DALTON, Ga. (AP) Federal labor officials say they investigating the death of a roofing contractor in northwest Georgia.
Dalton Fire Department Deputy Chief Gary Baggett tells the Dalton Daily Citizen (http://bit.ly/1hPpMfm ) that a 48-year-old McMinnville, Tenn. -based contractor was working on the roof of a carpet and flooring manufacturing plant when he fell about 30 feet on Saturday morning.
Baggett says the man was conscious after the fall, but suffered severe head trauma. Baggett says the man was taken to the Hamilton Medical Center but died on the way there.
The cause of the man's fall and whether he was wearing protective equipment at the time is unclear.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating whether any safety standards may have been violated.

Roofing contractor's death under investigation
MIRI: Chung Huat Industries Sdn Bhd (CHI) has supplied some 100 million square feet of roofing through its many distribution channels since beginning operations in 2000.
The company was one of the first here to provide an on-site forming facility for long length roofing.
CHI general manager Goh Tiang Hong said single-length roofing helps to save on material costs, while on-site forming means roofing of more than 180 feet can be easily achieved without much handling or transportation.
Its mainstream products are from Mili Roof, which includes Militek, Milispan, Mili-Curve, BEnatile, Stardek and Lokpro-670.
Lokpro-670 is a concealed fix roofing product without penetration of fasteners, with lengths close to 70 feet, which is being supplied to a project site in Lutong.
Other than roofing, the company also produces c-lipped channels, barbed wire, chain-link fencing, red clay bricks and accessories such as gutters.
CHI is also actively involved in major projects statewide such as Courts Mammoth and E-mart Supermarket.
Over the years, CHI has sought business partners and collaborations, and today works closely with companies such as YKGI Holdings Berhad and Yunco Building Systems Sdn Bhd.
