Branchburg, NJ (PRWEB) May 20, 2013
After spending more than 60 years in downtown Somerville, Somerville Aluminum has just opened its new 15,000 square foot facility just seven miles away in Branchburg. The park-like campus sits on over 6 acres and includes the companys impressive showroom and design center, corporate office and warehouse. The new location has been a long-time dream of owners David Gropper and Gary Shiman, who together run the family owned business that started as an aluminum storm window company and has grown into the largest home remodeling and design company in central New Jersey.
For David and myself to be lucky enough to continue a third generation business- to take it from its roots and build our dream home for our employees and customers is somewhat overwhelming to me, explains Gary Shiman. We have an amazing group of people working for us who I am so very proud of and grateful for. I am excited to give them this new home to work in.
Upon entering the new facility, a welcoming reception area with a soaring wall of slate and mosaic tiles greets one along with a unique display wall of flooring as if entering an art gallery. There is a comfortable seating area centered in front of a fireplace with a large flat-screen TV. Rounding the bend, past the pergola and the grand entry door display, it is hard not to stop in ones tracks and take in the magnificent display that unfolds before the eye. Beneath the soaring ceilings and on top of the glittering decorative concrete floor is an expansive, architecturally designed remodeling showroom brimming with displays of windows and doors, awnings and decking, siding and railings. There are walls of granite and marble, a tile selection center, bathroom vanities and a working shower. Cabinets in every color and style and hardware displays all lead to several kitchen vignettes, in a style to meet every taste, fit every budget and satisfy every homeowner.
A full working kitchen will allow the New Jersey remodeling contractor to hold vendor demonstrations, while entertaining customers and providing information on the latest trends. The entire complex has been Wi-Fi enabled and large flat screen TVs are scattered throughout the showroom, conference room, offices and sales center so that customers can conveniently tap the Internet and sales associates can share company photos, show designs and access customer files from any spot.
Somerville Aluminum, working with an architect and designer, gutted the entire building from top to bottom, completed the build-out and utilizing their own contracting team to install the showroom display areas, had the project completed all in just four months.
With the goal of providing a convenient, one-stop showroom for its customers and a comfortable environment for employees to thrive in, Somerville Aluminum has built its dream home with the guiding principle that started with founder Max Gropper in 1950: To provide complete customer satisfaction.
I am most excited to stand at the front door and greet our customers as they walk in, beams Gary Shiman.
Go with the Pro: Somerville Aluminum is the areas largest full service home remodeling company and has built a reputation for reliability, expertise and trust with core family values lacing through three generations of service to Central Jersey homeowners.

KENNY GRONO and his wife, Bronwyn Reice, both 36, of Northern Liberties, founded Buckminster Green, a green remodeling firm, in 2005. The North Philly company was inspired by the author and futurist R. Buckminster Fuller, who taught at Penn, Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore. It installs high-efficiency windows, doors and appliances; uses no-formaldehyde insulation; designs for limited waste; and recycles wood, drywall, shingles, cardboard and metal. I spoke with Grono.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for the business?
A: I taught physics in the Philadelphia School District. During summers, we bought and fixed homes, then flipped them. We got interested in green building, and the firm was born. I taught until 2007 to save money to start it.
Q: What's up with the name?
A: Buckminster Fuller coined "Spaceship Earth" and invented the geodesic dome. He was a pioneer in using design in smart ways to reduce waste and make the planet better.
Q: How do you grow the biz?
A: People are comfortable buying a car or a house, not so much when it comes to remodeling. A lot of people compare this to new construction, and it's different. Most houses we work on are 100 years old and you find issues when you open up a wall.
Q: Where's most of your work?

DES PLAINES, IL -- The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is proud to announce an expansion of the organization with a new chapter, NARI of Central Pa. This chapter will encompass the greater Harrisburg area. The new chapter addresses a need for a professional association focused solely on the growing remodeling market in the central and south central areas of the state.
The idea arose on a jobsite, according to Chapter President Joseph Sullenberger, president of Mid Penn Awnings & Tinting based in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
"A group of us were working on a jobsite, and the subject of remodeling came up--specifically, the lack of support and business networking opportunities for remodelers in our area," he says. "It was decided that all of us needed to start a chapter with a focus on the remodeler business needs, which is unique from builders."
Aligning with NARI became the obvious next step to filling the void, especially with a national increase in remodeling activity, based on NARI's first-quarter Remodeling Business Pulse (RBP) research.
The chapter is looking forward to taking advantage of the resources and benefits NARI National provides such as education and certification programs, business/marketing tools, lobbying efforts, research, networking opportunities and of course, the NARI brand and reputation.
"We are grateful to have the credibility of a national association behind our chapter and our businesses," Sullenberger says. "We will be working hard to raise awareness of the NARI brand in our local market by actively promoting membership to business colleagues and teaching homeowners about NARI and the Code of Ethics."
The chapter also has plans to initiate study groups for the various NARI certification programs, with a goal for all chapter members to hold at least one certification. The chapter will hold dynamic monthly meetings that address important topics such as lead safety and running a successful small business. Future plans include the development of a home show.
"There is a lot to look forward to, and those who are already involved are highly passionate about the chapter and are dedicated to advancing our industry locally," Sullenberger says. "I think once business owners start to learn about NARI and see the chapter in action, they will feel the sense of community and professionalism that we bring, and hopefully, they, too, will want to be a part of NARI during these early stages of growth and development."
Having attended the chapter's first meeting held on Apr. 18, 2013, NARI Past President Michael Hydeck, MCR, CKBR was especially honored to meeting the leaders of the new chapter. "I am proud to welcome the NARI of Central PA chapter into the NARI family," he says. "NARI is about professionalism and business integrity in remodeling, and I can tell you first-hand the group of business leaders who have banded together to form this chapter fit the NARI profile in every way."
To learn more about the NARI of Central PA chapter and upcoming events, visit http://www.nariofcentralpa.org. For membership information call (717) 932-1487 or email info@nariofcentralpa.org.

While many Americans are ready to take on remodeling/renovation projects this spring, doing it the wrong way can be costly. Some errors to avoid:
Not knowing exactly what you want
If you dont know exactly what you want or specify what you want, youre going to get what the contractorthinksyou want. And it could end up costing you dearly. For home remodeling design ideas, inspiration and a whole lot more (including cost estimates), check out Zillow Digs free on theiPador the web. You can search by style, cost or room. And whats really cool is that you can search by specific elements within a room, such as quartz or granite countertops, for example. Share your boards with your contractor so that youre clear on your objectives.
Hiring the first contractor who comes along
Sure, he may seem nice, and he may seem competent, but have you checked him out? What do your friends say about him? Have you contacted his references? Seen his work? Are there any complaints lodged against him? (P.S.: The Better Business Bureau just released its top 10 list of inquiries from consumers, and half relate to home improvement.) What do subcontractors and suppliers have to say about their dealings with him? Is he licensed and insured? As excited as you may be about taking on this new project, you need to do a fair amount of due diligence.
Jumping at the lowest bid
Get at least three bids, and throw out the lowest one so as to avoid the inevitable consequence: cheap materials, shoddy installation, etc. Dont invite trouble in! Rather, hire someone who not only comes in within target, price-wise, but is someone you feel personally comfortable with.
Not insisting on a written contract
Every detail about your project should be included in a contract, from the start date to the approximate completion date, right down to the brand of fixtures to the number of coats of paint. Be as specific as possible! Also important: setting a time limit for fixing defects so that if a dispute arises, its not endless.
Not setting a payment schedule
