Quick Roofing, a full-service roofing company in business since 1984, offers homeowners some valuable tips for summer roof maintenance. This company boasts crews that have been working with each other for more than 20 years, specializing in residential and commercial roofing for Texas and Oklahoma residents. Because regular maintenance is necessary to keep a roof in good working order, homeowners can perform some simple roof maintenance duties, with follow-up by a professional skilled in that area. Quick Roofing now offers tips and services for summer roof maintenance.
Neglected roofs fall into disrepair, requiring more work and expense in the long run to fix. Roofs that do not undergo regular inspections and maintenance are prone to leaks and damage to components like shingles, flashing, trim and more. Leaks can lead to mold within attics, ceilings and walls, resulting in a more costly problem that also carries with it severe health risks for occupants. When a leak is not discovered and patched correctly by a professional, cold air can escape in the summer and warm air in the winter, causing an inefficient use of cooling and heating within the home. This can mean higher energy bills for homeowners, along with more repairs needed on HVAC systems.
A well-maintained roof also boosts the value of a home, both due to the aesthetics of the overall home but also in the asking price for anyone looking to sell the structure in the near future. Good roof maintenance can be as simple as checking for loose or missing shingles or as involved as replacing some or all of the roof.
Although there are some things homeowners can repair or maintain on their own, Quick Roofing professionals are always on hand to provide regular roof maintenance and repairs via comprehensive inspections. Professionals are experienced at resealing flashing, repairing roof penetrations, replacing shingles damaged by wind, and inspecting for damage from hail, debris and other effects of nature and the elements.
The professionals at Quick Roofing have the necessary safety equipment, tools, supplies and high-quality materials to perform each job with a top-notch attention to detail. These licensed pros offer affordable prices, free estimates on replacement roofs and free storm damage inspections.

CK Birla group company HIL Limited has claimed it had produced and sold 100,000 tonnes of Charminar brand fibre cement roofing sheets within a span of one month in May, this year.
This is the highest-ever achieved by any brand globally, HIL managing director, Abhaya Shankar, told Business Standard, adding the brand had been a household name, synonymous with asbestos roofing solutions across India, for nearly six decades.
HIL, which has eight manufacturing units, has an installed capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum. It has a 20 per cent share in the Rs 4,000-crore market of asbestos roofing products in the country.
Formerly known as Hyderabad Industries Limited, HIL launched Charminar asbestos roofing products 66 years ago. Shankar said the brand had attained market leadership sometime in the late 1950s and retained that position thereafter.
He said the brands recall remained the highest even after the entry of a plethora of new players in the asbestos segment in the post liberalisation period after 1995.
We have built the brand with a passion in rural India besides ensuring that we are perceived as the most reliable and a consistent quality product, Shankar said explaining how HIL could maintain the market leadership of the companys flagship brand for so many years.
As a part of brand building efforts, he said, HIL had deployed campaign vans, relied on wall paintings and actively participated in village marts and Kumbh Melas and other such events in rural areas.
This apart, according to Shankar, the brand building involved three aspects- a strong relationship with distributors, a pan-India presence and consistent policies in respect of trade. Added to this was a good supply chain and a robust system to get feedback from customers.
He said HIL spent 2.5-3 per cent of its revenues on brand building. In 2013-14, the company posted a turnover of Rs 869.47 crore and a net profit of Rs 7.13 crore.
Shankar, however, said the demand for asbestos roofing products last year was less than expected as people have delayed their purchasing options. As people did not replace roofing products last year, he was expecting better sales in the current year.

The Colorado Roofing Association offers tips to help homeowners avoid scam artists.
Colorado Roofing Association
The residential roofing industry in Denver and area communities, including Pueblo and Colorado Springs, is being cited in record numbers for failing to keep workers safe by providing necessary fall prevention equipment and training. In addition to its own outreach effort on fall prevention, OSHA is teaming up with various organizations, including the Colorado Roofing Association and the Better Business Bureau.
In the past six months, we have received 63 complaints related to unsafe work practices, and this is the beginning of the roofing season. The cost of providing fall prevention equipment is nominal compared with the cost of a senseless loss of life and livelihood, said David Nelson, OSHAs area director in Englewood. Falls from heights of 6 to 15 feet accounted for 24 percent of all fatal falls in 2012.
Tips to Avoid Bad Residential Roofing Contractors
Consumers seeking to hire reputable and safety conscious roofing companies should visit the Colorado Roofing Association web site for tips on locating a quality contractor. The association warns: Beware of scam artists and unlicensed contractors. Not all roofing contractors are legitimate, and too many home and building owners have paid dearly for using them. They offer these tips:
To file a complaint or research complaints filed against a roofing contractor, consumers can go to the Better Business Bureau's web site. The establishment search on the OSHA web site provides consumers with information on contractors that have been cited for safety and health violations.
Consumers should be aware that, in many cases, the contractor they sign an agreement with is not necessarily the contractor installing the roof. Many roofing companies are using a different name with a higher Better Business Bureau rating to get the job, but have no roofers to do the install, said Nelson. Consumers need to ask questions, such as: Are the installers your employees or subcontractors? Are they insured? What is their past work history? How will the project be managed? What kind of fall protection will be used? Hold your contractors accountable. The last thing a consumer wants is someone falling, especially on their property.

An Appleton roofing company owner has been charged in Dane and two other counties with theft after allegedly failing to complete paid-for repairs to hail-damaged roofs in 2011.
Daniel Steiner, owner of Midwest Roofing, is charged with felony theft by contractor in Dane, Brown and Outagamie counties. Steiner acknowledged in a 2013 interview with police that his company was bankrupt, and that he would take money from one job to pay for jobs already underway, and that he didnt pay his roofing supplier. The result for homeowners in Madison, Middleton, Grand Chute and Green Bay was constant delayed or incomplete repairs.
According to a criminal complaint, one victim said she was given excuses from Steiner for delays to fixing a storm-damaged roof that included he had brain surgery, thought the job was already completed, had to fire his cousin and the materials were already ordered, the materials were paid for but didnt show up.
That was after she had already paid $11,401 half the bill up front. In the end, she had to pay another contractor to finish the job and did not get her money returned.
Working with leads from the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, state Department of Justice investigator Camellia Howe reported that Madison residents Corey and Heather Stelljes signed a contract in September 2011 with Steiner for a hail-damage repair project, for payments of $4,400 and $7,814. After installing half of the insulation and removing the aluminum siding from the Stelljeses home, which he recycled, Steiner did not come back and did not return their calls.
ABC Supply placed a $7,014 lien on the home because Steiner didnt pay for the materials, and another company had to complete the job, costing the Stelljeses an additional $5,000, according to the complaint.
Other complaints repeat that scenario, including the lien from ABC Supply. The BBB reports receiving 10 complaints about Midwest Roofing. Lisa Schiller of the BBB said its report on Steiner said he has also operated contracting services under the business names of Elite Exteriors, Integrity Roofing, Midwest Flooring, Precision Roofing and Siding and Steiner Custom Construction.
She said the BBB recommends getting at least three bids on construction projects.
An arrest warrant was issued for Steiner. The bankrupt roofing company had an address in Appleton and in Fond du Lac.

The owner of Midwest Roofing Corp., Daniel Steiner of Appleton, has been charged with multiple felony counts of theft spanning three counties alleging he took thousands of dollars in payments to repair hail damage to homes but never completed the work.
Steiner also is accused of leaving some consumers with unpaid bills to cover materials for the repairs and hire new contractors to do the work.
According to three criminal complaints released by the Wisconsin Department of Justice on Tuesday:
A second consumer had filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in July 2012. He complained that he had signed a contract for more than $16,000 with an office manager at Midwest Roofing to repair the hail-damaged roof of his Middleton home in the spring of 2011. The consumer gave the office manager $7,000 up front. Steiner later claimed that the office manager had misappropriated the money so the consumer took pity and gave Steiner another $7,000. That consumer, too, later received a letter from the supply company threatening a lien on his property for unpaid materials. He said he had to pay $2,000 to the supply company to avoid the lien. He never heard from Steiner again.
When interviewed by investigators at the end of January 2013, Steiner said Midwest Roofing went bankrupt. The company is no longer in business.
"The defendant described his situation as one of 'cash flow,'" one complaint states. "The defendant stated that he would use funds from one client's project to 'do the next person's job.' The defendant stated that his hands were tied if a client did not pay. The defendant stated that when money came in from one job, he would use the money to keep different jobs going."
Steiner, 39, has been charged with two counts of theft by a contractor in Dane County, each punishable by $10,000 in fines and six years in prison. He's also charged with one felony count of theft in Brown County, carrying a penalty of up to $10,000 and up to 3.5 years in prison, and one count of felony theft in Outagamie County that could lead to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines.
The complaint was referred to the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Consumer Protection Unit by the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau.
The BBB in Wisconsin recommends that consumers check the company's record with the Better Business Bureau before choosing a contractor. Each company's file includes details of complaints against it.
Wisconsin consumers who have a problem with a contractor can file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection online, by emailing datcphotline@wisconsin.gov or by phone at (800) 422-7128.
