CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Man Steals From People's Porches - October 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

People who live in a Tower District neighborhood in Fresno say surveillance cameras caught a thief in the act. None of the people who live in the neighborhood know who the man caught on camera is.

However, they did see him around their homes and cars in the middle of the night.

"I felt violated and it really made me mad because how dare he come up on my property," says Annie Goodman whose surveillance cameras caught the bad guy in the act.

Annie Goodman says she didn't realize right away that the man took something from her porch.

"I took a neighbor to a doctor's appointment and there was something sitting on my corner and I said, "Oh my gosh that looks familiar," adds Goodman, "When I came back home I picked it up and it turned out it was the knee pads that I use for gardening."

When Goodman checked her surveillance video she saw a man on her porch in the middle of the night. The cameras caught the man walk away with a handful of things from Goodman's porch, including her knee pads that he dropped in the middle of the street.

"How dare people come up on your porch and take your things. They're shopping for items on your porches," says Goodman.

Goodman says she wants to stop crime in her neighborhood, so she started a phone tree and posts on Facebook. The neighborhood also has personal surveillance cameras everywhere, so they can catch criminals in the act.

"It really helps bringing the neighbor together; it puts the neighbor back in neighborhood," says Goodman.

Schools close in Pocono district after Eric Frein sightings - October 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BLOOMING GROVE , Pa., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Schools in Pocono Mountain in Pennsylvania were closed Tuesday, after two reported sightings nearby of accused police killer Eric Frein in three days.

Monsignor McHugh School, a Catholic school, also closed its doors.

The latest sighting was Monday evening, when a law enforcement officer saw a man who appeared to be Frein not far from Pocono Mountain East High School. An intensive search of the area turned up no further sign of the man.

On Friday, a woman walking her dog saw a man covered in mud and carrying a rifle.

State Police also reported Monday that drops of blood found on porches in the area was not Frein's.

The hunt for Frein is now more than a month old. He allegedly ambushed two state troopers outside the Blooming Grove barracks on Sept. 13, killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson and wounding Trooper Alex Douglass.

The manhunt has disrupted life in the area in many ways. A number of schools were closed at the beginning but resumed classes after a few days, hunting has been banned in some places, and businesses catering to tourists report that the fall leaf-peeping season has been a disaster.

Frein, 31, is charged with first-degree murder and other felonies. The survivalist and military enthusiast has made no apparent attempts at further violence.

Fire Serves As A Reminder Of The Dangers Of Couches Left On Porches - October 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

By Maureen Kocot Monday October 20, 2014 6:22 PM UPDATED: Monday October 20, 2014 6:37 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Arson investigators say they've found no evidence to convince them the fire was deliberately set, but investigators believe it was started by a cigarette on a couch on the front porch of the home.

The blaze started in the 1700 block of Summit Street.

"It completely got engulfed in less than 15 minutes," said neighbor Musa Sesaythot. "It was so intense. I've never seen a fire that big engulf an entire building."

Andrew Hurtt grabbed his phone and recorded flames shooting out the windows of the house early Sunday morning. Inside, there were a dozen young people trapped by flames and smoke.

I thought I was looking at a bonfire, said Hurtt.

Investigators say it's hard to believe no one was hurt.

    The aftermath of the fire

They had to act really fast to get out of there, 12 people, said Greg Haggit.

Sightings put Frein on the move - October 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Blood found on porches of two houses in the area of the Pocono Mountains where state police have been searching for more than a month for alleged cop killer Eric Frein does not belong to the suspect, state police said Monday.

State police have concentrated most of the search on the Canadensis and Cresco areas of Barrett Township in Monroe County since identifying Frein as a suspect in the Sept. 12 of ambush on the state police barracks in Blooming Grove, Pike County.

A possible sighting of him on Saturday by a woman near the high school Frein had attended, prompted state police to move the search area slightly south to the Swiftwater area of Paradise and Pocono townships.

State police believe Frein, who had lived with his parents in Cresco, may be relying on unoccupied or vacant cabins and vacation homes for food and shelter.

On Thursday, state police were contacted by two home owners in Cresco who believed they had found blood on their porches possibly belonging to Frein.

One house had blood droplets on the deck of a covered porch, and the other house had a smear on the inside of a rear door of an enclosed porch, state police said.

On Monday, state police said those blood samples did not match Frein.

Lab results showed the droplets of blood were human, but the DNA did not match Eric Frein. The stain collected on the door turned out not to be blood, state police said.

Residents in the Poconos have been on high alert since state police launched the search for Frein after identifying him as a suspect on Sept. 16 because his SUV was found abandoned about a mile north of the Blooming Grove state police barracks.

Frein is suspected of killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson, 38, of Dunmore, and wounding Trooper Alex Douglass, 31, of Olyphant, as they were changing shifts. Douglass is recovering at a rehabilitation facility after being released from a Scranton hospital last week.

Teal Pumpkin Project Catching On - October 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

De Pere - When you take your kids trick or treating on Halloween, you might notice teal pumpkins popping up on porches.

It's an effort to make the tradition safer for kids with food allergies.

Maddie Gerondale, 10, of De Pere doesn't exactly look forward to Halloween.

"Because I don't really ever get to have any candy and everyone else does," she explained.

"She's allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish, eggs, sunflower, sesame, coconut and pineapple," added her mother, Nicole Slavin.

    But this yearis different.

"I like Mine Craft it's really fun. I like my favorite character in the game so I decided to dress up as one," Gerondale said.

Her new found excitement is thanks to a national campaign, which the organization Food Allergy Research and Education is encouraging people to participate in, to make trick or treating safer and more enjoyable for kids with food allergies.

This is how the Teal Pumpkin Project works. You can paint a pumpkin teal, which is the designated color for food allergy awareness or put a flieron your door which lets people know you're handing out non-food items which are safe for kids with food allergies.

"We're going to get glow sticks or glow bracelets. The dollar store is a great place or any other place where you can get large amounts like you would for a birthday party. We'll probably do pencils. Stickers are great," said Slavin.

Blood found on porches NOT from suspected killer Eric Frein; latest on manhunt - October 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Its been over a month police say Eric Frein opened fire on two Pennsylvania State Troopers, killing Cpl Bryon Dickson and injuring Trooper Alex Douglass. Since that deadly ambush, an intense manhunt for Frein has been underway in the Poconos.

DNA results released Monday determined that blood found on two different porches in Barrett Township on Thursday isNOT from Eric Frein.

Meanwhile, on Monday a lot of police activity was reported in new search areas. Officers in camouflage, State Police and helicopters have been reported near the Swiftwater Post Office. Extra security has also been in place around nearby Pocono Mountain East High School in Monroe County.

Reporter Earlier todayState Troopers say a woman reported seeing a man near Pocono Mountain East High School on Friday night.

He was only about 20 feet away from her and was carrying a rifle with his face covered in mud.

Officials say there is a good chance that man was in fact Frein; not only was he spotted by his former high school but he also briefly worked nearby so hes familiar with that area.
