PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Arterial Remodeling Technologies (ART) reported from the podium yesterday at TCT 2013 that the Company has successfully completed the 30-day milestone portion of the ARTDIVA (Arterial Remodeling Transient DIsmantling Vascular Angioplasty) clinical trial of its novel bioresorbable stent. ARTs next-generation bioresorbable stent is designed to promote positive arterial remodeling and then bioresorb (i.e., disappear).
Presentation of the ART data was made from the podium yesterday afternoon at TCT 2013 by principal investigator of the ongoing ARTDIVA study, Jean Fajadet, M.D., Co-Director of the Interventional Cardiology Unit, Clinique Pasteur, Toulouse, France; and, a member of ARTs Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Fajadet presented the ART data in the following scientific sessionNEXT GENERATION DES AND BIORESORBABLE SCAFFOLDS, Session V. Fully Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffolds (BRS).
I am very pleased with the event-free results we have seen at 30 days with the ART stent. In particular, I am impressed by the simplicity of the deliverability of the stent, as well as its excellent apposition to vessel walls as validated by OCT (optical coherence tomography), said Dr. Fajadet.
The independent measurement of acute angiographic recoil for the ART stent by quantitative angiography at just 4.0% confirms the metallicstentlike scaffolding performance of ARTs bioresorbable stent, added Jeffrey J. Popma, M.D., Director, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Angiographic Core Laboratory and Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School.
We are pleased with these positive clinical results at 30-day follow-up, and we now look forward to reporting additional data at the all-important 12-month angiographic follow-up milestone, said Antoine LaFont, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Medicine, Head Interventional Cardiology Department, Georges Pompidou Hospital (Paris); and, Past Chairman, Interventional Cardiology Working Group, European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Pr. LaFont is a co-founder of ART.
Investigators at the five ARTDIVA clinical trial sites are enthusiastic about using our next-generation bioresorbable stent for three important reasons: (1) it is made of a biocompatible material and (2) is designed to have a programmed transitory presence in order to (3) facilitate natural remodeling, and is thus unique among bioresorbable stents on the market and in development, added Machiel van der Leest, CEO of ART.
ARTs bioresorbable stent is designed to provide a transient effective scaffold that dismantles and relinquishes its primary mechanical scaffolding function after three months. A three-month scaffolding period is commonly recognized by experts as the requisite length of time necessary to allow the healing process to stabilize the artery following trauma generated by angioplasty, and to avoid recoil and constrictive remodeling. Our stent, or bioresorbable scaffold, is designed to perform as effectively as a conventional metallic stent, but with the significant advantage of relinquishing its scaffolding function when the stent is no longer necessary to maintain the shape of the vessel, van der Leest said.
As previously reported by ART in a news release on April 4, 2012: Our analysis of ARTs in vivo data confirms that stent dismantling is occurring at around three months, and the overall safety data look encouraging thus far, said Renu Virmani, MD, Medical Director/President, CVPath Institute, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Dr. Virmani also is Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology at Georgetown University, University of Maryland-Baltimore, Uniform University of Health Sciences, and Vanderbilt University.
ARTDIVA is a 30-patient, prospective, first-in-man interventional clinical investigation at five medical centers to evaluate the ART bioresorbable stent for the treatment of patients with de novo lesions. The primary endpoint is six months MACE rate; and the key secondary endpoint is the artery lumen evolution over the first 12 months as validated via QCA (quantitative coronary angiography) and OCT (optical coherence tomography).

The Remodeling Market Index (RMI) continued to climb in the third quarter of 2013 rising another two points. This is the highest reading since the first quarter of 2004, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Jim Hunter President of handyman and remodeling company House Doctors believes this is another sign of a strengthening economy.
The RMI's current market conditions index rose from 54 in the previous quarter to 58.This is the highest reading since the creation of the RMI in 2001. An RMI above 50 indicates that more remodelers report market activity is higher as opposed to reporting it lower.
Jim Hunter President of National Handyman and Remodeling Company House Doctors said, "Increasing home equity and home sales, and a strengthening economy, definitely has an impact. We see it in our own network. Across the country our franchisees are producing some great numbers."
All of the three major components of the RMI's market conditions index increased in the third quarter. Minor additions and repairs increased from 55 to 58 while maintenance and repairs increased from 57 to 59. Even major additions and alterations increased from 51 to 55.
Finally Hunter added, "The growth in home equity and home sales has given home owners confidence to remodel, repair and do handyman upgrades that they had put off during the tough times. We expect the demand for remodeling services to continue to increase however at a more gradual pace as the housing recovery makes progress."

The Renaissance area is getting another big business, and this time its a local one even though you probably wont recognize the name.
Ground has been broken on a new, $4.5 million showroom/office building in the bustling Renaissance corridor that will combine nationally recognized home-products brands under the Albuquerque-based Dreamstyle Remodeling umbrella. (Courtesy of Dreamstyle)
Albuquerque-based Dreamstyle Remodeling has broken ground on a new, $4.5 million showroom/office building, joining the likes of Sams Club and Costco in the bustling corridor.
The 20,000-square-foot project will go in next to Sportsmans Warehouse. It should be completed by March.
The building is part of a larger rebranding effort for a longtime Albuquerque enterprise with a booming business but no clear-cut identity.
Dreamstyle Remodeling is actually the new umbrella name for the company that started selling and installing nationally recognized home products in Albuquerque in the 1990s and always has marketed itself under those brand names including Four Seasons Sunrooms, Renewal by Andersen and Cal Spas.
Founder and CEO Larry Chavez said the problem was that nobody really knew who we were on the whole they assumed they were separate companies.
Its one company, and a pretty large one at that.
Dreamstyle Remodeling employs more than 200 people across six offices in three states and is in the process of hiring 20 more. It expects to gross $28 million this year, up from $21 million in 2012 and $13.5 million in 2011.
Chavez said he started selling Four Seasons Sunrooms in the 1990s and gradually has added more products and services including Home Depot cabinet installation while expanding throughout the Southwest. Dreamstyle has locations in Santa Fe, El Paso, Texas, and three in Arizona (Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson).

Remodeling Index Continues to Rise -

The Federal Savings Bank informs readers that more homeowners able to get low mortgage refinance rates and higher property values, remodeling activity has surged in 2013. According to the latest Remodeling Market Index by the National Association of Home Builders, remodeling has climbed to its highest rating since 2004. Rising two points in the third quarter of 2013, the index reached a rating of 57, indicating market activity has increased.
The Remodeling Market Index takes an average of current and future remodeling activity in the housing market. Without considering future market conditions, the current remodel rate increased from 54 points in the second quarter to 58 in the third. Current conditions reached the highest level since the initiation of the index in 2001. Any score above 50 on the index is an indicator that more remodelers are increasing market activity.
Improved economic conditions have provided encouraging signs for homeowners who plan to remodel. The Remodeling Market Index report comes at the same time as interest rates fell to an average of 4.13 percent for a 30-year fixed mortgage, down from the previous week's average of 4.28 percent, Freddie Mac reported. With housing conditions looking better, projects that were put on hold during the recession are coming to fruition.
Home sales and price gains have given a major advantage to homeowners who have seen the value of their properties increase over the last year. Heading into the winter months, when sales typically dwindle, prices are expected to rise, though at a slightly lower rate. According to the latest Home Price Index by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, prices increased 0.3 percent in August, the 19th consecutive month of growth in the housing market. With higher home equity and low cost mortgages, homeowners feel more confident about remodeling.
"In addition to existing home sales, which support remodeling activity as owners fix up their homes before and after a move, remodeling has benefited from rising home values," said David Crowe, NAHB Chief Economist. "This boosts home equity that owners can tap to finance remodeling projects. We expect existing home sales and house prices to increase, but at a slower rate over the next year, so the demand for remodeling services should also increase, but more gradually over that period."

Open the door and say, Ah. Your master bath can be more than just functional; it can be a spa.
Bathroom remodeling continues to be one of the most popular home improvement projects. It ranks consistently among the top 10 most reviewed categories on Angies List, which has more than 700 home and health categories.
What you can do with a bathroom depends on its size and whos using it.
Hall bathrooms are commonly used by kids and guests, and an update may be focused more on making the most of a high-traffic, cramped room. Ideas include replacing a mirror with a medicine chest faced with a mirror, or replacing a pedestal sink with a vanity that has cabinet space.
A master bathroom is usually larger and more private. Its a likely candidate for a spa makeover. Some ideas from highly rated remodelers:
Replace the tub with a luxury shower featuring multiple showerheads and hand-held sprayers, or a large rain-style shower head.
Create a fresh, clean look with a frameless glass shower door.
Upgrade with granite or solid-surface materials.
Focus less on the latest design trend or fad, and more on elements, fixtures and colors that will stand the test of time.
Incorporate universal design, which is intended to ensure that a project is useful for people of all ages, abilities and sizes. Among the ideas: Replace lower toilets or sinks with taller ones that require less stooping or bending.

Top 10 kitchen remodeling trends -
October 26, 2013 by

(MoneyWatch) Kitchens have gone from small rooms relegated to the back of the home to the focal point of family life. They connect to our largest living spaces and speak loudly from the center of the home, offering a central gathering point for family and guests.
So it's no wonder that Americans invest a lot of time and money into remodeling, updating and modernizing these spaces to their exact specifications. Houzz commissioned a survey of its members, most of whom turn to the site looking for inspiration while building or renovating their homes, and found a few trends along the way.
Countertops are the biggest change homeowners will make in their kitchens -- 94 percent of survey respondents planned to change them -- and more than half want to upgrade their appliances.
Those kind of more minor remodels can recoup as much as 75 percent of the cost when the owners resell -- one of the best ways to add value to your home, according to Remodeling Magazine's 2013 Cost V. Value report. Even a gut rehab will fetch up to 70 percent of the cost in added value.
The key to remodeling in a way that adds value is to make choices that will appeal to a broad number of buyers, so these kind of on-trend remodels will go a long way when reselling. If you know that nearly two-thirds of homeowners want stainless steel appliances, it's easy to assume that buyers will have very similar desires.
So what's looking good if you're looking to remodel? Check out these 10 trends:

SUNNYVALE, CA -- Planese, Inc., announced this month that homeowners across the country are now willing to spend 30 percent of the value of their home when they remodel; remodeling expense as a percentage of home value has been trending upward since 2007. Consumers also plan to use materials that are more expensive and spend an average of $102,000 to improve their homes.
These findings are part of the Fall 2013 Remodeling Sentiment Report, a forward-looking report based on data from the Planese and http://www.remodelormove.com survey of homeowners nationwide that analyzes and documents trends in the home improvement industry. Planese compared the responses of today's homeowners throughout the nation against the findings reported both during the recession in 2010 and at the height of the remodeling boom in 2007.
"The wealth effect is taking hold; consumers are spending again, which bodes well for the entire home improvement industry," said Dan Fritschen, CEO and co-founder of Planese, Inc. Since 2005, Fritschen has researched and published remodeling industry data about U.S. homeowners, their remodeling plans, and their intentions. "More people are feeling secure enough during this economic environment that they are remodeling. It's no longer the most affluent; we are at the beginning of a multi-year trend."
More homeowners (74 percent) plan to hire a general contractor, which is up significantly from the 64 percent reported in 2010 and 2007. The percentage of people who plan to engage an architect (56 percent) has bounced back from the low of 47 percent in 2010 during the recession. As the scope of projects increases, so does the need for an architect.
The projects planned are larger; the average number of rooms to remodel is four. Homeowners are more likely to remodel a kitchen (55 percent), which tends to be expensive and often is a discretionary expenditure, than a bathroom (48 percent), which is often viewed as a necessity.
The survey also found that homeowners are less likely to do any of the work themselves. Today, 43 percent plans to do none of the remodeling work themselves as compared to 36 percent in both 2010 and 2007. In addition, more homeowners say they will use expensive materials when they remodel (17 percent) today, as compared to 9 percent in 2010 and 10 percent in 2007.
Planese Survey Results:
Plan to perform none of the work 2007 - 36% 2010 - 36% 2013 - 43%
Plan to use a general contractor 2007 - 64% 2010 - 64% 2013 - 74%
Plan to hire an architect 2007 - 54% 2010 - 47% 2013 - 56%
