Remodeling project starts at Wahoo - August 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

WAHOO A long awaited renovation project is underway at Wahoo High and Middle School.

Work crews from Cheever Construction began remodeling the entryway and high school office at the start of the summer break.

The day that kids got out, they were already in here bringing in equipment, said Wahoo Public Schools Superintendent Galen Boldt,

The plans for the project have been on the table for about the past two years.

Space needs and security issues helped to drive the project.

According to Boldt, the original office perimeter will remain the same but the arrangement will be completely different.

The most important of these changes, he said, is the repositioning of the secretarial staff closer to the front doors.

That was a matter of giving more security to our building, he noted. We wanted to design that for better security, traffic flow and use of space.

According to Boldt, the secretarial staff who monitor the buzzer locks on the door will now have a direct view of the entryway.

New carpet is also being put into the new office area, as well as the hall where all the lockers are located.

New Study Links Remodeling to Relationship Issues, Grand Homes Reviews Evidence - August 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) August 06, 2013

As a company that has been in the homebuilder business for more than 25 years, Grand Homes reviews the home buying and designing process as one that should be an exciting experience for couples and families. However, a recently released study suggests that those who attempt to undergo remodeling may end up facing relationship problems. As a solution, this Dallas-based company encourages all married couples to consider building a new home to avoid remodeling woes.

A recent article from The Huffington Post tracks the negative response linked to remodeling experienced by married couples and states, More than half of the respondents from a survey distributed by [Houzz.com] reported that renovating was a particularly frustrating and stressful time in their marriages. And a surprising 12 percent even admitted that their projects led them to consider a separation or divorce.

Grand Homes reviews this new evidence in a new press statement, Designing a home with your partner is an experience that should be enjoyed by all. Although there are many obstacles that can arise in the remodeling process, the result should be a property that reflects the couples unification, not opposition. While many couples may attempt to remodel their existing property to achieve their dream home, it may prove less stressful to simply have a custom home built, such as those that Grand Homes provides. This way, a couple can make sure that every element they want it is incorporated into the design, allowing them to find compromise through a blank canvas.

While a new home may be an alternative way to avoid marital troubles caused by remodeling disagreements, Grand Homes reviews the importance of addressing the factors that could lead to the dissolution of a marriage. Citing the Houzz.com survey, The Huffington Post explains, that many couples face stress when remodeling plans get behind schedule and go over budget.

Additionally, a third of respondents revealed that style was a matter that caused disagreements.

We like the articles suggestion to allow each couple to design their own room as a way to avoid the style arguments that could arise during home construction or remodeling. In terms of sticking to a budget and making sure everything goes according to schedule, our team is staffed with skilled design professionals and contractors that can take pressure off these concerns, Grand Homes reviews in its press statement.

Art Museum Remodeling Part of a Larger Plan - August 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art started remodeling the front of its building facing 3rd Avenue S.E. on Monday morning. But its more than just sprucing up a single downtown structure. Its part of a plan to create a cultural hub in downtown Cedar Rapids linking the soon-to-open Cedar Rapids Library, the art museum and Greene Square Park into an enticing area.

Construction on what will be a total $1.7-million dollar renovation and rejuvenation at the art museum kicked off with a symbolic whacking at a wall and ramp structure that must come down first. Some museum staffers call it the fortress. The huge access ramp stretching in front of the main museum building dates to the opening of the building in 1989 and was needed then as the only accessible entrances for the disabled. But a renovation in 2003 added a rear entrance with elevators to provide better access for those unable to climb stairs.

So the renovation project calls for tearing down the now unneeded entire front entrance ramp and replacing it with another large downtown plaza space. The museum plans to add benches, perhaps tables and even some outdoor public art to encourage users to sit and linger around the museum in nice weather. A second remodeling phase will redo the older Carnegie Library portion of the art museum and add a free childrens activity center called Imagination Isle. Museum leaders hope to get visitors to come more often than just once or twice a year.

But the museum remodeling work is also part of a larger downtown renovation picture.

Interim director Sean Ulmer said both the museum and library boards have discussed tackling changes to Greene Square Park next. The idea would be to add a playground, more picnic areas and perhaps a pavilion to host park activities. Greene Square Park would then serves as an attractive gateway and entrance to both cultural facilities and serve to tie both together.

We see this as a really wonderful moment for the city. With the library moving back to Greene Square Parkand both boards have been talking for years about what to do to improve Greene Square Park, Ulmer said.

Ulmer said the library, opening later this month, should bring a large number of new people to the area along 3rd and 4th Avenues S.E. And part of the idea behind the renovation is to get those new visitors interested in visiting the art museum as well.

One downtown worker, Lisa Wallerstedt, agreed a plaza where people could stop for lunch might also get them to spend more time in the museum itself.

Itll be beneficial, you have people coming down to the library and people come down on the weekend with kids, she said.

The first phase of renovations, the outdoor plaza, should wrap up by November. Work inside the art museum should start this winter. The museum will remain open during regular hours while under constructions, but visitors may have to use different entrances based on the work.

Home remodeling: What's it worth? - August 4, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Since closing in May on a 4,200-square-foot house in Detroits Indian Village, Joe Danley and his wife, Melanie, have been transforming it into the perfect space for their growing family.

The couple refinished the hardwood floors, painted walls and ceilings and even sandblasted the brass hinges, locks and fittings in the house, which was built in 1914. Bathroom remodeling is next.

This house has proven to be a much bigger undertaking than we planned, but we wouldnt change it for the world, Joe Danley said.

With the home remodel season under way and the housing market on the rebound, more people are tackling home improvement projects and getting a better return on their investment than in recent years, industry experts say. Whether the work is intended to make a house more comfortable to live in or to boost resale value, some projects can pay off more than others.

    Graphic: Remodeling, what's it worth?

The two big remodel areas that you see all the time, that probably give you the best return and bang for your buck, are generally thought to be a major kitchen remodel and a master bathroom remodel, said Lee Schwartz, an executive vice president with the Homebuilders Association of Michigan. When you think about kitchens and bathrooms, they contain the most components that you can upgrade.

About 30% of home improvement projects are undertaken with the goal of increasing resale value, Schwartz said. Most people remodel simply to make their house better suit their own needs.

Its tough to get (any remodeling project) to pay off 100%. ... It depends on what youve done, how much youve spent and what your market is, Schwartz said.
