Houzz Goes International, Opens Offices In London, Berlin And Sydney - January 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Houzz, the fast-growing website and mobile app for all things home remodeling and design, today announced that it has opened offices in London, Berlin and Sydney. This marks the companys first official international expansion, but as its co-founder and CEO Adi Tatarko told me earlier this week, 35 percent of Houzzs traffic already comes from outside of the U.S.

The company has hired local managers to run these offices. In addition, it has hired Oliver Jung to oversee its international efforts. Jung previously launched and led Airbnbs international expansion.

As Tatarko stressed when I talked to her, the company plans to tackle its international expansion in the same way it grew its business in the U.S. This means it will focus on growing its community and internationalizing its content when necessary. It wont, however, focus on marketing. Tatarko believes that this will automatically follow as the community grows.

Sales are never our first priority, Tatarko told me. We are first and foremost a community and technology company. Thats how we built Houzz in the U.S. and thats how we plan to grow internationally, too.

Even today, without any specific marketing or local representation, Houzz is already seeing international home-remodeling pros, architects and others connect with its users all around the world. Because of this, Houzz already has 85,000 professionals from outside the U.S. in its directory. Just like Houzz managed to be a disruptor in the U.S. remodeling business, it also hopes to be able to disrupt some of the international markets where most of this business is still done the traditional way and basic word of mouth marketing is still the main way for many of these professionals to connect with potential customers.

This international expansion will also be good for Houzzs U.S. users, Tatarko believes. It will give them access to more ideas and trends and expose everybody to different ways of doing things.

As part of this announcement, Houzz also released its latest user numbers. The service now sees 16 million unique users from 184 countries every month. Professionals have now uploaded over 2.5 million images to the site, including 1 million retina-quality images that were uploaded over the course of 2013. Its app was downloaded over 6 million times last year, for a total of 12 million downloads.

The company itself has grown to 170 employees now, but as Tatarko stressed, the management structure still remains very flat. There is no middle management, and the founders still interview every prospective employee themselves. While the new international offices will have local managers, the idea is to replicate the same kind of structure in these outposts, too.

Nova Exteriors Launches New Website for 2014 - January 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Vienna, VA (PRWEB) January 14, 2014

Nova Exteriors, the Northern Virginia based home remodeling company, has teamed up with Blulo, a Mid-Atlantic internet marketing firm, to roll out a new website for 2014.

Nova Exteriors was experiencing a disconnect between their identity and online appearance. With a website that was showing its age, both visually and under the hood, it became apparent that it was time to clean the slate and start fresh.

The site redesign revolves around better serving the needs of Nova's growing client base by enhancing the user experience on the front end. The team at Blulo also has extensive plans to grow the site's online presence by increasing organic exposure to the site through search engines such as Google and Bing. Additionally, the site will feature integrated social platforms to help place Nova in the thick of the online conversation.

Blulo CEO Don Handy believes "This will be a great year for Nova Exteriors with the much needed redesign, and we're confident that Nova will see significant gains to not only web traffic, but also conversion of that traffic. Overall, they should see a sizable increase on the ROI of the company's online efforts."

The excitement at Nova is unparalleled. Nova Exteriors owner, Peter Vlantis said, "We're ecstatic about the direction we're headed in terms of our web presence. In the past we've utilized various online marketing tools but have found they are far less effective than they were just a few years ago. By growing organically, we put ourselves in a much better position to be successful."

About Nova Exteriors Nova Exteriors is a local home remodeling company that provides window, door, siding and roof replacement services to increase energy efficiency, curb appeal, and home value. Nova Exteriors has done over 10,000 projects in the Washington DC metropolitan area since its inception in 1995. NEW YORK Dan Le Batard was kicked out of the Baseball Writers' Association of America for one year and barred from future Hall of Fame votes after he turned over his 2014 ballot to a website that allowed readers to choose the selections.

The decision was made Thursday by the BBWAA board of directors, a day after Le Batard said he let Deadspin.com cast his ballot.

"The BBWAA regards Hall of Fame voting as the ultimate privilege, and any abuse of that privilege is unacceptable," the organization said in a statement.

Le Batard, an ESPN host and Miami Herald columnist, said Wednesday he gave his ballot to the website because he detests the "hypocrisy" in the voting process.

Deadspin had offered to pay a voter for a ballot. Le Batard said he insisted there wouldn't be compensation.

"I didn't `sell' anything. Only conditions were that I NOT get anything," he posted on Twitter.
