When the Scioto County Courthouse was completed in May of 1927, Henry Bannon, chairman of the courthouse committee was quoted in the Daily Times as saying, It has up-to-date offices, a modern and sanitary jail, a beautiful law library and dignified courtrooms which represent justice.

In the spirit of restoring the courthouse to the standards of Bannon and to better represent its spot on the National Register of Historic Places, the Scioto County Commissioners met in special session Tuesday morning and passed a resolution authorizing the expenditure of $99,990 to replace the roof of the courthouse.

The failing roof which has been in disrepair for years caused the top floor of the building to be practically vacant since the Scioto County Jail relocated to its new location in April of 2006.

On Tuesday, the commissioners awarded the roofing replacement project to Five Star Commercial Roofing, out of Hartford City, Ind.

They have done some work for other companies in the area and weve heard nothing but good things. They (Five Star Commercial Roofing) have offices in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and in Florida, said Mike Crabtree, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners.

Shelby County Courthouse roof replacement close to ending - February 2, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

COLUMBIANA, Alabama -- Work to replace the roofing at the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana with one that has a more energy-efficient surface should wrap up during the first week of February.

"The contractor is removing the existing roof, which has been in place for over 20 years," said Reed Prince, manager of the county government's facilities and general services department.

The older roofing has worn out its useful life. "This contract was to take this off and replace it with a new roof," he said.

Prince said the new roofing will have energy-savings characteristics due to its white reflecting surface compared to the black tar coating of the old material. "The darker the roof, the hotter it gets," he said, noting the heat of the summer months.

The total price for the replacement is in the $125,000 range, Prince said.

The project has utilized a few parking spots behind the courthouse, but the end of the construction will make the spaces available again.

School's roofing, new city logo, among council agenda items - January 21, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

McALESTER Taking steps to help McAlester Public Schools for completion of a new metal roof at a school in the city is among the items on the agenda for the McAlester City Councils next regular meeting.

Councilors are set to meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall.

An agenda item regarding the school roof calls for councilors to consider and act upon a memorandum of understanding between the McAlester Public Works Authority and the McAlester Public Schools Board of Education.

The action, placed on the agenda by City Manager Pete Stasiak would authorizes the release of funds derived from City Ordinance 2159 for the acquisition, construction or equipment of educational facilities.

Councilors are to consider a motion to approve a memorandum of understanding that would convey to the McAlester School District $370,000 to be used for completion of the new metal roof at Puterbaugh Middle School.

The McAlester Public Works Authority approved a memorandum of understanding Feb. 14, 2012, to provide McAlester Public Schools $700,000 for the repair or replacement of school roofs.

MPS is requesting an additional $370,000 to complete the second half of the Puterbaugh Middle School roof, according to city documents.

The money is derived from sales tax returns collected from a sales tax originally passed by city voters on a city question to fund new construction at McAlester Public Schools.

At the time, the school district was having a difficult time meeting the 60 percent of the vote threshold required to pass a school bond issue.

The state legislature has allowed for school-related measures to be considered as a city vote, it its agreeable to both the city and the school district. When the measure passed, it had allowed for new constriction at McAlester High School, including constriction of the Lucy Freeman Smith center.

Chicago Replacement Windows Contractors Best Windows, Inc. Invites Clients to Earn New-for-2013 Extended Tax Credits … - January 10, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jan 10, 2013) - Chicago home remodeling and replacement windows contractors Best Windows, Inc. is pleased to announce a revision of The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, which has retroactively renewed the non-business energy property tax credit for energy-efficient windows installed in 2012, as well as those installed throughout 2013, for homeowners who install specific energy-efficient improvements to their principal residences in the United States.

The amount of the tax credit is still 10 percent of the cost of building improvements, not including labor costs, with a cap of $200 for exterior windows, including storm windows and skylights. Windows must have the expectation of lasting at least five years, which a two-year warranty will appropriately demonstrate. If the windows have been replaced in conjunction with new patio doors, the homeowner can receive up to $500.

To receive the credit, homeowners who have updated their Chicago windows with eligible energy-efficient windows, storm windows, skylights, and patio doors will be required to file IRS Form 5695 (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5695.pdf) with their taxes. Additionally, they will need to keep receipts or other documentation proving that they made the improvements, as well as a copy of the manufacturer's certification.

Best Windows, Inc. is a highly-respected Chicago contracting company, specializing in windows, home remodeling, roofing, siding, decks, and patios. Best Windows, Inc. has received the Better Business Bureau's A+ rating with zero complaints and over 15,000 windows installed, as well as Angie's List's Super Service award for both 2011 and 2012.

Best Windows is the largest Illinois dealer of energy-efficient and tax-credit eligible Serious Windows, using Serious Windows for 90% of their Chicago replacement windows jobs. They have been named Serious Windows' dealer of the year for the past three years.
