A: Faucet choices can be complicated. But if you keep in mind that there are four basic faucet groups -- and that your faucet should match your sink -- that will make things easier. I usually recommend picking out a sink first, and that narrows your faucet choices. Depending on the type of sink that will fit your project, here are the four basic bathroom faucet groups:

1. Four-inch center-set faucets. These are one-piece compact faucets for sinks with three holes, and measure 4 inches from one outside hole to the other.

2. Eight-inch widespread faucets. The faucet spout and handles are separate components that are mounted on the countertop, or three-hole lavatory sink, where the outside faucet holes measure from 8 to 16 inches apart.

3. Single-handle, single-hole faucets. As the name says, one handle controls both hot and cold settings, and these faucets require only one hole. Use on single-hole lavatory sinks or countertop installations. These faucets are very popular with vessel sinks.

4. Wall-mount faucets. These are any type of bathroom faucet that mounts on the wall behind the sink, and works well with "under-mount"-style sinks.

Final tip: Each faucet group will have many choices, so just "go with the flow" and take your time.

Ramachandra, the absconding plumber whose brutal assault on three elderly sisters resulted in the death of one, was known to the family as he has been doing all minor repair and plumbing work at their house in Jayanagar 4th T Block for the last many years, according to Rekha, the youngest daugther of deceased Chandra Narasimhan.

He had been engaged to carry out minor repairs of the sump, drain, etc, at the 50-year-old house and was at the job since the last 10 days. Having arrived for work as usual on Monday morning, Ramachandra attacked the sisters soon after Dr Chitra, Chandras daughter, left home for work.

Narasimhamurthy, who has been running a provision store opposite the house and is a family friend of the Narasimhans, said Ramachandras elder brother Janakiram, who lived a few blocks away, used to carry out repairs earlier at the sisters house and was known to him.

Ramachandra was working under his brother. However, they separated a couple of years ago following differences between them. Ramachandra, a habitual drinker, replaced Janakiram, who ventured into real estate, at the Narasimhans house.

He said after the incident came to light, he called up Janakiram who was shocked to learn about his brothers brutal act and volunteered to take the police to Ramachandras house in Parappana Agrahara. The police team, however, did not find Ramachandra at home, as he is at large.

Presence of mind

The sharp presence of mind and resilience shown by Munilakshmamma, 88, a retired doctor and spinster, the eldest of the three sisters, has left police deeply impressed.

According to a senior police officer, as soon as he entered their house, the elderly woman called him and wrote Ramachandras name and mobile phone number on a piece of paper.She then asked the officer to track down the offender.

She also told police that Ramachandra had tried to strangle her on the first floor in front of her room. However, she resisted the assault and screamed for help. Minutes later, she fell unconscious, but recovered after sometime. She then rescued her sister, Sharada, who was locked in a room on the first floor. Ramachandra had also tried to strangle her but panicked when she screamed and instead locked her up.

Norfolk, Va. The bribery scandal sent a wave through city hall. Some in the city had known for a year Norfolk plumber Andrew Zoby was under investigation. He and a former Norfolk city plumbing supervisor admit they conspired to give and get bribes, and defraud the city.

That cost taxpayers around $40,000. But in the perhaps 10,000 pages of plumbing bills the city turned over to the FBI, we found something that might be just as costly. Records that show city workers routinely dispatched an on-call private plumber to jobs where there was little or nothing to do. And you paid for it. For example

A Zoby worker was sent to a police detectives mens room. The reason a bad odor. The plumbers found no smells, flushed the toilets, and billed the city $81.

At three community gardens, the staff needed the city water turned back on for spring. Two Zoby workers turned it on at the city connection and billed the city $281. An assistant city manager later emailed that city workers couldve done that job

On a cold February day, two Zoby workers were sent to the Mermaid Fountain at Nauticus to find out why there was no water. It turned out the city had shut off the water for the winter, and wanted it kept off until spring. The bill: $125.

At Hooters, some toilets backed up. Three Zoby workers were sent to fix them, but found another plumber already there. Service call: $68.

At the Fire Training Center, there was a shower that wouldnt turn off. And these are the actual plumbers notes: The shower valve was turned the wrong way. He turned it the right way and billed the city $81.

Last year, while city officials knew Zoby was under federal investigation for bribery, they sent him on so many jobs, both big and small, that plumber hit the contracts $250,000 cap before the end of the year. So city officials added another $100,000 to the contract, and kept giving him work. The work didnt stop until after federal prosecutors charged him with bribery.

NewsChannel 3 asked for someone in charge of the plumbing contract to explain why there were so many calls like these. However, no one in charge of the plumbing would speak to us.
