Legoland has plenty of your standard amusement park fare with some worthwhile and highly edible standouts. Its on a much smaller scale than megaparks like Disney, and the nicer restaurants are located inside the hotel and beach resort. But inside the park, the food is completely on theme.
In The Lego Movie, Lord Business masterminds Taco Tuesday, an event when he will attack Bricksburg with the Kragle, putting an end to everyone messing with his stuff. In the Lego Movie World, one of its dining options has turned a once a week event into a daily occurrence with Taco Everyday. Chicken, brisket, and crab are filling options, with guacamole, cilantro or chipotle vegetable slaw and pickled onions. You can also get a pair of specials: Bennys Out of This World Taco and Unikittys Cuckoo Taco, served in blue and pink soft tortillas, respectively, with Double Decker Sofa-Pilla bites for dessert.
In Lego Kingdoms, the Dragons Den, as youd expect, serves medieval-inspired fare. Turkey legs, bratwurst, honey-battered corn dogs, and beer from Winter Havens first and only craft brewery. Grove Roots Brewing Co. has ownership of multiple taps, so there are a few choices, including a rotating selection of seasonal and special-release brews.
Another thing to keep an eye out for: apple fries. Yes, theyre a thing at Legoland, and theyre just what they sound like: Granny Smith apple sticks fried, dusted with cinnamon and sugar and served with whipped cream or a la mode. They make a great snack stop that isnt totally unhealthy and is unique to Legoland.
At the Kickn Chicken Co., choose from a menu of salads, wraps, or tenders (including vegetarian-friendly chicken), but the best bets are the chicken and waffles or the chicken BLT. This spot is seasonal only, and the closest options are Firehouse Ice Cream for floats, shakes, and ice cream or the Panini Grill (which has great sides like the corn salad, potato salad or kale salad, but skip the panini).
Within the Legloand Hotel, there are two dining options: Bricks Family Restaurant, a buffet-style restaurant that serves breakfast (included in your stay) and dinner; and the Skyline Lounge, serving an a la carte lunch and dinner menu. And the Beach Retreat part of the park features Sandys Lighthouse Restaurant, with a breakfast buffet thats included in your stay and a la carte lunch and dinner menus with apps (nachos, eggrolls, wings), salads, sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas.
One super-cool thing about Legoland dining is that if a visitor has any food allergies or special dietary needs they don't have to miss out: a quick email to the Legoland chefs will be responded to with a list of restaurants and dishes that best suit their needs, or theyll even offer to prepare a special meal to be served at a specific restaurant at a specific time.

The list of skills a custom homebuilder needs to be successful is extraordinarily long. The ability to effectively collaborate with architects and property owners is certainly a big one, but so too is an encyclopedic knowledge of building materials, construction techniques, and the intricacies of zoning and permitting.
But one quality that is easy to overlook is empathy with clients. Greg Reynolds, the owner of Reynolds Custom Homes, is convinced that hes better at what he does because he goes through the process of designing and building the home his family lives in every few years. I think it makes you a better builder because you have gone through the process and understand there are limitless choices of materials and fixtures and tiles, he says. There are so many options that it can be overwhelming.
Reynolds most recent experience designing and building a home is in West Lake Hills, where lots are both difficult to find and generally on sloping terrain. So, Reynolds and his family were particularly happy to find a 1-acre flat lot to build on. To help with the design, Reynolds turned to James LaRue of LaRue Architects and Julie Evans of JEI Design, the team he has worked with on two previous homes hes lived in. We have a familiarity and understand each other, he says. Its a good collaborative effort.
As is the case with all of his clients, LaRue started the process by taking Reynolds on a walk of the site, part of a four-lot subdivision, in order to develop an overall concept for the design. The lot is distinguished by the presence of oak and cedar trees, which city regulations said needed to be preserved.
To accomplish that, LaRue and Reynolds agreed to put the design emphasis on facilitating outdoor living. The result is a two-story home built largely around a pool and cabana. Its unusual to say youre going to focus a house on the cabana, so it has to be a beautiful part of the home, LaRue says. In this case, it provides the home a visual focus and a gathering space to draw people outside of the house.
Given the importance of the pool and cabana, its no surprise that LaRue and Reynolds agreed that both had to be special. The cabana has a slatted wood screen in the back to give it a spa-like experience, while ensuring that a cooling breeze and natural light can circulate easily while also providing privacy. The lines between inside and outside space are also blurred within the cabana, with a limestone fireplace, television, and a dining area located just a few feet from the pool.
Ensuring a connection between those splashing in the water on a hot day and those seated inside the shaded cabana was also a design objective. The solution: setting the cabana three steps below the surface of the pool. When Im in the pool and youre in the cabana, we are more eye-level, LaRue says. If you set it level with the pool, then I lose connection to people in that space.
The aspiration to turn the pool and cabana into the homes focal point has very much become a reality for the Reynolds family. Its our favorite spot, and we orient around it year-round, the builder says. Even in the winter, we put a wood-burning fire out there and watch football. Its a destination.
By no means is the outdoor space the sum total of this five-bedroom, two-story home. But in thinking about how to design indoor spaces, Reynolds and LaRue still had the outdoors in mind. One thing we try to do is get a lot of natural light in the house, so theres a ton of glass in the house, Reynolds says.
Indeed, the faade and the back of the home are largely made up of glass. This was achievable without transforming the home into a hothouse because it has a north-south orientation. Even the decision to detach the cabana from the main home was largely driven by natural light considerations. When you dont have a deep porch on the house, it allows for more natural light on the house, Reynolds says.
Maximizing family connections was also part of the thinking in designing the breakfast room and kitchen. Instead of creating a traditional alcove with a table as a breakfast spot, LaRue wanted to make the area part of a larger family living space. That way the kids can play a game or watch TV, and it gets you in a nice table setting so that youre not always eating at the kitchen island, he says.
Its a reality of life as a homebuilder that even the houses you design and construct to live in wont be yours for all that long. In other words, you always have to have an eye on features that will attract future buyers. Which is why Reynolds was insistent on creating a spacious master bathroom and closet. We used to see big master bedrooms, he says. Not anymore. We put the space in the bathrooms and closets.
The result here is what LaRue calls the worlds coolest powder room, which is enhanced by Julie Evans choice of black and white, zebra-like wallpaper.
Another nod to the possible needs of a future owner is the versatility of the house, which is suitable either for a family or a retired couple. For example, the upstairs of the house has three full bedroom suites. We built it for a family, but you could live in it as an empty nester, where you live on one story and have the other for friends and family when they come in town, Reynolds says.
Typically, the builder says his family will stay in a home for two to three years before moving on. While moving so frequently certainly has its challenges, he says its also a good reminder about why he got into the business in the first place. This is fun for me, he says. Its cool to take a raw piece of dirt and build something amazing on it. That is the best part of the building business; you get satisfaction at the end.
But when it comes to actually moving away from this particular home, Reynolds may have some explaining to do to his youngest son, who has thoroughly embraced the outdoor living that the pool affords. He has lived in plenty of houses, Reynolds says. He has told us he would be happy to stay here.

Developers have filed plans to build a 916-unit multi-family development featuring amenities such as mini golf and a movie theater on an expansive site near of I-94 in Kenosha.
Conceptual plans for the development, called Strawberry Fields Apartments, were filed by West Allis-based Cardinal Capital Management Inc. along with project partner Kenosha-based Land Quest. The project was also crafted with input from Al Namath.
The plans call for six 94-unit buildings and 22 16-unit buildings on a 77-acre site north of Highway 50 and east of 72nd Street and 142nd Avenue. The site lies west of the interstate and just east of the Strawberry Creek golf course.
Renderings also depict a clubhouse/office building with cabanas and an outdoor pool.
The units would be high end and market-rate, according to the developers. The proposed development site is mostly vacant, and is partially used for farming.
Proposed amenities could include a dog park, beach, mini golf, volleyball courts, pool, spa, workout facilities, tennis courts, a playground, walking and running paths, bike paths, a community garden, sports lounge, golf simulator, mini bowling alley, movie theater, game room and work space, among potentially more unnamed possibilities.
The conceptual plans will be reviewed by Kenoshas Plan Commission during a public hearing on Thursday, Dec. 5. The commission will only discuss the plans and wont be taking a vote.
Great effort and research have been expended to develop the building size, design, layout, and amenities to attract high end clientele to this location, the development team writes in a letter to the city. Given the proximity to 1-94, it is our belief based on our research that we will pull talented workforce from Milwaukee and Chicago.
The team further states Strawberry Fields will be a one of a kind development for Kenosha.
Representatives of Cardinal and Land Quest did not immediately return calls seeking further comment.
According to the letter, Cardinal is responsible for about 10,000 housing units across the U.S., and Land Quest has developed more than 1,000 units of housing in Kenosha and is managing more than 400 units locally.
If detailed plans were to move forward, the property would need to be rezoned, according to a city staff report. Currently, the site is largely zoned for single-family homes and duplexes, with the land nearest the highway zoned for multiple uses and a small portion on the northern end for multi-family residential.
The city and developers would also need to sign a developers agreement related to all public improvements on the project. For instance, the development team is proposing the creation of two public roads to provide access into and out of the site.
Staffers also noted in the report a number of concerns they had with the proposal as-is. They suggest more than two building types for the site and that the developers use higher-quality building materials than what has been presented so far.

Of course, there's more to Lil Wayne's mansion that just the bedrooms and bathrooms although they're impressive enough. Anyone in the home will also be able to check out what Architectural Digest describes as "a grand mahogany-clad entryway and a great room with windows that extend from the floor up to the 22-foot ceilings."
They also note that there's an "entire wall of sliders [that] opens onto the backyard which, in addition to the sizeable pool, outdoor dining spaces, and cabana, has direct access to the clear blue water just off the property." And because the home takes advantage of its idyllic location, the large living room also features the same kind of glass sliders that, in this case, "open onto a wide deck with views of the water."
There are also two kitchens yes, two! The first is a full-sized kitchen with light wood cabinetry and a dining table that's big enough to seat each guest that comes over for a meal. The second is a pristine galley kitchen with a range and oven, large sink, and plenty of counter space as well as cupboards which can be accessed from the home's outdoor space.
And, of course, no celebrity mansion would be complete without an elevator and private movie theater. In this case, Lil Wayne can enjoy a screening room that features suede wall coverings, which you'd surely expect from an abode that cost $17 million.
