Deadwood woman dies in Saturday crash By Mark Watson Black Hills Pioneer Black Hills Pioneer |
DEADWOOD A Deadwood woman died Saturday evening when the golf cart she was a passenger in rolled off a retaining wall and pinned her underneath.
At approximately 6 p.m. Deadwood Police officers responded to Cliff Street for a report of the accident.
Deadwood Police Chief Kelly Fuller said the golf cart, driven by Greg Vecchi, 50, of Deadwood, dropped off a 10-foot high retaining wall. It rolled at the bottom and trapped him and his wife Monica Beer, 54. Vecchi was able to free himself and seek help. Beer died at the scene. Vecchi suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries.
The Deadwood Police Department continues to investigate the accident.

Marcin Gortat's new contract doesn't change much for the Washington Wizards.
That's the problem.
More pointedly, it's Bradley Beal and John Wall's problem.
When the Wizards handed Gortat a five-year, $60 million deal, they did so knowing every penny of it would be paid, as NBA.com's David Aldridge noted at the time:
This was a move they had to make if retaining Gortat was a top priority. Other teams were showing interest, and the Wizards risked losing him if they weren't prepared to invest.
Yet this isn't an investment in Gortat alone. That the Wizards feel comfortable sinking $60 million into The Polish Hammer attests to their confidence in Beal and Wall, their capacity to improve and the hope that internal development is enough for lateral movements to qualify as progress.
Minimal Flexibility
Additional help is not on the way in Washington.
Signing Gortat restricts the Wizards financially both now and for the next few years. Their biggest move will consist of re-signing Trevor Ariza, who remains undecided on his future, according toThe Washington Post's Brandon Parker.

Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall at the Enchanted Forest in Salem, July 5, 2014 (Facebook pictures)
SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) Humpty Dumpty literally fell off the wall and smashed into pieces at theEnchanted Forestin Salem on Saturday.
Officials at theEnchanted Forest posted this picture on their Facebook pagewith the update:
A sad day at EF! Hopefully we can put him together again! (Thankfully, no one was hurt, except Humpty)
It appears Humptys demise was accidental.
KOIN 6 News learned two men climbed over the retaining wall and tried to get up on the wall with Humpty, but Humpty and the wall fell.
Enchanted Forest officials later posted:
It seems someone wanted a close-up pic. For safety, especially, please stay on the trails! We will keep everyone updated.
Made of cement, Humpty Dumpty was made by artist Roger Tofte and sat on that wall since the park opened in 1970.
