National Roofing Partners Spotlights Innovative Roof Monitoring Technology - July 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 17, 2014

In a recent blog post, National Roofing Partners (NRP) showcased innovative, smart roof-monitoring technology that NRP said, will change commercial roofing maintenance.

NRP recently announced intentions to enter into an Exclusive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Beldon Technologies /dba Roof Monitor . Roof Monitor and NRP are Co-Branding marketing materials and in a Strategic Agreement will work towards successful implementation of the Roof Monitor Smart Roof Protection System.

The most recent advance from this alliance is the emergence of the Roof MonitorTM, which will allow building owners and property managers to monitor a commercial roof remotely.

Research shows that there are more than 3,000 roof collapses in the U.S. each year, said Dale Tyler, president of National Roofing Company. These create major devastation due to building and retail closures, inventory damage and expensive repairs.

In 2002, Brad Beldon, a commercial roofer, had the idea for Roof Monitor after witnessing another devastating result from a roof collapse at a local mens clothing store. Beldon recognized that businesses and commercial roofers had no choice but to be reactive to these scenarios. Beldon wanted a way to monitor roofing so that repairs could be made proactively.

After years of R&D, testing, and consulting with some of the smartest people around, Beldon has developed a state-of-the-art, proprietary technology that works like no other system on the market.

Roof Monitor uses wireless technology sensors that can be adhered to most any roofing material. These sensors will not void manufacturers warranties, are easily replaced, will work on a sloped roof, and are extremely durable.

By providing the ability for a building owner or property manager to proactively monitor a commercial roof, receive immediate feedback and take prompt action, this system ensures that these collapses are avoided. It is one of the most innovative products we are seen to date and are proud to represent the brand across NRP partners.

For more information on the Roof MonitorTM and how it works, as well is more information about National Roofing Partners, check out the company blog section of their website.

Veteran Roofer Opens Up Shop — Post-Retirement - July 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Meet Brian Torry from Phoenix, Ariz. Torry is the president and CEO of Elite Roofing Co. Founded a little over a year ago, they just opened their third location.

Brian moved to Phoenix, Ariz., from Louisiana when he was 20-years-old. His education consisted of a high school diploma and a lifetime of hunting and fishing. He said it was a background that made him highly-qualified for not knowing what he wanted to do with himself. After six months, his parents recommended he file for unemployment.

35-years ago that was how you found a job, Torry said.

So he stood in the unemployment line waiting to file when someone with Southwest Roofing Supply walked up looking for someone to answer their phones. Brian started work that day -- and said thats where his real education began.

I completely stumbled into it, it just happened to be, Torry said. It could just as easily been selling cars.

But it just stuck -- like tar to a roof. He worked hard to climb up the employment ladder until he found himself in a management position. Impressed by his skills and work-ethic, two of his mentors, Ron Pugh and Rodney Burns, offered him ownership in Roofing Supply Inc. in exchange for opening stores in Arizona and California.

Their business plan was: offer minority ownership to bright, motivated young people already established in the roofing distribution business, and give them the financing and mentorship to succeed. Torry accepted their offer and thrived under their tutelage, opening 11 locations under them.

When Pugh and Burns sold their business to a private equity firm in 2006, Torry stayed with the company but didnt enjoy his work. He missed the entrepreneurial spirit of a small business and felt out-of-touch with the community. So when his contract was up he left.

Once you get to a level of success you become a prime target of acquisition by competitors, Torry said. While I understand where its coming from, I dont like it. Its unhealthy for the roofing industry because it does drive up the pricing and eliminates the entrepreneurial spirit.

By this time, Torry had been in the roofing business for more than 30 years. He heard retirement calling his name, but didnt like the sound.

Roofing Business Office Destroyed by Fire - July 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Fire tore through the office of a roofing business just outside the Springfield city limits early Thursday, destroying the building.

The fire was reported about 5:00 am at the Teague Roofing Company on Farm Road 115 just south of Sunshine.

Capt. Darren Campbell with the Brookline Fire Department says the building was engulfed in flames when firefighters first got there. There were problems getting water on the flames, Campbell said, when one fire hydrant wasn't working initially.

Campbell says firefighters were also concerned about propane tanks near the building and roofing chemicals stored on the property. But firefighters were able to protect those items from the heat and flames to avoid explosions.

No one was injured in the fire. Firefighters from Brookline, Battlefield, Willard and Ebenezer helped fight the fire.

The cause of the fire is not immediately determined.

Crews Respond To Structure Fire In Brookline - July 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Flames ripped through a roofing business in the Brookline area on Thursday morning.

Crews initially thought they were being dispatched to a single-family home in the 2900 block of Farm Road 115. When they got there, however, they discovered it was a house that had actually been converted into a business.

"The building was being used by Teague's Roofing," Fire Captain Darren Campbell told KTTS News. "We don't believe anyone was living in it."

Officials had reported hearing some small explosions. Campbell said they were fortunate some of the hazardous material didn't make matters worse. "We believe the noises we heard were caused by some of the roofing supplies and other items. We had a propane tank that didn't become an issue, but it easily could have."

Campbell said he's not sure what caused the fire and the building appears to be a total loss.

Brookline received assistance from a number of agencies including Battlefield, Republic, Springfield, and Willard.
