A plumber has died and a family taken to hospital from a block of flats which was evacuated because of chemical fumes.

The man was believed to have suffered an electric shock and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is understood to have been unblocking a sink using a drain cleaning fluid when the tragedy happened on the fourth floor of the flat on New Year's Day.

Residents said a small 'explosion' took place when the plumber - who has not been named - poured the fluid down a drain.

Ronald G. McBee Sr., master plumber - January 2, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Ronald Gary "Chief" McBee Sr., who founded a plumbing business, died of cancer Dec. 28 at his Fallston home. He was 67.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Highlandtown, he was the son of Ralph C. "Mac" McBee, a shipyard worker, and Isabelle Nellie Barnes McBee, a homemaker. A 1965 graduate of Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, he worked in the maintenance shop at Armco Steel and at General Motors on Broening Highway. He became a master plumber in 1984 and then started a business, Best Mechanical Inc., out of his Hamilton home.

His son, Ronald Gary McBee Jr. of Forest Hill, joined him in the business in 1987 and expanded it to include heating, ventilation and air-conditioning work.

Mr. McBee's son said his father worked on numerous projects, including the restoration of the Hippodrome Theatre on Eutaw Street. Mr. McBee was part of a nine-year renovation project at the U.S. Naval Academy, doing work on Bancroft and Michaelson halls. He also did projects at the Keswick Multi-Care Center in North Baltimore.

"My dad knew how to get the best out of each individual," said his son. "Dad was there every day. He was hands-on with his workers in the field. He was tough but was caring at heart."

Mr. McBee served as a director of the Maryland Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors Assocation. He followed NASCAR and enjoyed boating, fishing and classic cars.

He attended Mountain Christian Church in Joppa.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 at the McComas Funeral Home, 540 W. Broadway in Bel Air.

In addition to his son, survivors include his wife of 26 years, Theresa Mullin McBee; another son, James McBee of Perry Hall; two daughters, Bethany-Kate McBee and Kelly McCarthy, both of Fallston; two stepsons, Joshua Cecil of Georgetown, Del., and Jonathan Cecil of Baltimore; a sister, Doloris Pinckney of Forest Hill; and nine grandchildren.

Smart Answers To Stupid Interview Questions - December 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The way we interview job applicants is at least fifty years behind the times.

When we call a plumber to come over and get our kids sock out of the tub drain, we say How much do you charge per hour?

We dont ask the plumber If you were a can of soup, what kind of soup would you be?

The plumber would slam the phone down and hang up if we did that. Its insulting to ask people stupid questions like With all the talented candidates, why should we hire you? and Whats your greatest weakness?

Why do we see the insult in those questions when were talking toplumbers, but not when were talking to job-seekers?

All of us are professionals, and all of us are adults. We dont need to be addressed like children.

Most people in corporate and institutional life have been force-fed gallons of toxic lemonade over the years. We believe that the employer is mighty and the poor little job-seeker is an ant. The job-seeker has to grovel and beg for the job. We dont see how ridiculous that is.

The more marketable and confident a job-seeker is, the less likely he or she will be to bow and scrape and turn cartwheels to impress a hiring manager. Why would we ask anyone to do that?

This is a pretty cool demo of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and NFV (Network Function Virtualization) by our SDN Consultant. Ive seen a lot of slideware on Contrail and NFV, but they dont really help understanding very well. Seeing it actually happen makes a world of difference.

    Watch the demo trailer here.

Node and link protection is a mechanism for protecting LSPs from (you guessed it) the failure of nodes and links. It differs from fast re-route in that you have to specify node and link protection on the interfaces of all the downstream routers as well as on the LSP at its source.

My network looks like this at the moment, with an LSP running from R5 to R1 using the shortest path determined by the IGP:

Ive finally had time to do some proper studying for JNCIE, and I noticed something that I may have been getting wrong for a looong time. It is minor, but could have bad consequences in a route-reflection environment.

I have a lab topology set up that looks like this:
