have to learn how to manage the space differently, said Dr. Sandy Sulik at St. Josephs.

Crouses facility is decades old, despite being the most efficient. Staff say Crouse will soon feature improved emergency facilities.

We were originally, two years ago, at like 76 minutes. We've redesigned our entire front end process from the time when you enter to the time you see a provider to be as quick as possible to get the work up and care started, said Dr. Michael Jorolemon at Crouse.

More information is available on the Medicare website.

High-tech Allen County-Fort Wayne 911 call center to open Feb. 4 - January 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

FORT WAYNE City-county dispatchers who are now crammed into a basement room of the Rousseau Centre are poised to move in three weeks to the sixth floor, where brand-new digs await them.

About 75 dispatchers and support staffers got a sneak preview of the new Allen County-Fort Wayne 911 call center, and many brought their families with them, Executive Director Tim Lee said Tuesday during a separate tour for the media.

Employees working in the 5,600-square-foot section of the basement will report to the new center Feb. 4.

One of the unique features of the new call center is that the staff helped design the 8,400-square-foot dispatch room.

Anytime departments are consolidated, there is a lot of animosity and strife, and we tried to counter that by getting everyone involved in the design, Lee said.

Besides offering spectacular views through the shatter-resistant, wall-to-wall windows, the emergency center offers 25 dispatching stations with room for expansion.

Standard staffing is about 13 to 15 dispatchers, but we now have the ability to ramp up if necessary, Lee said.

In addition, if other county centers such as New Haven or the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority have a system failure, a dispatching station could be set up with locale-specific coordinates in a matter of minutes, Lee said.

Gone also is the separation of city and county police and fire dispatching.

All city and county police and fire functions are located adjacently in the large open room, eliminating the past practice of dispatchers having to call from one room to another to communicate with each other.

Music room construction set to start at City schools - January 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tonawanda News Renovations on the Tonawanda Middle and High Schools music rooms could begin this week as part of the districts nearly $12 million endeavor, capital project managers told the school board at Tuesday nights regular meeting.

We met with the contractors at a kick-off meeting, but we havent received the contracts back yet, Gloria Ciminelli, of Pike Co., said. Once we get them, construction will begin.

Earlier in January, the board held a special meeting to approve the bids for the project to ensure construction began on time. The renovations were set to begin today, Ciminelli said.

The bids were very successful, we were under budget and it will allow us to start on time, she said.

The district originally planned to complete additions at the school for the two rooms, but the bids for that portion of the project came in more than $600,000 over budget.

The board then decided to renovate the two rooms instead of completing the expansion. The work will include raising the roof of the band room and expanding the width of the choral room to provide more space and better acoustics.

But change in plans meant the projects architectural firm, Wendel, had to go back to the drawing board and prepare an addendum for state Department of Education approval. The addition was initially set to be complete in November.

Once construction begins, the demolition of the choral room will take place first, and temporary enclosures will ensure the safety of students. Demolition of the band room will take place next.

When the weather breaks, in mid-March, well take the band room roof off. Thats a major part of this project, Ciminelli said.

The work will be complete by the end of June.

EverSense introduced at CES its new ‘Aura’ iBeacons for room temperature control - January 13, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Eversenses add-on to their existing thermostats uses Apples Bluetooth iBeacon technology to intelligently regulate room temperature.

Jan 13 2014, 8:16am CST | by Bijon Kumar Pramanik

Auras are small iBeacons that will soon become an addition to the EverSense smart thermostat. It will allow iBeacons to sense nearby iOS devices and adjust the room temperature accordingly. After the setup, the house owner will be able to control any room temperature with an Aura by entering that room.

Thermostats are normally placed in hallways and similar places. The temperature in out of the way places such as hallway is often different from the temperature in other rooms. A temperature in the kitchen is very different from the temperature in the living room or hallway. With Aura, EverSense takes care of this problem. The user can add more Aura iBeacon sensors any time. Since they use NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy, they can last about two years.

iBeacons can be any small devices with Bluetooth, or iOS devices. They allow businesses to send any type of information to iOS devices near an iBeacon. Apple is currently using the iBeacons to send to their customers in-store notifications. MLB, Macys and InMarket are also using iBeacons, and CES is using them for the scavenger hunt event.

EverSense expects the new Aura iBeacon to be available to the owners of their thermostats sometime this year.
