It was 1958, and Dale Lovell was heading to a job in Schuyler when he was pulled over by a state patrolman.
Lovell was driving a 1949 International flatbed pickup truck which, according to his son, Mike, everything that (could be) wrong with it was wrong with it.
No headlights, no taillights, (a) broken window, everything, Mike said. The state patrolman happened to know him by name and said, Dale, where are you going with this contraption? He said, Im going over to Schuyler, Ive got a job mopping up a roof. As soon as I get that done, Ill be able to get this fixed.
After his run-in with the patrolman, Dale began the job of mopping up a banks roof with hot tar. As he was doing his work on the roof, someone from a car dealership came up to him asking for an estimate for his roof.
He got done with the bank and went to the car dealership, Mike said. When he got done with that, the post office got a hold of him. So he went over and mopped the post office (roof). By the time he got done in Schuyler, he had done five jobs and he made pretty good money over there doing that.
Those five jobs proved to be the starting point for a long and fruitful career. Dale and his wife, Roberta, started Dales Roofing in Columbus in 1960, and from there, he earned a reputation across the town as a hard-working, committed roofer.
Over 59 years, his family estimates that he had worked on hundreds of roofs all over Platte County, and the business itself was a family affair. From his wife to his son, Mike, who became his business partner in 2006, the family had its hands all over the business and worked hard to make it one of the more prominent roofing companies in Columbus.
Next year will be the 60th year of Dales Roofing; however, its founder wont be there to see it. On Oct. 19, with his son in the room by his side, Dale died at the age of 88. Mike knew that health problems were affecting him, as there was a litany of issues he'd been dealing with prior to his passing.
He had congestive heart failure, kidney failure, he had Type-2 diabetes and he had macular degeneration, Mike said. At 88 years old, it led up to it. His health wasnt the best.
The news of his death touched the family that had spent so much time with him. His grandson, Jon, who works as a surveyor for a consulting group in Omaha, said that his commitment to his customers set him apart from others in the field.
He was loyal, he was generous, faith-driven, honest and hard-working, Jon said. He raised 10 kids, thats an accomplishment on its own. They never went hungry.
In addition to the 10 children, he had 28 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. They all have plenty of memories of the late man in action, including one instance when Jon was in high school.

When you look at a roof, you dont know whats underneath it. When you tear into something and you find bad wood or something, we would take the time to explain it to customers. Now, with a phone on your camera, you can take pictures and say, Heres what we have, because an older person cant get up on the roof. I would take pictures and show them, This is whats bad (and) this is what we have to do.

MERIDIAN, Idaho Many people spend Black Friday rushing to the mall or big box stores hunting for deals.
But employees at Signature Roofingdecided to spend the day doing something else: giving back to their community.
The roofing company is filling up gas tanks - for free - for single parents at Paul's Service Center at the corner of Main Street and Franklin Road in Meridian. Employees hoisted "Free Gas" signs and waved drivers into the station, where they were greeted with candy canes, Christmas music, and free coffee and hot chocolate along with the fill-up.
PREVIOUS: Signature Roofing gives out free gas to single parents in Meridian
Most of the people who turned in had some variation of the same question:Is this real? What's the catch?
No catch, says Koki Gonzalez, Signature Roofing's sales and marketing manager.
"We just want to let others know that we're out here and we care, we care about our community," he said.
Joel Cano, owner of the roofing company, agreed.
"We always say 'people first,' and that's what we're about," he said.
For Cano, the gas giveaway is a way to pay forward the kindness others had shown him growing up in a family of migrant workers, where money was often tight.
"If we didn't have enough money to play sports, I could name a dozen families that would help us play, and got us shoes," he said. "I'm entrenched in the community, I love it."
RELATED: Idaho Life: What are you thankful for?
This marks the second year Signature Roofing has filled up people's tanks for free. Last year, Gonzalez said, the company paid for about 1,500 gallons of gas total.
"Single parents that are needing just a little hand up on a day where everybody is spending some money, we'd like to give something back to them," he said.
They might break that record this year.
"If the good music keeps coming on, we might be here all night, we'll see how it goes," Cano said with a laugh. "We might go broke today, but we'll have a lot of fun doing it."

(MENAFN - GetNews) Recon Roofing, family-owned and -operated, has over thirty-five years of experience providing excellent Jupiter roof repair services. They take pride in being able to assist with all Jupiter roofing needs.
JUPITER, FL - Dec 4, 2019 - Licensed and insured, Recon Roofing has provided honest services for over thirty-five years. Delivering their special brand of Jupiter roof repair services to all of Palm Beach County, they have maintained an outstanding rating online. This puts them far ahead of the competition.
They continue to deliver with services that can maintain the life of your roof from beginning to end. This means they can install a brand-new roof, assist with maintaining it, and then replacing it when the lifetime is complete.
It typically takes 25 years for a roof to lose its protective qualities and it's time for a new one. With proper maintenance,Jupiter roofing clientscan sometimes squeeze a few extra years out of it. Not to mention, with the professional services Recon provides, clients have the option to improve the internal life of their building.
For both commercial and residential properties,Recon Roofinghas innovative processes and materials that can increase the reflectivity and waterproofing of the roof. Waterproofing, of course, can extend the lifetime of the roof by avoiding unnecessary retaining of water leading to water damage. Reflectivity is what bounces the heat from the sun off the roof rather than absorbing it and sending it straight into the building. With certain coatings, clients can knock up to 50 degrees off the surface temperature of their roofs. This means that less heat is allowed inside, thus lowering energy costs. This is a great opportunity for both residential and commercial property owners.
Another thing to consider when keeping up with a roof is normal wear and tear. Again, people usually get 25 working years out of a roof. This is due to the elements outside that can cause damage to things like the shingles and the drain pipes that safely guide water and debris away to a location for dumping. Recon Roofing offers a service they call a 'tune-up in which they come to inspect all of this and more. They fix any loose nails and shingles, replace any missing parts, tighten up things around the drains, and even unclog the gutters. This no longer has to be a dreaded chore around the house.
About the Company

Photo by Deb GauMembers of the Marshall School Board voted Monday to include the roof over the pool area at Marshall Middle School to an ongoing roofing project at the middle school and Park Side Elementary.
MARSHALL A roofing project at Marshall Middle School will be bigger than originally planned. Members of the Marshall School Board voted Monday night to add the middle school swimming pool area to roof replacement being done at the middle school and Park Side Elementary.
The move will help make the most of bid pricing the school district received for the project, and do needed roof maintenance ahead of schedule, district staff said.
In February, the school board approved a combined bid of $1.549 million to do partial re-roofing at the middle school and Park Side. The roof work was scheduled to be completed over the summer of 2019 and 2020.
The portion of the middle school roof that would be replaced didnt originally include the roof over the pool area. It was scheduled for replacement a couple years out, said Dion Caron, business services manager at MPS. However, adding it to the project would make good use of both bid pricing and resources since the roof contractors would already be at the middle school, he said.
We talked to the company doing the middle school and Park Side already, Caron said.
The total additional cost to replace the pool roof section is $169,470, Caron said. Of that amount, $57,998 could come from the interests and proceeds from a long-term facilities maintenance bond. The school district could adjust its long-term facilities maintenance budget to fund the remaining $111,472 for the project.
The pool area at the middle school is not currently being used by the school district. However, regular maintenance like the roof repairs is still necessary to keep the building in good shape. Caron said the school district eventually hopes to do something with that part of the school building.
Were not sure how far down the road, Caron said. However, he said its not in the districts plan to tear the structure down. Its a good space.
One part of the failed 2017 Marshall school referendum was a proposal to convert the unused pool area into multipurpose space.
At Mondays meeting, school board members voted unanimously to add the pool roof section to the current roofing project, and to adjust the long-term facilities maintenance budget to use an additional $111,472 for the project.
The roofing project would be completed in the summer of 2020.
MARSHALL Thanksgiving is a time to get together and share a meal, and several area towns are doing just that ...

CALDWELL, Idaho After the Nampa School District levy failed to pass in the last election, Ridge Runners Remodeling offered to re-roof multiple schools in the Nampa School District, all for free. The school district ended up turning him down though, due to what they say were limits on liability insurance. So, hes helping out elsewhere.
Eric Libby, the owner of Ridge Runners Remodeling got in contact with the executive director for Habitat for Humanity, and now hes re-roofing a Caldwell womans home.
I had been looking up at the roof and seeing these ruffled shingles and I thought, wow, I dont know if its gonna make it through another winter, said Dale King, Caldwell resident.
That was a valid concern that was only heightened when Eric with Ridge Runners Remodeling showed up and told her that if the roof does not get replaced, it might cave in once snow falls.
Lucky for Dale, Eric was on the hunt for opportunities to help out the community.
Why not, if you have it. I like to take 10 percent of what I make anyways and give back, said Libby.
Hes already repaired five roofs just since the Nampa School District turned down his offer to do theirs a few weeks ago.
Time to give thanks and thank the community for everything that they provide me, cause without the community I have no work, said Libby.
And with the help of a local roofing supply company, Eric is going to repair Dales entire roof free to her, but not to him.
I pay my guys to do the work. They shouldnt have to do anything for free, said Libby.
He says his payment comes in the form of smiles on the faces of the people he helps.
Eric plans to have Dales roof finished by Thanksgiving, and hes looking to help out other people in need through Habitat for Humanity as well.

Factors to Note

Also, aggressive cost-control measures and favorable price/cost relationship are adding to the bliss.
Moreover, its integration of Allied Building Products, productivity enhancement techniques and digital platform is expected to have benefited the company in the to-be-reported. However, rising material costs have been denting its performance over the last few quarters.
As a distributor of residential roofing supplies, Beacon Roofing is sensitive to asphalt and shingle prices, which are highly volatile. Shingle prices have been volatile in recent years, partly due to volatility in asphalt prices. Although asphalt prices, which moved higher from February to April, remained stable in the July-September period, volatility of the commodity might have been a concern for the company.
Also, its commercial roofing market has been experiencing highly competitive pricing pressures. The maintenance, repair & operations supply market is highly fragmented, with many smaller local players competing directly on pricing issues.
